  1. QUOTE(T R U @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Quinn is gonna go #1 to Detroit Rock, there is no way that Troy Smith is taken in the first round and I will gladly take your season tickets when it happens I know Quinn will go #1, because the hype machine has been moving on him for almost two years now. Even though he has shown no real ability to lead a team to success, the physical aspects of him as a player will continue to draw praise, ESPECIALLY playing at the "great" Notre Dame. Troy Smith isn't even going in the first round huh? I want to know where you people are getting this. Does everyone think he is an Eric Crouch rerun or something?
  2. Scheyer looked better than I thought he would as a Frosh.

  4. QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) Torii Hunter vs. Brian Anderson In 1999 in Torii's rookie season he strugled alot, not nearly as much as Anderson, but no less he struggled, he didn't hit 25+ till age 27. I'm expecting the same out of Brian, now if thats going to be in a white sox uniform is another question. Hunter also has spent all of his career at the Metrodome(#19 in park factor). Brian will hopefully spend most of his career in Chicago(#9 in park factor). Are you saying that Brian Anderson will follow in Tori Hunter's footsteps? that is quite a stretch IMO. I can see Brian breaking 20, but I doubt he will ever hit 30 hr's in more than one season.
  5. QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) Anderson and Fields both have the potential to hit 30HRs. I dont know about Anderson.
  6. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Also, if hypothetically rumors do come true, who would be the better CF Figgins or Crawford and who would lead off? In that situation I would have Figgy lead off, Craw-daddy bat #2 and have both of them stealing every base they could see.
  7. For God Sakes do not compare the wins for the pitcher when talking about who is better, thanks
  8. Something that usually isnt mentioned on here is that Gload actually has pretty decent speed. Besides hitting .300 or so and getting on base, he could actually run a little and stretch out some doubles.
  9. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) this might have been mentioned in the post somewhere, but I did not see it. What is Figgins defense like, at all the various positions? Could he play center? He is pretty brutal at 3B, good at 2B, decent in the OF with an average arm.
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) With the quiet on the Vazquez front and the declining of Glavine's option...I'd say that the Mets won. pretty good guess.
  11. Cubs fans also think that a package of Murton+Prospects would net them Manny.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Rock you kid and all, but I was in a line for Black Friday last week and some dolt in a cubs hat was giving me a 2 hour diatribe on how this is their year due to Soriano alone. I had to control myself not to choke him out. schmidt would help them a ton, but they still have some holes to fill. If they would like to go out and try to buy a team this year, more power to them. As we have seen in the last year, it doesnt matter what your team looks like on paper.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) And of course Moiph took all off 30 seconds to spin this into cub talk. LOL "Reports are saying that the White Sox are in talks with the Angels for some young pitching.....Speaking of pitching, the cubs reportedly will land Jason Schmidt!!! The cubs quest for a ring is almost complete"
  14. Wow. Who would have thought that a #5 or middle reliever would cost that much? I hope it was the cubs.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Are people seriously convinced that he'll manage to stay healthy for the next 3 years? He may not, but one of two of those years he will give you 200 innings almost 200 k's and an ERA sub 4
  16. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) It bothers me that Santana's name comes up so often...It seems they are down on him for some reason or another. Or other teams are extremely interested in him?
  17. I posted this in the MLB thread, but im sure it deserves its own. Like I said before, he should make them a favorite to win their division. a 1-2 of Zambrano and Schmidt is pretty formadable, with a healthy Prior, they could dominate.
  18. Santana would be locked up a minimum for the next several years. I dont know if people realize how young he really is. Not to mention he probably would have the 2nd best stuff out of anyone in our rotation. He is sure to improve. With BMAC and Santana you have 2 good top of the rotation guys sewn up for the next several years at a minimum price. That my friends is how great teams maintain their greatness. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) SI.com is now reporting Cubs offered Schmidt 3/45, so he may focus on that for now Yeah, I posted that in the MLB forum earlier.
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) theres almost no doubt in my mind that if this trade goes through...theres another deal on the horizon...maybe its buerhle +broadway for arod or mccarthy for crawford....but if this deal happens we still have 6 starting pitchers, and if deal buerhle, we have 5 starters all locked up for 2-3 years that brings up and interesting point. Who would we rather deal for Crawford if TB would take either, BMAC or Santana?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Does this have something to do with the Buehrle for Crawford rumor? Any word on who we are talking to Tampa about? It couldnt be Mark, he is due for a pay raise and they cant afford it. It has to be Santana if we can get that done. If we turn Garcia and Crede into Crawford and a spect from LAA, I would feel pretty good about it.
  21. The cubs have reportedly offered Jason Schmidt a 3 year 44 million dollar contract. IMO if the sign Schmidt, they are the favorites in that division. Schmidt shoudl bring 200 innings, almost 200 k's and a sub 4 ERA to the North Side.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Not sure how you can say that with a straight face. The Bears have the best and one of the 5 best LB's in the game in Urlacher and Briggs obviously, but Hillenmeyer is a pile of crap, and the front 4 has been average at best since teams finally learned to double team Tommie Harris. Average at best? You are talking about 2 top tier DE's, one of the top DT's in the game and a rookie on the bench who has 8+ sacks. If average at best means being the #1 defense in the league, then yeah, they are average. I dont know how you can debate any of this without your tongue shoved firmly in your cheek.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) That's because Colombo had a bad back. Didn't play in the league at all last season, and has come back rejunvenated and shown why he was a 1st round pick in the 1st place. If you saw the play of Rob Pettiti last season compared to Colombo, it's certainly an upgrade. On the Bears offense, they have been having success, but when it comes to the playoffs they'll be coming up against top notch D's, and I don't know if they can produce the same. You saw against the Panthers last season, the D can be exploited as well with the right matchups e.g if Tillman was matched up on Terry Glenn and Vasher on Owens. Actually Colombo has a jello knee, you will find that out. Either way he couldnt even make it as a backup on the Bears. The Bears have the top D in the game, get over it. Anyone saying the Dallas front 7 is better than the Bears is drinking too much Koolaid.

    Airlines

QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) What benefits do the larger carriers offer that entice consumers to pay more for their service? I fly 50 percent of the time with my job. I usually fly United because of the benefit of red carpet club, assigned seats and economy plus seating. Economy plus only costs you like 40 extra bucks and you get 6 in of extra legroom. Assigned seats are a must for me as I like to have extra legroom for my long trips and I cannot sit in the window seat due to my fear of flying. Also I have bad knees from sports and I need to stretch and crack my knees every so often. The planes used by United also seem to be newer and of higher quality. The only downside is that getting to Ohare is a pain. Also I like the frequent flyer programs of United and AA because I can use my points for other things like my Red Carpet Club membership. When i fly short distances for work I sometimes take Southwest, based on the fact that they fly out of Midway which is much easier to get to for me. I REALLY hate the waiting in line thing though. There is always someone who gets there 6 hours before the flight and camps out in the line. I hate that you have to stand in line and wait for an hour just to get an aisle seat. People who are taller and do not like to fly like myself need to sit in an aisle seat. Also on some recent trips, I have found that many people are not trying to adopt the "movie theater" rule where they put coats on all the seats by them to either save the seats, or make nobody else sit near them. The one positive of SWA is that they give you free snacks vs the other airlines that make you pay.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:54 AM) I know I probably overvalue Crede, but a good 3B is hard to find. After Ventura left as FA, the Sox had this huge void at third until Crede came into his own. Hell, the Mets and Cubs went decades looking for a decent 3B. its hard to overvalue a gold glove 3B who can hit for power and avg. Anyone who says he is a notch below GG caliber is just trying to ease their mind and ready it if he gets dealt. He is one of the elite 3B in the game today, and it will hurt our team losing him no matter what.
