QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) FWIW the speed cameras have generated significantly less revenue than originally projected. I'm guessing the camera system vendor gave them a nice, fat number that justified the cost of the fancy new camera system. No I believe it was Rahm's team that came up with the projection and the actual has been a small percentage, not to mention the extreme corruption and bribery that went on when selecting the vendor. Meanwhile Colorado is making as much off of Marijuana taxes each month as they are on liquor taxes. They are projecting about 70 million in revenue this year. Just sayin

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Joel Quenneville's Mustache Teuvo Teravainen will be in Chicago by the end of the week. When he will officially join the team is to be determined. Good, although right now I think a lot of our issues are actually on defense.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) I saw a long list of teams. Those, plus Louisville, Ohio State, Florida. Who knows where he'll end up. We'll have open schollys and a need. At least he's not Rodney Hood, that hurt when he spurned us. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) They are. Using cameras to generate revenue is just wrong. Everyone breaks the law in the vehicle at some point. Should it cost them $100 because a camera caught them? Hell no. Illinois needs to get it's act together. This s*** has been going on too long and quite frankly it's embarrassing. Legalize marijuana for the tax relief.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) Not that it's terribly relevant, but these were ruled unconstitutional in South Dakota based on a statute that states the notice must be given to you in person by an issuing officer. It's being challenged here as well. I got a warning in Morton grove i think instead of a ticket.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) Your property taxes aren't set by the state. The governor has zero to do with that. Durbin will crush Oberweis, but the race for governor will probably be pretty close. Quinn has been very mediocre and Rauner doesn't seem to want to carry the social conservative baggage with him that could hurt him in some of the suburban areas. It sucks those are our two options since both are incredibly corrupt. Business as usual in Illinois.

At some point Jim Oberweis is going to finally understand nobody wants to elect his biggoted ass.

Dunn not in the best shape of his life

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 07:42 AM) Same here, but the real problem was addressed here a couple of months ago when Konerko re-signed. Sox simply don't have room for both PK and Dunn, not with the stud rookie playing every day. Hahn and JR have to face the music. They decided PK can come back, so Dunn should be jettisoned. Hahn keeps saying that he is playing for the long term -- fine, then cut Dunn if you can't trade him. He owes it the the other 24 players, if nobody else. So put Dunn in AAA? -
Flyers fans understand their team is dirty right?

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Ouch! Anybody else worried? And we get more suck with Heath No, only if he does this in chicago. ST for pitchers for me isnt as important.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) Whatever talent he's oozing, it isn't hitting or fielding a baseball. I get it, he's a physical specimen. Someone teach him how to play. He may look like Cabrera, but he sure as hell doesn't hit like him. 1. So he doesnt hit like probably one of the best hitters EVER? Thats CRAZY!!!!!!! 2. The guy put up a .775 OPS with us last year at age 22, and has tremendous upside. So yes, he has great talent.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) At this point, that's not going to happen. You mean we just arent "cutting guys?" The problem with Beckham getting hurt is he actually could have been dealt. Now he is off pretty much everyone's board.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) If smart watches are going to take off they are going to have to sell me on other features than "IT TAKES CALLS TO YOUR WRIST!" Honestly, don't hate the weather part. If they literally only gave me weather watch for less money I'd buy it. The thing is, our phones are in our hands already. Now I have to keep it in my pocket and put a nerd watch on my wrist? No thanks.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Agreed. I think Gravity and Avatar are the only two movies that made the upcharge worth it. The one scene from Harry Potter 5 (maybe 4?) with the sand in the ministry building was also cool. The rest? Meh. I thought I read ESPN3D shut down too. That's a dying fad that the market wasn't really interested in. Avatar is great. I also download kids cartoons in 3D for my nephews. Thats literally it. Sports in 3D sucks. It should be a feature you do not pay extra for. The glasses I got were under 20 bucks for active 3D and even that is overpaying.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Like 3d TV's, smartwatches are going to be such a gigantic waste of money. 3D TV is literally cool less than .001% of the time.

Official 2013-2014 College Hoops Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) How disgusting is college athletics when a dude that was blackballed from the sport for decades for lying to the NCAA, and who was eventually allowed back into coaching only to do the same thing again, is the hottest commodity out there? And the school is overwhelmingly cheered for it. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) Bruce Pearl hired at Auburn. Not sure if it's true, but I read elsewhere that the NCAA investigator that brought down Pearl at Tenn works in Auburn's athletic department. Yeah i saw that too. I also saw a few ESPN writers saying it was the best coaching duo in the country with him and Gus. Laughable. -
Dunn not in the best shape of his life

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) No, because you don't have a clue as it is. I really hope you are a kid that hasnt been around very long because you simply have no clue on this topic and are becoming the type of poster that people completely ignore because your ideas are totally insane. I've already stated the org's position on this topic and how they tried to deal him, and I mentioned these both months ago. If you cannot accept that's their direction you may want to search for something else to be completely crazy about. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) The fact is they are going to have to pay him anyway. If he can't help you win, there is no reason to have him on the roster. I wouldn't get rid of him yet. But if he isn't doing anything in the middle of May or the beginning of June, it's not like he will bring you back anything. It would probably be best for all involved to let him go. Unlike TUC, I would definitely see where he is at this season, first. I am not expecting much,, but stranger things have happened than Adam Dunn being somewhat productive, and he is a good guy so it's not like he is poisoning the clubhouse. It will be interesting to see how this develops. If he sucks, I doubt he lasts the entire season with the White Sox, even if they have to eat the maximum. I think you've nailed the White Sox thinking on this as well. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) On the other hand, paying him $15 million to play like he's played is giving $15 million away anyway. I don't agree with releasing him, but I doubt he suddenly becomes the hitter the Sox thought they were getting this season. 2 out of the 3 seasons he's been with the team, he has been a negative WAR. If you think he's going to do that again and you have to pay him anyway, paying $15 million for a zero WAR is better than paying $15 million for one less than that. Would you pay 15 million for him to play for the Sox or another team. There is your choice. Dont forget this is the White Sox and not a large payroll big market team. -
so both or one of the other?

Tyler Flowers is your 2014 starting catcher
RockRaines replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) For what catchers were going for in the off-season, it didn't make sense to spend 10-20 times what the Phegley would make, for a season that isn't really going anywhere. A guy who fit into your long term plans? Sure. The one guy the Sox liked, they were outbid for by the Yankees. Other than that, there were some really bad catchers and/or contracts out there. I dont see them "buying" a catcher at this point. Maybe take a flier on one through trade but thats about it. I've heard nothing but willingness within the org to see if one of their young guys can break out. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) That would be a terrible gamble my friend. Dunn as a FA right now is lucky to get $2M. Hell, he'd be lucky to even get a guaranteed MLB contract. Check Thome, Jim for a recent example of a better hitter with a better career coming off a better season & still no one wants him. And what's Thome now anyway? 40 or so? Jim Thome still is a better hitter than Adam Dunn, no bulls***, I'd absolutely f***ing bet on it. And Thome's a better leader too and actually gets it. Baseball brain vs. donkey brain. Dump Adam & make the DH spot the Paulie & Jimmy farewell tour instead. LOL, brain power still didnt come back for you huh? The fact you think they can "dump" Adam Dunn just like that is hilarious to me. Can you please explain how the White Sox or any professional baseball team could just "dump" a player like Adam Dunn.
