  1. Anyone see the cubs get beaten by their own farmhands? The guys they traded for Pierre shut them out tonight.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Pods is no where near the bunter that Pablo is. Oh, I agree, its just he could have, probably woudnt have though.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) What? That's the reason he wasn't a career major leaguer. You know I think Ozuna is easily one of our best hitters, always has a plan at the plate, and is easily our fastest runner. wasnt he rated as the #1 prospect several years back.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) And to think If I were managing it would have been Pods up. Thats why Rock Raines or whoever replaced Ozzie (yet was simply doing what Ozzie told him) is wiser than me. I wanted to replace him too. Of course Pods could have pulled that off too.
  5. Great game to the pen and bottom of the order.
  6. Since when is going 30-20 a .500 team? 27-9 to 57-29
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) I saw that, but didn't want to correct you. It sounded much better with the words...Iowa is the top team in the big 10 You wish, I got to see the spanking the bucks put on the lowly Hawkeyes at the shoe last year.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) My mistake. Either way, Garland will have over 1,200 innings of major-league pitching on his arm at the end of this season, so the "he's still inexperienced" argument doesn't fly. I'll say this: If Jon ends this season with an ERA over 5, I'd rather trade him and go with one more productive year of Freddy. I don't think that paying $10 million/year for the 2002-2004 Garland is a smart thing to do, especially with Buehrle's free agency looming. Hopefully Jon will turn it around and this will become a moot point. Its obvious you dont make business decisions on a daily basis. You have a young pitcher who has 5+ years of quality baseball left in his arm, and still hasnt hit his prime. And you have a pitcher who is just on the downswing of his prime years, and should enjoy one of his last productive years. Which one do you deal? The one at peak worth, or the one whose peak is still in the future?
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Or maybe SS to replace, as John Miller from espn would say -- Oooribe. I say 2B.
  10. As long as the horse can hump, they will keep it alive. Its like 1 million bucks a screw.
  11. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 19, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) I think this list has a little more respectability than the ones I saw after the national title. Link I'm not so sure about OSU at 1, but they'll be a top team. ND comes in at 8. Iowa is the top Big Ten team at 10, Michigan sits at 16, and Penn St. at 21. NIU, Northwestern, and Wisconsin among the other teams getting consideration. If NU gets production out of QB there is little doubt in my mind that they are a top 25 team. The Big Ten in general looks like a tight race with no clear favorite right now. How is Iowa the top Big Ten team, when OSU is also in the big ten?
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Wait a year??? What you mean LaMarcus Aldridge to the Bulls, kid is an absolute stud. I mean wait until next year for possibly the top pick. Oden is already better than Aldridge.
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) This is probably a first, but I agree with both Flash and Jabroni. But not me? QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Most teams are desperate for starting pitching. Garland's 2005 could act as a nice tease for some team. Considering what guys like Pavano and Burnett were paid, really with not much results-wise more than Garland, maybe even less, some team might think Garland for $22 million and 2 years is a good gamble to take. What they would be willing to give up is another matter. You are looking at it from a what could we get for someone you dont like. Garland makes more sense with his age with peak years still ahead of him, while Garcia is aging and losing his velocity year by year. From a baseball what is best for the sox perspective, Garcia is the one to go. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) He already has over 1000 innings of major-league pitching under his belt. How much longer does he need to "figure himself out"? I like Jon and hope that he gets back on track soon. But the Sox have been ridiculously patient with him and showed him the money this past winter. If Jon can't turn it around and pitch like a $9 million/year starter, he won't be in a Sox uniform throughout the duration of his contract. Ridiculously patient huh? They have been patient with him for every year Ozzie has been here, and we were rewarded with a great pitcher last year, and a good one this year. He will come around, you all were calling for Garcia's head with his first few starts, and now since he has turned it around, you are all over his jock. Jon is a good pitcher, and I expect him to keep improving throughout the season. He is 27 for god sakes, he will be prone to spells of bad games.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Freddy's 7-1, and Ozzie and Freddy are very close. I'm sure if the Sox trade one of their starters, Ozzie will have a say in who it is. While I think its possible Freddy could go, it probably would take an unbelievable package for Ozzie to give his endorsement. Garland, on the other hand, may be more attractive to deal to get out of the $22 million total obligation for 2007-8. The White Sox tried to deal Ordonez when backloaded contract went to the payoff year. Garland, unless he really turns it around, will be overpriced next season, and ridiculously priced in 2008. I really think the Sox have no intention of paying that contract, at least the final $12 million. From a baseball perspective, keeping a good 27 year old starter who is just now figuring himself out, is better than re-signing an aging pitcher, who is only going to lose more MPH off of his fastball, no matter who he is close to. It makes more sense to keep Garland, bar none.
  15. On their MLB board, alot of them side with AJP. I mean, Barrett's actions were so retarded even he admitted that he was wrong.
  16. QUOTE(Felix @ May 22, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Freddy isn't going anywhere because of the Ozzie connection, and if Mark goes anywhere, I'll be pissed off at KW (just like if BMac gets traded, I'd flip a s***). BMac should be in the rotation this year, but since Garland was signed to a rather bloated (read: stupid) 3 year deal with a no-trade clause for this year, he's stuck in the pen. Get rid of Garland in the offseason (assuming the no-trade clause is only for this season), and stick BMac into the rotation then. Yes, im sure when KW is making business decisions for trying to improve his team, and keep it good for years to come, the personal relationship between a player and the manager would kill all reasons to get rid of a player. Please. Your blatant Garland hatred has blurred your vision.
  17. I want to just wait a year so we can get Oden.
  18. Great thread idea BTW. I voted for Freddy based on age mostly, but also that we could trade him, and for a nice price as well.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Bashed the fans... something Frank has never done. Yup, but everyone seems to forget about that. Anyone who boos him isnt a sox fan in my eyes.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Scott Elarton was close to tears after the game today, he stated the obviously saying that the team is horrible in every facit of the game and it seems that no one in the clubhouse really cares about winning. I actually felt sorry for the guy, go figure. Maybe he would like to pitch out of our bullpen?
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) That makes sense because so many teams will be clammering over an injury prone and currently injured pitcher who's currently making $11M and he happens to have a full NO-trade clause. If you take out your part about his no trade clause, your discription sounds a hell of alot like a certain AJ Burnett
  22. I will tell you what. It wouldnt be that hard to make some money with an NHL franchise in chicago if operated correctly. You couldnt tell me that putting some games on comcast and WGN, signing some good young players, and making the games more fan friendly wouldnt bring in some fans.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Difference between Thome and Thomas. Thome didn't rip his organization and he didn't constantly whine to the media about money. Thome is a class act and an outstanding ball player. Big Skirt is a washed up, loudmouthed jackass who can't do anything but run his damn mouth anymore. Shoulda hung it up 2 years ago. Does that really negate all the things he did for this organization. Bringing new fans to the team with his utter domination in the 90's. He was the white sox for many years, and anyone who boos him is a piece of s*** IMO. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 21, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Frank and AJ hanging out, scary. Frank and Garland hanging out, awkward. Big Frank was known to hang out with Rowand in the offseason and train as well. Oh, and another thing that people seem to forget is that Ozzie "the savior" Guillen bashed the sox when he left too.
