QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) I don't think going Apple will work for me. I use a couple mapping programs for outdoor travel that don't run on Apple's OS, plus I'd have a whole crap-load of other files I'd have to hope translated over OK. Not going to risk all that. Do like our iPad though. Sounds like it is either a simple server ssetup (with maybe a RAID controller), and then media server software, and software to rip the BD's and DVD's to disk. Then I have to figure out if there is a way to turn my current desktop rig (laptop) into a thin client over the server. Also, if I have a normal, non-Apple TV, how can it "read" from the media server? Doesn't the TV need software to do that? Or can the media server be controlled somehow with a remote, and just have it run via HDMI to the TV? Thats the kicker, something needs to be attached to the TV that can communicate to your media server. I dont know if "smart" tv's can do this yet or not since mine are all dumb, but Im sure something like Roku would work. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-great-ways-...-on-the-roku-3/ Looks like this guy uses Plex.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) We have successfully ripped BR's with Handbreak just fine. The files ARE quite big, however. I do the same as Rock, I have 2 AppleTV's connected to my televisions, where I can stream/airplay from any device in the house. I have 2 iMacs, 2 iPhones and an iPad, all can airplay to the televisions, or mirror themselves to the televisions. All connected via a single WiFI router. I have over 900 movies cataloged, dated, with synopsis and cover art in iTunes (all MP4's). I even have quite a few television shows, such as All in the Family, Friends, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead available just the same. It's really nice, on any of my televisions, you can scroll through a list of genres, years, etc, select the movie, and bam, it plays instantly. Do keep in mind that this is all grey area, as supposedly, you don't have the right to rip a DVD/BR even if you own it, which I find completely ridiculous. I have boxes of DVD's and CD cases FULL of them that I've purchased over the years, and they want to say we can't rip them (if this is even still true). This is about what I've done though Y2 is much further along. I initially tried to use my PS3 but the streaming on it is horribly inconsistent and it only read itunes movies if I put them on something like Vuze. Also you cannot access files stored locally on one ps3 from another TV. Thus the Apple TV and my mac as the media server was born.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) No they don't. Those drunken buffoons are just looked for a reason to haze people. They don't give a god damn about the indian head on the floor. They care about their paychecks. The meatheads making Bieber memes are just f***ing idiots. Not true, but continue your crabby posts in every thread. Hope whatever made you in this mood wasnt too bad. But when you get a chance ask a Hawks player what they think. Actually ask any athlete who has had a similar item that they respected from their team if its just a way to "haze people."

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) When was the last time you were IN the United Center? It's like going back in time. The locker room and players facilities? Becauses thats all players care about, they dont care about the fans seats. They are also building a state of the art practice and training facility right in the city so players have the option of actually living downtown.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) Huh? That makes no sense. Madison Square Garden is almost 30 years older than the UC. The Staples Center is only about 4 years newer. American Airlines Arena (Miami) is only about 5 years newer. It's not like the UC was a dump when it was built either. The only real disadvantage they have that's stadium-related is that it's in a city that NBA players seem to think is in Siberia because of it's notorious winters (or some s***, I don't know). Plus they are building a brand new practice facility right across the street. So ours will be state of the art compared to other teams.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) I had a feeling the Mac needed to be on and iTunes open. To me, that's a major draw back. The media server where ever is is located is going to have to be on and network accessible. So whatever you determine is going to do that brokerage its got to be on all the time. You can easily set up a NAS but something from your tv has to be able to access and understand those file types.

AHB, ill rip a blue ray right now and see what happens.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) When I set out to do this, I thought that as well. however, I believe the AppleTV requires you to leave your Mac on, am I correct? I was under the impression that the Mac becomes the media server. My mac is always on as it is, I never turn it off, havent in years. I also need itunes to be open as I convert all my files to something it can understand so I can stream to my Apple TV. I've started ripping my DVD collection and havent had any issues so far. The illegally downloaded material was what I originally deployed this for. I used to do this with a windows media server back in the day and it worked a little differently but still required the PC to be on.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) So I really don't care for Zooey Daschenel, but my wife and I just breezed through New Girl Season 1 on Netflix. Pretty hilarious show. Shes a c*** but the guys are awesome. My brother in law works on the show and says those guys are hilarious even off camera.
-
My imac plays that role and streams all my media via apple TV, all of my files are stored in an external storage farm I built which is probably now about 4 TB. I use Apple TV because I am all mac because of work and because we also have ipads. You can also do this with things like Roku and others. I just found it easier and cheaper deploying a few apple tv's around the house.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Anastasia had a weird boyfriend back home during the current season. She was never really the focal point of the previous season. She kind of just sat back and let everyone else act like idiots on camera. She also lacks a chin which to me is not attractive at all.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) The whole thing is just f***ing stupid. If Justin Bieber wants to see the Stanley Cup and take pictures of it - that's cool. If it's the end of the world that someone steps on a f***ing logo that's on the FLOOR then don't put the cup one foot behind it. Or, here's a better idea, f*** your stupid logo on the stupid floor. Next, please tell me that the players should not skate over the logo at center ice. Its not the end of the world but the players see it as disrespect. And the whole point of respecting the logo is because it is on the floor and it shows respect when you consciously avoid it. Hundreds of teams do the same thing so its not exactly unique to the hawks. In sports there are alot of strange rituals that show signs of respect, whether its touching a rock on your way down to a field to slapping a sign above the doorway.
-
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the person who handed the Cup to Belushi or the person who let Bieber into the locker room. I couldn't be less interested in these asinine "traditions". By now I've seen what seems like 500 people with no connection to the hockey team lifting the Cup anyway. You don't want someone walking on the Indian head? Don't put it on the f***ing floor. Simple as that. LOL, the whole part about not walking on it is because its on the floor, its a respect thing. About 50+ sports teams do this including HS and college. Watch the movie Goon and you'll even see it in movies.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Someone is a closet Belieber. I couldnt care less who touches the cup. Thousands of drunk people in chicago already have. I would have punted him off the logo. Anyone for that matter if I was one of the hawks org.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) impressive boob hunters on that site 24 hour live feeds will do that to you. They always catch everything, especially if you decide to jerk it or have sex. They already caught a girl flicking the bean.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) Especially while you're grinding up against them before the pants come off. This is frowned upon. Ive done that before, it actually helped me out, she thought it was cute. Now I was 15 at the time....

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Jake, First of all thanks, just reading other peoples stories can sometimes give me insight that I may overlook when I get to deep into a situation. I have been on the other side of the coin, I know its a delicate. Which is obviously not great for someone like me who is constantly replaying every time Ive ever seen her to try and get some sort of clearer picture on whats going on. But obviously this is a long con, which is why at this point Im just trying to get the pieces in the right places to start. Good news for me is that a lot of my friends are really into this idea and want to make it happen. Better news is some random girl (well shes a friend of a friend, but first time I met her) basically pulled me aside and was like "You and that girl are amazing together blah blah blah", so Im not the only one seeing it, which leads me to believe that there is actually something there. Gotta be delicate though lol, which is why Im doing hilarious things like walking past her building after court just in case I happen to bump into her.... Sometimes you gotta make your own breaks. At the end of the day if you have chemistry and things in common it becomes easy to advance things without actually proactively doing it. For example if you have something of interest in common, just suggest doing that together, it could be tennis or something random. Theres less pressure and if things click things will happen naturally. My wife and I just started dating because we loved hanging out with each other.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) Do you have a passport? If so the Windsor/London/Toronto/Niagara trip is a million times better than the US version. Yup, cleveland and detroit basically suck big donkey balls, though I can recommend at least 2 cant miss restaurants if thats your thing. If I told you the best corned beef sandwich Ive ever had is in cleveland I bet nobody would believe me.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) I think we all like to think of ourselves as noble but I really hope I do feel this way when the time comes. We men are truly physical creatures and can be distracted. beautiful women. It's sad that we always look to upgrade. Well and with women, if they start to workout like crazy and starts buying new clothes you know shes either currently cheating or is going to. So she probably has that same mindframe.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) You are overthinking the s*** out of this....next time you see her, an hour or so into the evening, just tell her you really enjoyed talking with her the last time you saw her and ask for her phone number. Right, before seeing her just remember that she probably likes talking to you more than the other people too. It makes things move forward without pushing.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) Ya, this. Is it just me or is this cast just extremely unlikable so far? Agreed. It seems they went with the all somewhat attractive cast and came up with a bunch of idiots.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) Played for the first time in 2 years on Saturday morning. Drove the ball the best I have in my life, but couldn't make a putt over 5 feet and the greens were pretty beat up from the heat and the holiday players. I've always struck the ball really well coming off long layoffs, and then I seem to pick up bad habits the more I play...anyone else like this? Yes, its happened to me. Means you have a pure comfortable swing but then begin to tinker due to multiple factors. If you could just harness that at the range it would help your game quite a bit. Everyone has the slotted swing that feels natural, you just have to find it.
