  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 30, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) Ya, this could be the worst idea ever. So much for pitching and defense. WE NEED THUMPING!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Idiots.
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Based on what? Radke nevers gives up walks, and the ONE year that Garland didn't give up walks, he was great. So? Based on their similar ERA's Career and at the same age.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Actually the west and south sides of Chicago are being rehabbed. The Pilsen area used to be absolutely horrible and it has a bunch of new condos and townehomes going up. Near UIC used to be awful as well, but is being nicely rehabbed. I have been to Wrigleyville and I am not a big fan. Then again I am not a teenaged or college aged boy looking to get my drink on and puke all Saturday/Sunday morning either. The UIC area is awesome now, University Village and Taylor st are really nice areas, they look like early LP in some ways. Few remember that Wrigleyville and LP not too long ago were some of the worst areas in the city. Now they have hit high market prices on property which has cause overdeveloping and overcrowding. I used to live in LP, I never would again. The population of rats and the crime alone will drive some of the developers to try other areas of the city.
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ May 30, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) We do? I don't recall every saying anything of that sort. Thats cause you are from Jersey.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) One of the best pitchers in Cuban baseball history certainly is more talented than a one-time MLB All-Star with an overwhelmingly mediocre career. You're right. Re-signing that old fogie Count was stupid. Now you are just reaching. The Count was a good player to sign, but at this time last year, you would have had a different opinion of his worth. And raking in a foreign league doesnt mean much really. I would stop using that as proof to his talent, especially when he wasnt as dominant when thrown into MLB compeition at first. Garland is a young pitcher with great upside. For similar pitchers at similar ages, his contract is well worth it. s***, the twins #1 pitcher (Radke) for a long time period was paid about the same for similar production. Basically there are two sides of the fence. The Garland hater side that will turn on anything that is underproducing after the first quarter of the season. And the people who believe in the player's development, and the managements decisions. There really is no way for the two sides to debate.
  6. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 30, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) So basically you can't make a killing on your house, cause the bank can come in and be like...NOPE it's not worth that much. You can, you usually just have to have an appraiser on your side. Also, they usually tend to over value homes, at least in chicago.

    Dog question

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 30, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I've got a male Weimaraner. He is very territorial, even though he is neutered. He is aggressive towards kids too. He makes me nervous sometimes. We take precautions to keep him away if a little one is over. Oh yeah, we make sure that nobody comes in without first corraling the dog. Especially when we are on the lake, if anyone walks into our yard he immediately advances towards the intruder. It makes me nervous sometimes since he could do some damage if he wanted to, but at the same time, he listens when told what not to do.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 30, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) Contreras was Cuba's version of Roger Clemens. Garland has ONE good professional season under his belt. And Steinbrenner is paying us a huge chunk of Contreras' salary. Nobody is compensating us for Jon's bad pitching. Poor comparison. Poor comparison how? Pitching for the cuban national team is the same as the MLB? Since when. Also contreras is 50 years old. QUOTE(Felix @ May 30, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) There's a difference between a 4.42 ERA and 1.38 WHIP (Garland), and a 4.28 ERA and 1.27 WHIP (Vazquez). Vazquez has also had numberous successful seasons (2000-2003), and had more above average seasons than average seasons... unlike Garland. (these numbers aren't including this years stats) Yes, Vaz pitched in the NL. Also they are very similar pitchers through the same age. No comments on the Radke comparison?
  9. Its so funny that Javier Vazquez can do no wrong on this board, and is called the next Ace, yet posts a similar career ERA to Garland and gets paid more money.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ May 30, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Well, last year, A.J. Burnett did have 32 starts (doesn't stop him from being injury prone, but it could have been a reason why the contract was so high), and did look pretty damn good in them (3.44 ERA, 117 ERA+). As for Kerry Wood (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not the best at Cubs lore), he was an amazing pitcher, and wasn't really thought to be injury prone until he blew out his shoulder. By then, his contract was already signed, and he had already had his amazing MLB debut. So we are now evaluating pitchers based on one year? I would take Garland of last year over both of those "above average but injury prone pitchers." Your Garland hate makes you look foolish when trying to defend these other jokers. Garland is ALOT like Brad Radke, especially through this point in his career. Radke has been paid 9, 10.75, 8.75, 8.75, 7.75 million over his last 5 years. Is Garland, at a younger age and with today's ridiculous contracts for SP worth as much? I believe so.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) To be honest I am kind of shocked, because usually the banks will "appraise" the property to make sure the mortgage gets done, even if they should not do so. Most appraisers are in bed with the banks so they kept getting used (ie paid) and they give the banks whatever they are looking for. usually you can sway the appraiser one way or the other, especially if he is teamed with the lender, or the broker.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 30, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) AJ Burnett moved to the 60 day DL from the 15 day DL. ^^^^ Kerry Wood anyone? Hold on, call waiting. Jeff Weaver is on the phone. Hello, Jeff, yes. Oh Livan Hernandez is having a BBQ? Who is invited? Oh Pavano is coming, nice is Loaiza bringing the food? Great. Kevin Brown is bringing the beers, he has alot of time and money on his hands these days.
  13. QUOTE(loltrain @ May 30, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) You're absolutely right, most of us are probably still trying to recover from the barrage of Whitesox "fans" last year informing us of such things as: "DETOILET SUX LOLOLOLOL" "U GUYZ SUX LOLOLOL" "DETROIT IS FULL OF (not a nice word for black people) HAHAHAHAHAHA" "WE WIN AGAIN WHITE SOX FOR WORLD SERIES HAHAH U SUX LOLOLOL" and the like. I hope that we are not quite as annoying to you guys. Well sorry, but Detroit is a horrific place to live, and we like to point that out at every chance. Sorry.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) The downpayment doesn't matter. The bank can't legally be involved in a mortgage where the purchase price is bigger than the appraisal. Correct. And really, you shouldnt be buying a place which is appraised lower than your buying price unless you are planning on flipping or tearing it down.
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 30, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Our payroll is over $20 million higher than last year (~$30 million higher if you don't count the money that we got back in the Contreras and Thome trades). If the Sox go deep into the playoffs again this year, the extra revenue from the postseason (not to mention the people who became season-ticket holders just to get WS tickets) and the associated merchandise sales probably won't be there. The Sox will need to retain their 20,000+ season-ticket-holder base to be able to support a payroll like this over the long run. Did you write off Contreras off at the beginning of last year? The market for good young starting pitching is alot higher than what we are paying Garland. We secured him for lower than market value, what more do you want?
  16. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 30, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) So, it's OK for the Sox to spend $10 and $12 million over the next two years for a guy whose ERA will likely be in the mid/upper 4's and WHIP will be somewhere around 1.3-1.4? Maybe in the Bronx, where the owner has more money than God, but not in Chicago. The Sox can't afford to overpay for mediocre pitching. KW's going to need to unload some salary in the offseason to supplement the 'pen. Right now, it looks like either Garland or Freddy will be the odd man out. What is the magical value for a player of his age and those statistics?
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 29, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) That means keep away from Montero, Farnsworth, and anyone who can't top 92 with a fastball and has more than one pitch he can throw for strikes. That's why Gage and I have been intrigued by Tracey. If you put throwing pitches for strikes so highly on your list, why would you want to bring someone up who has trouble throwing strikes?

    Dog question

QUOTE(knightni @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Male dogs change totally after the "fix". It's day and night. I would agree with that, but I think with my Breed, he is designed to be territorial and agressive.

    Dog question

I have a male Rotty. It seems like he is a little more agressive and territorial than the female versions of his breed. Also size is a consideration as well.
  20. QUOTE(tigerfan @ May 27, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) You know one of the local sports stations here in Detroit was talking about this, and they mentioned something that really makes sense when you think about it. They said that maybe the reason some of these teams are under .500 or close to it right now is in part because of the Tigers beating them as often as they have. We're 21-7 against Central teams right now so that notion probably isn't too far off from the truth. Does it piss you off that you just ran off one of the hottest streaks in baseball and are still only 1.5 games up on us? When we did that last year we were running 6+ games up.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) how can you say you hate the Cubs with a straight face? honestly. PLease please please someone change his group to cubsessed.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) I think Crede is a FA after 2007. Boras is his agent. The prospects of re-signing wouldn't appear to be very good. Its way too early to speculate on what KW would want or could get for Crede because he's not available right now. If its just for some prospects, if Crede continues to play like he's playing now, he would help the Sox attempt at a championship far more than the prospects would, so I would expect KW to hang on to him and worst case scenerio take the draft picks if he signs somewhere else. As long as the Sox were in contention, there would be absolutely no reason to trade him unless the Sox got major league players that filled needs. 2 obvious errors in your post, that have been pointed out before. First Crede is here through 2008, second Crede has made it a point that he wont let Boras dictate his future. Im not too worried about losing Crede at all. And if we do, im sure its because we have better options, not because of Crede himself.
  23. A little light for Barrett, but they took it easy on the other guys. Also, why the hell would AJP get a fine?
  24. QUOTE(SnB @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) I really think that this organization is going to go full force on resigning crede and trading away fields. After how long it took for crede to develop, I don't think it's worth the risk again. Fields will be converted to another position anyway, his fielding will never quite be major league quality from what I hear. Trading him away might be a mistake, as he is raking.
  25. QUOTE(loltrain @ May 25, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Javier Vasquez: Career 4.28 ERA including 4.91 and 4.42 the last two years. Most of that coming in the national league. Jose Contreras: Career ERA also 4.28 Jon Garland: Career 4.42 ERA Scott Podsednik: Career .279 hitter with .730 Career OPS. AJ Pierzynski: Career : .764 OPS Jermaine Dye: Career .272 hitter with a .803 OPS Jim Thome: And you say our lineup is likely to get injured? Pablo Ozuna/Brian Anderson/Juan Uribe/Chris Widger/Rob Mackowiack/Alex Cintron/Ross Gload: We're full of average players? Bullpen: Cotts: Career 4.27 ERA Politte: Career 4.06 ERA Jenks: Basically a rookie, who can count on that? Matt Thornton? Jeff Nelson? Please! And I'm quite certain most of these guys numbers were even crappier before you won the world series last year. Please, don't even bring up strength of schedule before you look at the crap you've been beating, at least we were able to handle the Royals. So finally, let's compare: C: Rodriguez v Pierzynski - Rodriguez 1B: Shelton v Konerko - Konerko DH: Young/Thames v Thome - Thome (by a mile) 2b: Polanco v Iguchi - Even 3B: Inge v Crede - Even SS: Guillen v Uribe - Guillen OF: Monroe v Podsednik - Podsednik (barely) Magglio v Dye - Even Granderson v Anderson - Granderson (by a mile) Rotation: Whitesox Bullpen: Tigers It looks pretty equal on paper to me. I'll give the Sox credit, they're the defending champions and they've beaten us 3 times this year, for that matter I still expect them to end up winning the central, simply because you guys have alot more experienced staring pitching than us but some of the arguments you use to discount the Tigers are just ridiculous. Why didnt you just compare our rings to your rings? Go back to de-toilet, and take your crappy opinion with you.
