2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) I think OSU and Michigan are both a bit high. They both have some question marks with the new faces breaking into their lineup. I personally don't see a ton of difference between 2 and 6 in the conference (and even with Indiana, they need to defend better) and those teams will all beat each other up a bit in conference. I'd have MSU, OSU, Michigan and Wisconsin all in the 10-20 range with Minnesota slightly lower. Losing one of the best players in College bball should hurt quite a bit, I'm not sold on this version of the Buckeyes. Basically no low post game and one player taking a large percentage of your shots from the wing. Ross is the key of the offense and dominated the summer camp circuit but he's a huge question mark. I think we all end up in the teens yet do some serious damage in the tourney because I still think its the best conference in the country. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) Huge Sam Thompson fan. Looks like IU/OSU/Cuse are going to be in a for a battle for Mr. Noah Vonleh's services here in the next few months. Kid is an absolute freak. Will be a fun year. Matta has been whiffing on almost every touted recruit over the last year and a half, it would be a nice change to actually get one. Thompson has put on about 15-20 lbs according to insiders, I just hope he's put on a jumper to go with it. -
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) Nothing wrong with that, I'm just kind of giving you s***. Maybe I will get flamed for this because I realize there are plenty of successful people here who like to smoke but I honestly I was gonna say (and I realize you said you quit) quit smoking that s*** everyday, people that have their life focused on smoking weed usually don't go anywhere in live. I mean yea that s*** was cool in highschool but come on man time to grow up and focus on other things. Just my two cents. If thats your focus, doing anything that involves wasting time is toxic. I've been an everyday user for well over 12 years, am successful in my job and personal life (or so I like to think). Of course I am a past 8pm-pre sleep user mostly as I dont believe in pharmaceutical sleeping medication.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 07:19 AM) So when did Indiana start becoming a football recruiting school... On the verge of landing about 4-5 four star defensive players. WOW. Most of them saying Crean is a huge part of their recruitment. Hilarious. Sounds like the Gunner Kiel hype story again. Kevin Wilson is an offensive genius, not sure on the defensive side though. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 07:18 AM) I think ND will have a very good year. Saw Seth davis went to IU practice this week and Louisville/OSU practice the next days. Said IU is on a whole other level than the rest of the teams. Should be a fun year. I think OSU will be very tough by the end of the year. To be accurate, what he said was the they were a better team because of their tremendous depth. And I think he just just still salty from SAm Thompson slapping his nuts on Seth's head: http://ptch.com/ptch/5078c40c8d4f983d4fa0c7a9 The big weakness of the other Big Ten teams IMO is depth. OSU has barely any quality post players or scorers other than Thomas, Michigan is relying on big years from freshman, and MSU's best player is also a frosh. Indiana has the ability to change their entire look with quality bench players and also talented freshman. Obviously i know most about OSU because they're my team and we will be just an also-ran if guys like Zelle and Shannon Scott havent learned to drive the offense and we are betting BIG TIME on LaQuinton Ross to be a huge scorer from the wings. If none of that materializes it will be a disappointing year for sure. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) I think this upcoming year with Abrams/Richardson/Paul and to a lesser extent Bertrand/Langford the Illini will be in decent shape with Groce offense in place. It is the season after next I expect struggles with Paul/Richardson gone and the only real ball handler on the team being Abrams. But, with how aggressive Groce seems to be on the recruiting trail, after being here a year and especially if he shows some instant succcess I expect some big recruits like we never came close too under Bruce Weber. I'm still hoping Weber does well at Kansas State or hopefully if that tanks he can go back to SIU and make them relevant again, I just think his system works better at mid major level unless given top players which he wasn't able to land himself. They should upset some teams at home but I fully expect them to be middle of the pack. Groce IMO is a good fit for recruiting chicago-area wings and will run an exciting up tempo offense that will draw in fans and excitement more than Bruce's motion did. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) Romney also didn't even start the Binders Full of Women project, that was done by an independent group before he was elected. And, while running Bain, women were seriously underrepresented in top positions. http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/20...-women-ctd.html Investment firm, big money, duh.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Not even a single vote. Thanks again Bruce Weber! In good time man, be patient. It may be rough this year. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I don't figure a debate to be a good debate when neither candidate truly answers any questions -- or actually debates anything -- but merely regurgitates party line talking points over and over in response to the others talking points. That's not a debate. It's a political infomercial for two parties, at best. A debate is when two individuals discuss a subject, and "debate" the pros and cons of their ideas/policies. That's not what happened last night. The Bill O'Reilly/Jon Stewart debate was more or less what I consider a good debate, even if injected with comedy at times. At least there were times that both admitted they agreed with each other, and when they didn't they discussed why instead of just changing the subject which resorted in them restating some various talking point that was memorized off a cheat sheet of some sort. O'Reilly and Stewart dont answer to their parties and lobbyists. Money control these candidates, and their "viewpoints" as well. Just look at each of their viewpoints before they became candidates, totally flip flopped based on where the money comes from.

First coaches poll out 3 Big Ten teams in top 5. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/poll/2 -
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) I found the VP debate to much more constructive in terms of the discussion of policy and after watching last night's debate I really appreciate Biden calling Ryan out constantly for lying or not giving out details. Ryan was generally more detailed and Biden likewise...and it made the BO/JB ticket look better. It particularly made Ryan look bad when in the midst of his details, he awkwardly tried to explain why he would not give details on his tax policy. The problem with that debate is that both VP's need to conform to the parties views. Ryan's policies and voting history are so different than the republican platform for this election.
-
Its not just the debates, you can hear the money in their pockets from lobyists and powerful party leaders come out through their mouths. These guys at least during campaigning and first term leadership are puppets of their party and who paid them the most money.
-
One question for the real political fans on here: How do they get the poll results? Seems that the population they would poll from wouldnt be indicative of who is actually going to vote come Nov.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 08:49 AM) So the wifey and I are starting to look into buying a second car. We have a 2010 Ford Escape which is good for the baby and trips and whatnot, but we need a better commuter car for her to get to work. Probably 25-30 miles a day in mostly city or packed highway driving. And with enough space in the backseat to put a car seat. I'd like to get a hybrid, but looking at the options it seems like you're stuck with a crappy look (Prius) or a hatchback. I'm not really into either one. In terms of a sedan, it looks like one of the best options is the Toyota Camry. Anyone read up on cars as a hobby? Any suggestions? Just buy a Honda Civic. Good gas mileage, enough backseat room and cheap.

I'm still waiting on Romney's policy specifics for the economy, cant his party put them out today or something since he only said "it will work" again on tv. Doing the math, he's reducing all taxes (his words) increasing spending in key areas and somehow that reduces the deficit? I dont understand how anyone can believe that. I also dont understand how he can say he's a great business-runner with a straight face. You grew up with money, made investments for awhile and then took a bailout.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 01:45 AM) I would think now is the perfect time for an independent to step up and take on both of those fools. Too bad no one so far has shown they can take on either party. It's too bad our "democracy" only allows for two candidates.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) These poll stats are hilarious. CNN has obama winning by 8% overall (who won) But in basically every individual category Romney is winning. So I guess they just dont like Romney because it seems they are buying what hes selling. He still hasnt come up with his "plan". That's the problem. You cant criticize what someone did and say you will do better without having something concrete to say on the matter. He clearly wants to say what HE would do but is hamstrung by his party and especially the people who are shoving money in his pocket. You could see it when the Gun Control topic came up. He took out an NRA card and read the slogan on the back. Doesnt matter anyway. Why do we think these people will magically change anything that they say they are. Obama's has alot of his policies blocked for his term and so will Romney if he wins.
-
Obama makes a statement that Romney wont tell anyone his plan, that his math doesnt add up. Romney gets up and says, yeah it adds up, but you have a deficit. And thats it. Zero plan. What is your plan dude, what IS IT????
-
His face matches his actions. Looks like the type of Internet tough guy you'd see on those forums. I have no doubt he's also milking his wife's "disability" for government assistance. If you had time to post that much on the Internet then you had time to work more and provide for your family. Instead you sat around, acted like a jag, and by the looks of it scarfed sacks and sacks of McDonald's.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Out of curiosity, whats the tattoo? I've thought about getting the Thrice lyrics "No Regrets, just rebirth, move forward, and ignite" on my wrists. Mine is a latin phrase that kind of translates into "remember where you came from".

Even though SF lost, I have still have them up higher than the Giants.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) Ya in hindsight it was a terrible decision on my part to ditch all my friends. For those 3 years we had a cycle, I wake up around 10 or 11, she calls me around noon, I go to work at 2, get off work at 8, pick her up on the way home, we chill till 12-1, I drop her off at her "friends" (who turned out to be her other man/now husband), then I go home and sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat everyday for 3 years. We spent birthdays and holidays together, I thought it was legit and she was all I needed...I was wrong and I've paid for it ever since. Hey, everyone has made a mistake like that where a girl forces you to only be about her. Its terrible and total poison, I have a tatto to remind me of this poor decision every day. My changes after the fact led me to find a relationship that is completely healthy and makes me happy.
