  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) Ah yes, classic Kenny... Joe Crede is soooo gone before opening day. No kidding, I think we all know the coy KW quotes by now.
  2. Rob Neyers Chat: BJ (Chicago): Rob, can you help me out with something? If the White Sox main goal this offseason was to trade one of their starting pitchers to make room for Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, why would they get Santana back from the Angels, Figgins is understood because they need a leadoff hitter and a left fielder, but why Santana? They'd be in the same position as before...unless of course Kenny Williams has another trade lined up that is?? SportsNation Rob Neyer: Well, there's nothing wrong with having six starters, and in fact the White Sox have been pretty lucky the last two seasons in needing only five. But I wonder why nobody talks about Charlie Haeger?
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=2679907 He mentions the soaring market for our starters as well as the two teams that have been trying to aquire Garcia and Vaz.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) I get it. But no matter who you're rooting for, that line gets old when they say it 39083298329839839 times during the game. You can't deny that. You don't know how sick I am about hearing that Assembly Hall should be named Robert Montgomery Knight Hall every game. Just because Vitale has the brain of a goldfish, doesn't mean the viewers do. I didnt hear the commentary because I was at a bar, but I also hate Dickie V doing that stuff every game. As much as I hate him though, he is very knowledgeable about college hoops and I would say alot of what he probably had to say was true, but he repeated himself 2 million times.
  5. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) Based on the fact the Sox played Cleveland about 19 times and Tampa played them maybe 6 or 9, what is the point of this? He had 21 ab's which is a small sample size anyway, but who cares how many sb's he had when he batted .429 .478 against them, he had 9 hits 5 rbis 3 walks in 21 at bats, that better than PODS anyway.
  6. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) Illinois? Nope. Yes, the Juice was loose that game.
  7. QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) He hasn't played a college game yet that's a stretch. He is exceptional but he's not going to change a game by 20 points. We'll see, but he really is that good of a player. The hype is getting a little out of control, but you have to realize that the points in the paint for UNC would go down, and OSU would be feeding alot of balls to Oden on the offensive end.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) ESPN does not know how to not run s*** into the ground. Please mention Greg Oden every 30 seconds, please. well even on the bench he is probably the best basketball player in the building. With Oden expect 10 less points from UNC and 10 more for OSU, he is THAT good.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I am far from an NFL draft expert, but I would not be surprised at all to see Smith go in the first round. If he doesn't, I think it will be more of a function of a lack of need for QB's that high. Rock, I'm with you in terms of his improvement. I don't recall which one, but recently an announcer compared him more to Drew Brees than to a Vince Young type. I think Smith has proven this year he is more than a scrambler. I can't attest to his "recognition" ability in terms of translating to the speed of the NFL game. I can't get into the technical abilities of QB's. But I do believe he has become a legit NFL QB. I think his stock will improve after OSU wins the National Championship (combines, private workouts, etc). I just don't think you can use stats or wins to prove his worth. I guess time will tell whether he is an NFL starter, a career backup or destined for the CFL. I would say Drew Brees but with a better arm and great legs. His progression in the last two years is unreal.
  10. Good young pitching may be > to good young hitting But Crawford>BMAC every day of the week.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) Dude will you get over it? Who an NFL team drafts is not all about wins/losses and stats. I have no clue what, if any other QB's will go ahead of Smith in the draft other than Quinn, but arguing your point with stats is totally pointless. Troy will have his chance to prove himself after the season in an all-star game, combines and private workouts. No one here is saying Troy Smith is a bad QB. In fact it is quite the opposite. He gets plenty of respect if you can get the Brady Quinn chip off your shoulder. It's blocking your eyesight of reality. And hype has nothing to do with it. If it did, Jay Cutler would have been on no one's 1st round radar last year. I've tried to reason with intangibles like leadership, arm strength, recognition. I have put up stats to show how good he is. I guess its difference of opinion then. I think Quinn will go #1 and much of that is how good he is, and he may be a decent NFL QB, but i still think troy is the better football player. Smith was projected as an early 2nd rounder before the season even started, with his performance and the fastest development I have ever seen a QB go through, he is a lock to be in the first round. There hasnt been a game this year where he wasnt the best player on the field. The proof is in the pudding, and when he finally gets into the league, maybe a few of the people who have filed him into a "mobile qb" mold and havent seen much of him this year will open their eyes.
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Not so sure if he is the best. Maybe one of them... I disagree, I believe he is the best. There is no doubt in my mind he should have won the GG this year in the AL, and watching him in person, he makes everything look very easy. If we deal him, you guys will see what it is like to be spoiled by a GG player at the hot corner.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) I bet you guys wished you could play against them for all 82 games. then we could assure we get the #1 pick next year.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) Yeah but he won the silver slugger award!!!! VAfan, I have already shown you Crede's walk rate is decreasing BIG TIME, so it's silly to expect him to suddenly start walking at an above average rate. Crede amongst qualified third basemen: OBP: 20/22 SLG: 8/22 OPS: 9/22 His K rate has decreased as well, so what does that mean? Regardless of all the offensive stats you can put up, he is the best defensive 3B in the MLB, and with some power and a good avg, it makes him valuable.
  15. QUOTE(T R U @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Exactly, and what did Weis bring? An NFL style offense. Quinns two years under a former NFL coordinator in a pro style offense has produced amazing numbers for him. Quinn has the size and all the tools to be a Franchise NFL quarterback.. Im not trying to say that Troy Smith isnt a good QB, but I dont see him going in round 1. I just see guys like Tyler Palko, Jamarcus Russel (If he comes out), Brian Brohm (Same), and possibly even Kevin Kolb going before him.. Also you have to look at the draft and what teams are picking where by the end of the year.. Smith wont go in round one that I am sure of Tyler Palko 2871 yards 25 td 9 int 163.25 RAT Jamarcus Russell 2797 yards 26 td 7 int 168.10 RAT Brian Brohm 2397 yards 12 td 4 int 154.56 RAT Kevin Kolb 3165 yards 25 td 3 int 162.81 RAT Troy Smith 2507 yards 30 td 5 int 167.87 RAT So because the guys you listed are 1 to a couple of inches taller than Troy, they will go before him? Oh and OSU runs a pro style offense and defense, and training camp.
  16. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) It would be for Crede, Garcia and McCarthy it that scenario. Shields isnt worth BMAC, so not it wouldnt.
  17. I wanted an answer to a particular question, but it probably would be helpful for others on the board to share home repair tips etc. My question is how do I keep my windows particularly the outside of the windows, cleaner longer? It is seriously a pain to keep washing the exterior of my windows, because they seem to get dirty extremely quickly. Anyone have a tip to help me out?
  18. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) There is no way in a trillion years that the Sox get Santana, Figgins and Shields for Crede and Garcia. But it would be nice.... Plus there is no way in hell that Figgins plays 3B and Crawford plays CF. Figgins would play CF and Crawford LF
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) As much as I don't want Pods back, I will give the guy some dap for the walk-off he hit against the Astros in Game 2. One of the best moments ever in Sox history. Still wasnt as loud as Konerko's grand slam though.
  20. If the team of 2006 played the season 10 times, would last season's results have been the worst that can happen? The pitching underperformed, the bullpen got shot to hell, and the hitting was sporatic. If we make minimal changes including a new LF and trading one of our starters for spects of pen help, I would feel pretty good about this team going into next year.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) If Gload was a starter for the Sox next year, you would have alot of unhappy White Sox fans by July, just a hunch. Well, there are alot of stories in sports of players who finally get their chance and excel after being labeled a supersub and whatnot. Maybe Gload is one of those guys?
  22. Its funny, all the players on the sox said last year that Gload was their best htiter, even Dye used hit bat in the HR derby, and I beleive a couple of other players used it during games to get some of his mojo, yet we never see the guy get any meaningful time.
  23. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) The 'hype machine' has been around because he's shown the tools for 3+ years now, unlike Smith who has suddenly become a 'good' quarterback for one season. And don't use the 'great' ND as an argument. Smith gets as much hype for playing at OSU as Quinn does playing for ND. Man, I had a big response typed up until Zoom stole basically everything I was going to say. To add to his post, Smith also is 10-1 vs top ten ranked opponents, now I know he didnt play all of those THIS year did he? And as much as you want to say OSU has as much hype as ND, I dont believe OSU has its own TV station that constantly promotes the team, not to mention any and all hype surround OSU came with the actual success of the team including recent National Titles and constant success in college football in recent years. They both put up similar numbers and have great arm strength recognition etc. I guess the height is what will knock Smith out of the first round entirely, although the mock drafts that predicted his draft position were out before he put up the numbers he did this year, but whatever.
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) From about a week ago. I suppose something could happen.. We could afford it if we ditched Garcia and Possibly Vaz.

    Airlines

QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Interesting, that's they kind of information I was looking for. Thank you. DirecTV and XM on flight is a nice convenience. I'll definately scope out Frontier, AirTran and Jet Blue for future travel. Thanks! Frontier is basically good to go to Denver, they are trying to expand, but are still a small airline. PM me if you ever have any other questions, I travel quite a bit and stay in alot of hotels, rent alot of cars and fly into alot of airports and I have established a load of opinions on the issues.
