Texas could be good next year. I hope we get to see Michigan WSU
-
I'm going to go ahead and circle the Wolverines into the next round. Texas has no shot.

If Texas can't stop giving michigan looks they are going to lose by 30. You can't let them shoot so easily. It's amazing how much better michigans defense looks when out of conference. They look really tough.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Yes, I know about the past. If you went by that, you'd pick Izzo, then Matta. I'm just talking about NOW...the past couple of years. And also how Beilein maximized all of the talent at West Virginia. For awhile, it looked like Matta was going to consistently bring in Conley/Oden type of talent...like Calipari. His recruiting has fallen off just a bit. And sure, Matta did the same thing at Butler...then Lickliter succeeded with his players. Like Mattas conference title in 2012 with a final four. 3 straight sweet sixteen, a conference tournament title last year. What kind of recruiting class does Matta have coming in next year? Matta also never maximized talent at Xavier and Butler. It's not like he had a NPOY there or anything. 5 big ten titles and four conference tourney titles in 9 years. Since he joined the big Ten nobody has more. But I guess it's way in the past when thinking about 2012.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) Right now, if I wanted to win one game or one tourney though...I'd pick Beilein over Izzo. By a nose. You'd pick the guy who hasn't won a conference tourney? Ok. I'm guessing you haven't actually looked up the coaches resumes.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Michigan looking dominant. 30-12 lead for the Wolverines. Amazing how good this team would be with Burke and McGary. Some would pick Matta or Izzo, but Beilein has to be considered the best coach in the league now. Someone else might argue that Bo Ryan gets the most out of his talent. Then you have Miles and Pitino, with Collins getting lots of respect for his job with NU, maybe too much. Matt Painter looked like a future coaching star and he's a year away from losing his job. Same with Crean. No, MOSt would pick Matta or Izzo. Matta has dominated the league since he joined. Most conf titles and tourney titles.

Sfa has 29 straight wins. Wow

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) Soccer players in Europe were jealous of that flop, but there is zero reason to contest that shot. Horrible play. The only guy who thought it was smart was Shannon Scott.

What a great game. Of course I have Vcu but who cares.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) 4 point plays are good when down 4 with 3 seconds left. And it was a flop. Game changing acting.

my all buzzcut bracket not looking good.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Remember when Wichita State had the hardest bracket in the history of the world? That's why you worry about the one team in front of you and let the rest of the bracket play out. Michigan has a red carpet. My work bracket had Duke winning it. Whoops
-
I knew Mercer was good, Duke doesnt look like they are losing.
-
Duke isnt hitting shots, but man they are athletic and can rebound. I hope we get to see them vs Michigan.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) Right, but the RPI either needs to drastically change or be de-emphasized. Aside from being in the top 5 in the human polls, Louisville is in the Top 5 in the Pomeroy and ESPN BPI ratings, and pretty much any other newer metric. RPI weighs schedule strength very heavily. I think that's perfectly fine when evaluating bubble teams and deciding who gets in (NC State) and who doesn't (SMU), but it shouldn't be given the same weight in the seeding process. A much fairer seeding would have gone like this: SOUTH: 1 Florida 2 Louisville 3 Duke 4 UCLA WEST: 1 Arizona 2 Michigan 3 Villanova 4 VCU MIDWEST: 1 Wichita State 2 Kansas 3 Wisconsin 4 Syracuse EAST: 1 Virginia 2 Villanova 3 Michigan State 4 Iowa St I like anything that de-emphasizes the polls. Leaving seeding close to the hands of reporters is a stupid idea.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) Didn't they crush Wisconsin on the road too? Didnt everyone?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) No it isn't. When Kentucky just missed the tourney last year, the committe didn't care that it was the defending national champs. You seed teams based on what they did that season, not what you think they might do because of their past. Do you want to start seeding teams by the preseason poll? Polls should continue to have little to nothing to do with it IMO.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) From the looks of it, I think it's ligament sprain probably MCL. It's tough to guess at the duration but it's minimum 3 weeks depending on severity up to 8. Judging by the why he came off the ice, I would guess 3-4. What I thought as well. I thought that or a meniscus.

Who's your favorite cinderella team?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) Pretty much completely different comparison here. The Cardinals were the #3 team in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll and picked to win American conference by the media and the coaches. The Cardinals returned 7 of 9 players from a team that won the 2013 NCAA Championship and both Big East regular season and tournament championships.[1] The team is lead by captains, All-American Russ Smith, 2013 Final Four MOP Luke Hancock and Montrezl Harrell.[2] [3] But they were 19th in RPI. The math is what got them the seed regardless of the players. Now WHERE they play can be extremely subjective.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) Yeah, I get that. Ohio State was seeded where they ended up in the polls. Louisville got screwed, pretty inexplicably. Many had (and still do have) them winning the whole thing again. If they want to punish the conference fine, but to seed a team that won the preceding national championship at #4 is ludicrous with how they've played the last month. i understand it because they have to be somewhat consistent in how they seed. I have them going quite a ways regardless, it just makes it tougher for them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Iowa lived off upsetting Ohio State in Columbus because at the time it seemed like a huge win. In fact, they lived off that win, at home against Michigan and a lot of close losses all the way until the last week of the season...when they were STILL ranked 24th despite losing two road games at Indiana and Minnesota. OSU was just living off Matta's reputation and Craft and the fact that they've been so good for so long now you just expect them to be in the Top 25...but it was obvious by some of their head-scratching losses they just didn't have the horses to go very far this year. For their ranking, sure. But the seeding is based on RPI, SOS and wins against top 100 teams. OSU was a clear favorite to get upset (which I picked) but the resume is what gave them the seeding. You have to disconnect ranking from seeding. Lou was a top 5 RANKED team seeded 4th in a region based on that math.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) I don't think this is 100% accurate. Iowa went from a 7-8-9 seed all the way down to 10 and then actually 11/play-in when they lost to Northwestern, largely because of NU's 150+ RPI. Nebraska was in the play-in game in a lot of brackets but moved off due to their play against WI and the B10 tourney, despite losing an 18 point lead. Regular season meaning not the NCAA tournament. Once the seeds are complete and the tournament starts there is no "ranking" until its over. Those teams are seeded where their resume is and you survive and advance.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) Well...it's definitely interesting to see them paired with another school from the same state in the first round. Obviously, Ohio State was overrated, but I'm not sure how fair that was. Then again, if they couldn't beat a good but not great Dayton team, they probably don't deserve to continue playing regardless. I'm just thinking if I was an Iowa/ISU fan and we had UNI/Drake...or let's say the Univ of Illinois and we had to play someone like Illinois State, UIC or Southern Illinois, it would feel like a no-win situation. Ohio State had that seeding because of what they did in the regular season including RPI and top 100 wins. "Rating" would be their AP ranking prior to the tournament starting which is now already moot.
