  1. Young would make this lineup very very dangerous. He is a clutch hitter, and brings a high avg singles hitter into a lineup of power guys.
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Look at the numbers, 2005 was the off year. 140 points is a HUGE dip. I should drop the "s" word like a lot of baseball fans are doing these days when a guy loses production. I already said Young is better than our current situation, but my point is it probably isn't going to worth paying the price to get this guy. Doubt it. If the price is minor leaguers, then it is worth it. The guy is a stud offensively, and brings the mentality of hitting singles that this lineup needs to be more diverse.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) ...and the 140 point dip in OPS this year? Oh god, not a slightly off year!!!!!!!!! Give it up, the guy is good, better than anyone in our middle IF right now. And better than our lead off hitter.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) Young is not that good defensively at SS and is better suited for second. Road splits: 2006: .285/.329/.415 .743 OPS 2005: .330/.384/.500 .884 OPS 2004: .280/.320/.460 .779 OPS 2003: .262/.291/.367 .658 OPS 2002: .245/.287/.359 .646 OPS 2001: .227/.263/.345 .609 OPS I'll pass. Thanks for showing his natural progression in the major leagues from being a back up type player to a great hitter. I love seeing stats that solidify that the player has pretty consistent improvement.
  5. Cle only wants to knock us out of the playoffs, not Min.
  6. Gload has the capability to be Sean Casey with more speed. He wont get that chance however.
  7. He is a great guy, and was a great coach at my alma.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) from KFFL, via Yahoo news and notes If he wants to pitch, fine with me, he will have to retire at the end of the year if he does. The twins shouldnt ruin arms just to make the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE(Pete7784 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Why hasn't anybody given any thought to Gload in left field next season? Everyone wants pods gone, great, he should be gone. But all I keep hearing about is Ryan Sweeney and Carl Crawford pipe dreams. Is there really any doubt that Gload is the 5th best hitter in the organization right now? Take the big 4 guys and he's the best of the rest. Look at his numbers in '04 when he got a chance to play. Look at his numbers now. Anybody really think he wouldnt hit at least .310 with 20 homers? Sure, you'll say that he can't play D in left, well neither can pods, who we won a title with out there, and i have no reason to believe that he wouldnt be average. If we can get a leadoff in center or at short, then i'm sold on gload. maybe Sweeney will be a hitter someday, but right now hes not. no way he gives us a better chance to win playing every day than Gload. Ross, is that you?
  10. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 07:01 AM) Thornton also said he gained 5 mph of velocity on his fastball post-surgery - can you imagine if Liriano gains 5 mph on HIS? When did he say that? In college he was throwing gas, he actually told a kid he could kill him with his fastball if he wanted.
  11. By all accounts, we should have swept them, lets not make that mistake in Oakland.
  12. By all accounts we should have swept this series. Lets keep it up going into Oakland.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Um...I was in this thread earlier today. I'm at work, and have extremely limited internet access. If there's anyone that should never be accused of only posting when the Sox are either winning/losing, it should be me. Im just glad Mark got "it" back last night, and gave "it" to Freddy for today.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Owens is faster and has a much weaker arm, he's also not hispanic. And apparently is related to Janero Pargo
  15. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Congrats on the 9k post, only a 1000 away from 10k! and the highest form of loserism
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) You mean in 2004, where he had enough power to hit it out to right center? I know Cintron's defense isn't great, but he needs to be playing at least once every series at SS. Uribe is worthless against a lefty with a good change-up. Yup, he was a gap to gap type of guy. 66 99 70 ratings
  17. Kendry Morales pops out to third baseman Joe Crede.
