  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) Less than a 0 percent chance of that happening. They would be the favorites to win it all imo if this happens(I'm still not buying it) but there is no chance in hell they win 70, none. They will consistently be in the 60's with those three players. All it takes is some luck and they hit 70. If a team like Dallas a few years back can flirt with it, this team can hit it for sure.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) They will never win 70 games so get that out of your head. I bet they do.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Guys, if miami gets Lebron, it's not a contest. That team would not lose. You may be able to shut one down in the course of a game, maybe 2, but just one of those guys can win singlehandedly. It's over for the NBA if that happens. MAYBE kobe/gasol can beat them. MAYBE. edit: would not lose a 7 game series They still prob win 60-70 games each year which is f***ing domination. Anyoone saying anything else is in denial. Bron by himself makes a team a contender, let alone a good PF and one of the best players in the NBA.
  4. Great to hear. Glad you liked Tufano's, it is good not great, but the whole appeal is how old is it and how sorta toned down it is. Next time you are in town ill have to put you into La Scarola for great italian fare.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Varnado was a great pick I really like Butler.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) Peavy pitched far better than the numbers, had been coming on strong, and was expected to have a slow start due to the fact that he hadn't pitched much over the past year and a half. This injury was a big loss. We built our team around pitching and who knows if our pitching will hold up. Do we have the ponies and do we have depth, certainly, but this was a huge loss. Especially when you can state that we hadn't even seen the best of Peavy yet (when he goes on a roll, he's fun to watch). I'll argue he was on said roll when he went down. In fact his last pitch this season was a great pitch with movement and velocity. He was cruising.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) It seems like a lot of people have absolutely no idea how good they are, let alone will be. No matter where LeBron goes today and Carmelo goes eventually, OKC will end up with the Larry O'Brien trophy at least once in the coming years. Pretty sure I havent heard ONE person on the new even say Durant's name this offseason when talking about the top players in the NBA.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) Well that's not a great comparison because Malone and Payton were old men then. But I think your overriding point is correct in that this isn't a video game. Having great players will get you a long way, but it doesn't guarantee a ring. Particularly when their cap hits limit what help you can get them. That's because they wouldn't be. I'm still not convined they'd be better than the Thunder if OKC continues their rapid development. The Thunder will be a real threat this upcoming season and many after that. Durant doesnt show any signs of slowing down and they have a bunch of young talent. Couple of picks and they could really make a charge. I do however think that the Heat picked up a few good pieces in this last draft that are being overlooked.
  9. I love how quietly Durant signed an extension. He's probably the best scorer in the game and nothing about it on ESPN.com front page.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah, with those things in mind, sounds like Cleveland makes the most sense. Oh, and welcome to page 300 of this thread. Page 60 for me
  11. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) I guess I am not fooled by the big name. I don't see any evidence of him being an emotional leader. He may fire himself up but that's it Not really sure what fooled by the big name means, if by fooled by the most talented arm in our rotation is what you mean, then it makes more sense. And take a look at quotes from the entire season, players, coaching staff, FO, about how influential Peavy is to the mental state of the team. Its a huge loss, and if downplaying it makes you feel better, than have at it.
  12. Stay away from Twitter, it will make your life easier.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Anthony Morrow/Mike Miller. You have to pick up a few of them actually. SG, backup, and backup PG.
  14. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) I am probably in the minority here but I don't think this loss is a big deal. The guy hasn't pitched consistently all season. Sure he has been hot lately but he gave us a lot of bad starts too. I think he is fairly replaceable and we have the weapons to do it. Losing him and gaining a bat is still a big win. Dont be foolish, Peavy was a big part of the team turning it around. It coincides with when he turned it around. He's the most talented pitcher on this staff and an emotional leader. Its a huge loss.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) Is it bad I'm really rooting for him to go to New York if he doesn't come here? No, because if he does, we match up well with them and I think can contend much better in the east than if he goes to Miami.

  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) again, compare Rose's freshman year assist total to Deron Williams. I don't ever think Rose will ever be as complete a PG as Williams but I really think you guys aren't being fair to him in terms of development and comparisons. Depends if people think the PG's main duty is to distribute or not. Rose is clearly a different kind of player, but IMO, will be the better overall bball player. His turnovers need alot of work and his jump shot needs to continue to improve, but if Rose can avg 8-9 APG, he will be VERY good.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) He won't make jack in Cleveland. Compared to NYC and Chicago, Cleveland doesn't get him much endorsement money. Cleveland does have better corned beef though. Seriously.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Rose also didn't have the benefit of anyone worth a damn offensively this season though. I don't think he's taking more shots, and less quality shots, by choice. I was just going to add something like that, but you beat me to it. Rose still hasnt had anyone he can really lean on to distribute to. The closest he's had in his career is probably Gordon when Rose was a rookie. With someone like Boozer and possibly an actual shooter, I see his assist numbers taking a nice jump.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Deron averaged 10.5 assists to Rose's 6. That is a dramatic difference. Williams is also a much better shooter than Rose. 80% FT, 37% 3pt to 77% and 27% for Rose. Not to mention the fact that Williams TS% is .574 and Rose TS% is only at .532. Rose has a higher shooting percentage because he takes less jump shots, he isn't a better shooter. At this point in time Rose is a mediocre passer and distributor and I haven't seen him excel at running the pick and roll. He can score and likely at some point will surpass Williams in that area but he isn't even close to DWill when it comes to running the show. And he hasn't been close to the best player on the court in the playoff games he's played in. LeBron was by far and away the best player in that series this year. Well, of course LeBron is a better player, but Rose was right up there this year, and was the dominant player in the playoffs last year. I watched him clown Rondo a few times this year in person, and thats the guy ESPN cant stop knobbing. Fair enough on the pure PG stuff, still think at this point in their careers, Rose is the more dynamic player as a second year guy dropping those numbers.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) It's more than assists and points. Most NBA people will tell you that Williams is a tier 1 PG with Chris Paul. And they're pretty much right. Derrick Rose is in that second tier right now, albeit a high second tier. WARP shows this, Williams was worth 13.2 WARP last year, Rose was worth around 5.5. Williams also created 10 more wins than Rose did last year. Thanks, finally some actual info. I agree that as far as being a pure PG, Williams is further along at this point than Rose is, but I see that closing the gap shortly, with Rose still being the superior scorer. Turnovers is def something he must improve.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Rock, do you know what a jump shot is? Yes, I'll drop them on you all day.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) I wouldn't say that... Deron's here. Rose is here. How so? Give me something to actually point out why everyone thinks they are so far apart. Frankly, I am surprised of the lack of appreciation for Rose on a chicago board. In the two years he's been in the league, he's been the best player on his team and basically the best player on the court in the playoff games he's played in. D Rose is 1st in scoring, Williams is 5th D Rose is 5th in FG%, Williams is 12th D Rose is 9th in assists, Williams is 3rd They are nearly even in Rebounds
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) I have. He's not close to being Deron Williams. How so? Because he avg's 3 more assists than Rose does? D Rose is a much better scorer and actually already a shooter than Williams is.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Yup. And he's not Deron Williams. Exactly. Boozer will be just as good if not better on the Bulls. He doesnt have to be the leading scorer since Derrick already is. Boozer will not only get looks in the post, but will have a TON of easy buckets as Rose takes 2 guys to the hoop. So thankful we have a player like him.
