  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) That was what I did in the Biggert/Foster election. I wrote-in a friend's name. I don't support Biggert, but Foster is bad himself and the difference between the two didn't amount to enough for me to care. I suppose on the whole I'm glad Foster won, but he wasn't going to do it with my vote. That's your right under democracy and nobody has the right to tell you your opinion or actions were wrong. Anyone who does obviously doesn't understand freedom of choice in general.
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) it literally just means we value two different things. you value your individual voice and opinion and the future over the good of the whole right NOW. there's merit to both, but the one thing that I won't back down on is that a vote for a third party candidate gives the opposite candidate a little boost. What opposite candidate? You are locked into a this or that system. Me voting for Stein in cook county gave Romney zero boost whatsoever. None. It did however boost the support financially for one of the more viable third parties.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:06 AM) lol exactly. and that person would have been Romney whether you want to admit it to me or not. Here's the reality. There will NOT be a viable third party until a candidate comes along who has the same "rock star" persona of Obama in 2012. Ron Paul is the closest to that right now. Had he run as a third party candidate this time around, I bet he would've been really close to 5% Until the green party gets a candidate like that, it does NOT make sense to vote for them, because a vote for a green party candidate is taking a vote AWAY from the democratic candidate, who aligns CLOSER with my views than the alternative - which is the republican candidate. Thus, a green vote, helps the republican party. See how that works yet? Or is it still too simple for you to understand? Lol, didn't know you were the all knowing lord of politics. Stein got enough support to make 20 million for the party for next election. That's a very good thing. And part of democracy is having the right to choose to support other parties. Second, most of us live in Illinois where our presedential votes don't matter anyway, so why are those not wasted votes? Why not try and support the financial gain of a third party instead where your vote actually moves the needle?
  4. And let's be honest, if all that happened is two freshman who may not have played that many meaningful minutes dont play for some games, thats pretty damn good considering what you've been through. Textbook slap on the wrist.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Colorado Exit Polls: Obama - 48.51% Romney - 48.02% Michigan Exit Poll: Obama - 51.57% Romney - 46.43% Wisconsin Exit Poll: Obama - 52.1% Romney - 46.41% So neither Mitt or Ryan can actually carry their home states.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Apparently not. Sadly, it wasn't even one donation, it was several donations totaling a whopping $185, the last 15 years before he dealt with the two kids. As detailed in the NCAA’s October 31, 2012 decision letter: The institution was aware that Mr. Adams and his nonprofit organization had provided support to Mr. Perea and Mr. Jurkin, but believed such support was generally permissible pursuant to an NCAA June 6, 2000, interpretation, given Mr. Adams’ status as their nonscholastic coach and Mr. Perea’s apparent legal guardian. At the time, the institution did not believe Mr. Adams to be a representative of their athletics interests. From the summer of 2010 through April 2011, during the course of planning the recruitment of Mr. Perea and Mr. Jurkin, the institution’s compliance staff worked closely with the conference office, the NCAA AMA staff and NCAA enforcement basketball focusgroup staff regarding the relationship between Mr. Adams and the institu tion’s men’s basketball program and how to ensure the permissible recruitment of prospective student-athletes with ties to Mr. Adams’ nonscholastic team. It was not until April 2011 that the then assistant athletics director for compliance revealed for the first time that he had knowl edge that Mr. Adams previously had made donations to the institution’s booster club. After completing his degree in 1980, Mr. Adams donated nominal amounts to the institution’s booster club. In total, Mr. Adams donated $185 between 1986 and 1992. He has made no other additional financial contributions in support of the institution’s athletics program. Despite the minimal nature of Mr. Adams’ donations, and the fact that the last donation he made was more than 15 years before he provided expenses to a prospective student-athlete who enrolled at the institution, Mr. Adams must be considered a represen tative of the institution’s athletics interests. The NCAA Basketball Focus Group worked with Indiana University staff to review the interaction between the men’s basketball program and Adams, A-HOPE, and Indiana Elite and have found no impermissible access or additional basis to further establish Adams as a representa- tive of Indiana University’s athletics interests. But he is clearly a fan of the program right and somewhat steered them there? Why 14k in stuff directly to those kids? Just seems strange, like a "handler". I know there has been compliance issues at OSU that as soon as you buy season tickets, individual tickets or donate to a charity they put you on the "no contact" list.
  7. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) I've got only 3 in me. This whole 12 pack will probably be gone by the end of this. Nervous drinking. Let me calm your nerves. The election wont do much to change your immediate life, a first term president has no power if Romney wins and the house and senate will block most of Obama's laws. More of the same.
  8. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) Enough to make me not want to tune in Welcome to the world of NIke. Marquettes are worse. On the IU stuff from before. So why did this AAU coach who obviously has close relationships to IU and somewhat steered these kids there give them over 14k in stuff? Why a laptop and cell phone? It seems odd. I agree that the official tie to the university is weird, but wouldnt the staff coming off of probation have checked into this?
  9. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Perea and Jurkin suspended 9 games because AAU coach Mark Adams donated $185 to Indiana University from 1982-1985 and is considered a booster of the program. HILARIOUS I'm glad Adams knew that Jurkin and Perea would be AWESOME players when they were born 10 years after he donated! Jesus christ NCAA... As UK wins with the NPOY who took $200,000 to go there........ There is probably more to the story than that. 9 games is nothing anyway. The NCAA is trying to crack down on AAU coaches steering kids to schools they are closely aligned with.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) Indiana Exit Poll: Obama - 43% Romney - 55% Fox had Romney at over 60% and called it with less than 1% in.
  11. I know it sounds racist, but IMO the advanced polls and experts always forget that the really active contributors in projects arent always the people who turn out to vote. I.E. the poorer minority vote here in chicago that dont even have internet. They get bused to voting stations today.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) I didn't know if I was going to vote for Obama or Jill Stein. Steiner!!! I voted for her. Her platform on education is to make it free through college and forgive all student loans. How could you not love that s***.
  13. I feel pretty good about Jill Stein's chances.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) But there's always numerous local and state elections and referendums. My father-in-law is the township commissioner where he lives, and he was just talking about how all of their programs focus very heavily on the seniors because that's who comes out and votes in off-year and spring elections. If more people from other demographics bothered to vote, local government would reflect their preferences more. Check the second half of my post.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) While I get that, it's vote AND do this. Politicians don't look at voting numbers and thing, oh the voting population is lower than last year. They think "holy crap, I need to get another 3% of the people that actually vote!". And I've found that many of the people that preach that bulls*** don't actually take part in the day to day anyways. They use the same excuse for everything. It's righteous bulls***. It's amazing, democracy is. On this day a coal miner, a day trader and an electrician took part in the decisions of a country. That's still cool even today. Eh, they can kinda take part. If you live in a rock solid state for one of the two parties your vote means less than that of a swing state. Sad but true. Now the local races and issues are much more important to the individual, unfortunately PAC's have ruined alot of that information as well.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 5, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) If youre interested in why Zoom's been so quiet, its because hes been locked in a room writing this preview. http://flapship.com/big-ten-ncaa-basketball-preview/ Way too much respect for MSU.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 5, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) Woodson is far from their best coverage DB. First game this year Tramon Williams and Morgan Burnett covered Marshall. Woodson will probably be back for the Bears game anyways. Did you notice how I said best DB and not best coverage DB yet you inserted that language? Woodson kills the Bears with blitzes and turnovers. And its not set in stone he will be back and back 100%.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 5, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) The problem with that is it leaves you with only two WR and one RB. Really limits what you can do on offense. Green Bay did lost their best DB and we have a clear advantage with Marshall on the team now. I wouldnt mind trying those sets out.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) Benet played a great second half. Now, can Benet beat Downers North? DGN baby. Cinderella.
  20. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) This Indiana team is just fun to watch. Wilson is really turning it around. Best recruiting class we've ever had coming in next year, plus 19/22 starters coming back, plus the best player on our team (Roberson) coming back from injury. Should be a fun ride coupled with the basketball program. IU is going to be making some serious money soon. Maybe you'll fill more than 1/3 of the stadium then.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 3, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) Drink up before the Haterade gets warm. One would think you were a fan of a powerhouse football program the way you talk smack. Maybe those big wins in the Sun and Hawaii bowl have made your head a little too big.
  22. All I needed today was Meyer to pull a sweater vest and sit on the ball. Instead the 3rd team ran the ball right down the field. IU has a chance to be in the conference title game, the question is why dont any of their fans know that? Pathetic. I thought Wanny was coaching Pitt there at the end, of course in ND fashion a couple of bounces (or flags) went their way. Should have smoked PItt anyway, they blow.
