QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) he hits them for a decent enough average, but brings nothing else to the table against them. Apparently thats 50 percent better than the rest of our lineup. The guy looked good on the bases as well as the field. He is for real IMO.

The Tigers are giving this race away but no takers.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Fixed that for you. No need. The indians will knock them out of the race. -
QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) didnt that just get released...how could you have it 2 weeks ago EBAY, and its sweet. The guy even made his own menu for it. Pretty good job for 22 dollars.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) Papi has been cleared to return that doesnt bode well for us.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) I hope Sweeney gets a hit tonight, or he will be labeled a bust at 21. Sweeney is my favorite prospect. He probably has the best looking swing that I have seen on a prospect. A prototypical line drive swing. I hope the kid gets off to a quick start, and maybe we can have Pods watch a few games more from the bench. Ryan has shown that he can flourish against MLB pitcher, albeit in spring training. I think he starts hot.

Mark my words. The Indians are going to knock the sox right out of the playoffs, just like we did to them last year. -
Lost, I finished the 2nd season on DVD over 2 weeks ago and I am hurting for the 3rd season.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Any word on how he has preformed in Charlotte? Has he been able to hit 90 yet, or go multiple innings with any success? A solid month from a guy like Dustin could be HUGE for the playoff run with guys like Cotts, Riske, and Brandon looking a little rough right now. The only thing that would be huge is the moon shots that he gives up in clutch situations.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Seems like you're giving Bobby a free pass from yesterday then. If he doesn't blow the save then Bmac doesn't even pitch. We are lucky he has only blown that little amount of saves this year. He in the MLB leader for a reason.
-
BMAC is better than Freddy and Javy. Putting him in the rotation would improve the team immensely.
-
Even with this year's dissapointment looming, I feel pretty good about the rotation of Count, MB, Garland, BMAC, plus whoever we get our hands on.

The last dance for Chief Illiniwek?
RockRaines replied to Goldmember's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:16 AM) it has nothing to do with the alumni silly.bruce weber actually brings chief illinwek along on recruiting visits. Why? If you score alot of points, this fake indian chief will do a gay little dance for you. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) I wonder if the descendents of the Illini tribes are offended by the name Illinois? Or perhaps by the town of Peoria? Or Kaskaskia? Or Cahokia? Maybe we should just change the name of all of those towns to something along the lines of Smith and Jones? I like it, this could be the new address: John Doe 123 Anywhere St. Chicago, Jones 60601 Yes, I do understand that some people can be insulted by the Chief, but there's a point where it's gone too far. The Chief is treated with the utmost respect. No baby-kissing. No hawking for the camera. No fights with other symbols. NO THROWING OF BURNING SPEARS INTO THE GROUND. No goofy smile. Not called Redskins. Actually, the biggest problem I have is that the NCAA is taking matters into it's own hands. This is an organization that is supposed to keep the playing fields even between colleges under its mantle. Not judge them on what they are called or what traditions they have. If someone wants to sue the university in a court of law, that's fine and I'll take that decision. But, the NCAA is not the authority on these matters. Yes that makes sense. Naming a city after the area where the tribe lived is very much the same as a college student dressing up in "ceremonial" garb doing a fake gymnastics-based routine at halftime of a game. Why dont we just have all the cheeleaders take communion every time the team scores, would that be ok with you? -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Not to mention facing a lefty. Yeah, all lefties cant hit other Lefties.
-
I wish we could swing something for Freel. I love that guy.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 07:40 AM) I talked to Jimbo about this a little on Tuesday night and I'll see him again today to discuss. It's not final, but it doesn't look good. I know many don't like Jimbo's, but it's been a staple for 20 years of my fan career and if it closes it will be a very sad day. Jim asked a few "friends" downtown, but since it's not a license issue there isn't much to do other than appeal to the building owner. A few folks have suggested mass media pleading and a petition. But like I said, it's a personal thing so I don't know if that would have any impact. Yeah sounds like they are screwed. Such a shame.

GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
RockRaines replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) There must be something scouts picked up on from last season into this one. What could it be?! His velocity is similar. He's pitching similar sequences of fastball fastball fastball. Oh wait, that's it -- he's been attempting to get by on merely a "sneaky", straight fastball and no secondary pitch to speak of. His arm angle is flattening the path of the ball out, which is making his fastball float, and his slider just drift. I think its a small tweak IMO. -
Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
RockRaines replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) wow the Royals could beat the Twins tonight its 2-0 in the top of the 9th. Matt Garza pitched very good, just ran into a couple of bloopers in the 5th inning And a huge drive that hit the centerfield fence on a fly. Was that a blooper? -

Is it obvious to anyone else that his arm angle is all off. He is flattening out his wrist on delivery. Anyone? -
Tiger calls for steroid testing
RockRaines replied to Balta1701's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Nobody is going to say, "this sport is dirty." If he's calling for testing, then he's ::winkwink:: saying it. Well, I actually got that he was saying the opposite. In fact his rep said that he was sure the sport was clean. I think you misunderstood the article. -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Dell... enjoy your call to India Actually they have brought alot of that support back into the states. basically he will have to send that bat back in and get a new one.
-
The best part is, Dye only cares about if the team wins.

Tiger calls for steroid testing
RockRaines replied to Balta1701's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Like I said, if the most prominent golfer of our day suspects steroid use in his sport, I'm going to believe there's a reason behind it. I dont see where he suspected steroid use in golf. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) Dusty to Seattle to replace Hargrove, with Girardi going to the Cubs to replace Dusty. Wonder if Lou Pinella will get a job this off-season, especially if the Phils stick with Charlie Manuel. If I was the cubs management, I would try my hardest to get Gardy from the twins. I think he is one of the most underrated managers in the game.
