QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 24, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) No kidding, that makes no sense. Why the hell would we take another undersized 2 guard? We already have Gordon, who's more athletic and is a better ball-handler. Not to mention that if you think Gordon looks bad defending some of those players, wait till you see Reddick. -
QUOTE(beautox @ May 24, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) wow. Im Sure both the Dodgers and Reds felt the same way about Konerko. Paterson is only 26 and is coming from a crap ass organization. I bet he'll be over .270 after the ASB your on . After this year Patterson's contract is over, some people are suggesting that the O's are going to hold on to him, I Doubt it, they will filp him for pitching. Ill take that bet b****

QUOTE(JimH @ May 24, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) The points that Rock and fathom make are very good and they're all a part of execution. Not only getting down the bunt, but knowing who's pitching, who's playing where, etc. This is one reason why Guillen has always told KW "get me baseball players" instead of superstars. He likes aggressive players with a high baseball IQ and Ozuna fits. I would bet Ozuna recognized the entire situation in two seconds flat, he didn't pigeonhole himself before the at bat. As for Neifi Perez, he didn't execute and it didn't seem like the opposition was surprised by his bunt. Even Ozzie said he plays the game right. There were so many factors that contributed to it being a perfect situation for a bunt. Even Hawk called it. Nefi is a fat, slow, bad situational player. They are two different circumstances.

Meh, I hope we dont take Reddick. -
Anderson>Corey Patterson. A month of decent play doesnt make a player. We have seen what Corey Patterson is capable of, and that is a flailing mess at the plate. Give it to the all star break, and if he is over .270 I will take another look. His defense is pitiful by the way, im surprised anyone is backing that up.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 24, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) There's no comparison between Ozuna's play and Neifi's play. With Ozuna going for the bunt, he was in a situation where if the bunt is successful, the Sox win. Thus, he was showing the balls to actually go for the win. However, even if Neifi was successful with his bunt, the Cubs would have needed another hit to score the runner from 2nd base. Also, Chad Cordero does a pretty good job of fielding his position. Flores, on the other hand, was finishing off on the left side of the mound. Great point. If you watch Flores, it was obvious he was falling off towards the 3b side of the mound. Also Swisher backed up a few feet for whatever reason which basically asked for a bunt in any situation. Pair that with Ozuna's ridiculous speed advantage over Nefi, our grass actually being cut, and the fact the game was tied, leads to a great play.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 24, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) I think the 2006 squad will fall short in the batting average dept. True, but as far as consistency, this squad has to be up there based on the LH bat of Thome. It seemed that our 200-2004 squads got shut down by tough RH pitching quite a bit.

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I like Roy too. But I think it is a bit of a reach with the # 2. Thats all Im sayin' I think we get Alridge -
Ozzie came up with Maggs, Frank, Carlos Lee, and the 1994 lineup Thomas, Ventura, and I believe he said Julio Franco. How does this year's 3,4,5 match up, and which one do you think was best?

Cant we just package Tyson and the #1 pick this year or next and get Garnett? -
QUOTE(3E8 @ May 23, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) "Something had to be done. If I'm out walking down the street and somebody knocks me down and I get back up and he's standing over me or coming back at me again, what are you going to do?" Remember that you arent getting paid to professionally walk down the street.

QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) 13) What is the biggest blunder in White Sox franchise history? 1981: Letting broadcaster Harry Caray get away. Cubs win! Sox lose! \ 1992: Trading Sammy Sosa to Cubs for George Bell. Must anything else be said? Got some more to add?..... The only one that pops into my head at the moment is Kip Wells, Josh Fogg and Lowe for Todd Ritchie :puke These both look like great moves to me.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Some guys just think they know more than anyone else. Esteban Loiaza is a great example. He spent years not listening to coaching, until it got so bad he was only offered minor league deals. He spent about year listening to Coop, and it was the best year of his life. Then he fell right back into his bad habits and is mediocre again. Wood could very well fit into this category, who knows. I am sure when he leaves the Cubs, they will do the crucifiction job on him, much like they did to Sammy and Grace. Oh, there will be a full page ad of his dissapointments.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) The contract Cleveland offered was a joke. It was way less money, and less years because they had no intention of resigning him. The situation mirrored the Sox with Robin Ventura very well. In fact did the GM admit that they wanted to go in another direction? -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) No doubt about that. I just wonder if it is his fault or the pitchers fault. Good question. And heres my thoughts on that. Mark Prior has an undisclosed injury really, and didnt have surgery, and should have been rehabbing this whole time, extended ST, some Rookie Games, and then making his way to the bigs. Where is the guy? He is finally making a start this weekend, what the hell has he been doing this whole time? Kerry Wood has had basically the same issues with his arm, mechanics etc since he made it to the bigs, how long does it take for someone to address these issues. And if he tried to change them, why didnt Wood listen? Does he WANT to have surgery every other year? LaTroy Hawkins John Koronka Sergio Mitre etc etc.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) I figured if he was ever going to figure it out...with his injuries from 2004, combined with the locker room disasters, the Steve Stone mess, and so forth, he'd finally have worked to fix his mechanics when he showed up in 2005. The moment he started struggling in like his 2nd or 3rd game back, he was back to the old Kid K, and back on the operating table. You have to admit that Rothchild has basically done nothing with an extremely talented starting staff. His rehab is poor and his maintenance is even worse.

QUOTE(kevo880 @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Well that's two diff questions. If it were last year i really think he got what he deserved. It's a always been said he wants to go the the west coast. if that were the case why would he stay here for less money? He took it because he's loyal and he knew it was a fat contract. If he were to hit the market after this season a lot would depend on what he does the rest of the season. He could play the whole first half like s*** like he's doing now but if he ends the season, say his last 10-15 starts, with an era in the 3's like last year he probably would get the same type of contract he just received. what do you think about that rock I think that on the FA market he would have fetched upwards of 10 million a year, and if he posted a good year this year, even more. Pitchers with inflated salaries: Randy Wolf 9.125 mill Mike Hampton 14.475 mill Matt Clement 9.825 Kerry Wood 12 mill Eric Milton 9.8 Troy Percival 6 Pettite 16.5 mil ahh, i got tired, but you can see how much pitchers are making. I would say in this last weak FA market Garland would have fetched a little more than what he signed for. And on our roster, he is the lowest paid starting pitcher, assuming that MB will get more money in his extension. Regardless of his contract, I fully expect him to improve, and he really should considering the footsteps of BMAC on his ass.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) It is in no way, shape or form "a bargain" I really don't give a s*** how much Burnett's overpaid ass is making that doesn't mean Garland is fairly paid for his production. If Garland hit the FA market after last year, or even this year, how much do you think he would make?

Rock should be at 1B as one of the best and most knowledgeable base stealers of all time. He had 808 career swipes which is out of control.
-
QUOTE(kevo880 @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) By the way i'm not burrying him, i'm simply saying he's not earning his $9 mill this year which is obvious Do many pitchers earn their salary? Its easily the most overpaid position in sports. Of course comparative to what some pitchers (AJ Burnett, etc) are starting to get these days, his salary is somewhat a bargain.
