  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) We strongly matchup to some of the better teams the Athletics AA has fielded in recent years. That's saying something. We have a pretty dynamic offense down there with some good starting pitching. I cannot recall an offensively talented team in our system that would match up with this one since maybe in the 90's.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Time to move on. Yup, Im sure KW has a back up plan. The good news is that now other GM's see what we are willing to offer for a good player and may be proactively calling KW offering those players. You could probably get a good arm for nothing more than Richard and 2 lower level prospects.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) I've now been told by a doctor, multiple physical therapists and trainers that any press (bench, incline, decline, military) should only be done to the point where your upper arms are level from the shoulder - no lower. Lower increases risk of shoulder injuries dramtically, they say. Right, due to my shoulder issues from vball when I was younger, I aim for about a 90 degree angle of my elbow and then go back up. I will dip below that if I am loose, but wont go to my chest.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) I wonder what happened to Soto's HGH supplier? What, no more amazing offseason training programs that allows him to lose 20 pounds while hitting the ball 100 feet farther? I think he stole all of DLEE's food in the offseason.
  5. QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 22, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) There is nobody at Charlotte to get excited about, although I understand wanting to have some hope that somebody can help this floundering team. Face it, we're stuck with what we have. Hopefully the Sox will drastically improve at drafting and developing players. If not, the future is bleak. Our AA team is an extremely impressive array of talent, probably one of the best minor league teams we've ever had.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) I don't even really want him anymore. It's obvious this guy doesn't want to be a part of this organization, and the only way he will join is if we give in to his ridiculous contract commands. This guy is a tool. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cu...-csep22.article Screw him. Enjoy pitching for a loser team for the next 4 or so years. That never happened FYI, that was a made up scenario by a Cubs fan.
  7. Yes, an Ace is an Ace. Buehrle+Peavy+Danks=we will compete in this division for years.
  8. The good news is that Richard and Poreda have some value and its possible that one of them plus some low level spects could get us a pitcher without a long term contract, or one that is a little older than Peavy.
  9. I wonder if the Sox are going to continue to pursue this.
  10. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) This is what I'd prefer to do as well, but you figure if the White Sox are using him as trade bait they wouldn't want anything bad happening; such as him being shelled upon a promotion to the bigs. Right, let him keep on throwing partial no-hitters in AA and keep looking for another top of the rotation player or a young position guy. Its obvious that Richard and Poreda have some pretty good value.
  11. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) As White Sox fans know, we will be packaging for another attempt at a star in the future. KW hates keeping prospects in the system. I was happy they are shopping Poreda, I honestly think his value is at its peak right now and this is the time to move him before other clubs see he isnt more than a pen arm.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) That is his perogative. If I'm a 100M player, I'd like to stay in a league that I'm familiar with and pitch in the right park. Bottom line stats matter and when he becomes a FA a few years from now, that ERA and personal stats make a difference. I don't blame him one f***ing bit. I wish he would come to the Sox and I'd embrace him as being potentially the best pitcher in franchise history, but if he doesn't, I'm not going to spit on him and call him a little b****. Now if he didn't have a NTC and than b****ed, than its another story, but he got that NTC for a reason and it was to ensure if he was moved, he would be moving to a destination of his desire, just like if he was a FA, he could control going to a place him and his family wanted to go. And I do think he probably accepts a deal to the Angels if they put together the right package, but nothing ever got that far. So if you were a player you would much rather stay in the easier league where you KNOW you could continue to pitch the way you have instead of trying your hand at the better circuit and the uncertainty that it holds? Those are the same people that still work in the basement of a building making base salary plugging away at spreadsheets for 40 years. And he's still a scared b**** to me. The Cubs had zero ability to pick up his option, but he wanted to go there because the NL Central is terrible. He wants the easy road, and that to me is someone who is pussified.
  13. Maybe by tomorrow we'll be picking up his option.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Why is Peavy a b****? Huh, the man signed a contract to stay with a club and to ensure that he put a no trade clause in place. The guy is one of the premiere picthers in the game, why shouldn't he have a say on where he plays. If he were a free agent, he'd fully have every say in the world so why should he, who signed what was a below market value deal at the time, not have the right to ensure that if the team he wanted to play for decided to trade him that he'd at least be able to dictate where he goes. Every player has preferences and Peavy is a f***ing all star, he has every right to accept or decline a trade, period, end of story. Buehrle signed a home town deal to and to ensure the club couldn't just trade him he put in a NTC and if the Sox wanted to trade Mark than its there job to accomadate him while getting value, not Buehrle's job to bend over and play Mr. Nice guy, he was Mr. Nice guy signing the discount deal. Look I want this to go through as much of the next guy but bottom line its Peavy's right and he earned that by his production, which earned him that clause in the contract. Even if there was only one team he wanted to play for, you know what, that is his f***ing right. Because he is scared to pitch in the AL, thus making him a p**** regardless of his location. He could have gone to Anaheim, but the AL made him have night terrors.
  15. Why is it you would have to "pursuade" a player to get traded to a good franchise that actually WANTS you for the long term. s***, one of his good friends plays here, and that still did nothing.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) They had absolutely no chance of getting a deal done without picking up that option. If they went into this thinking Peavy would make any concessions then they were fooling themselves. It really is a shame this got leaked because it was never going to get done in the first place. There was obviously some thought on that point, and something else had to of come up to kill this deal. There is no way KW and JR went into it thinking they were going to get him cheap.
  17. QUOTE (almagest @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Yeah, I don't see how one of Peavy's preferences will magically find prospects and/or money by July. Also Ken Rosenthal is pretty retarded for saying the White Sox deal was worse than the Cubs. Peavy is going to stay in SD and financially cripple his club because A. He's too much of a p**** to pitch in the AL B. He's holding out for these teams he wants to play for that dont have the players or money to take him on. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him like it is.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) Interesting column, blaming the Padres, not Peavy, for the situation. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9598700...-served-to-wait And bashing the Sox and slurping the Cubs. Guess what people, the Cubs are in a worse position than us to win over the next 5 years, their roster is old, overpaid and they have ZERO farm talent.
  19. He wants to play for these NL teams that dont have the players or money to pull of a deal with his team, in essence he's half retarded.
  20. Heyman reports deal is dead. Peavy will talk to media in 30 min. Sox wouldnt pick up the option.
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Haha. Why? I personally don't like his snide comments about the team he is covering. Cowley is somewhat of a joke in many sports writers circles.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Well, not going to take Cowley's word for it just yet... But this doesn't kill me. I would have liked to have him in a selfish way, but I do agree with many that this deal very likely could have spelled trouble down the road... If still waiting on Heyman, he's much more connected to this than Cowley. Cowley isnt even allowed in the Sox locker room.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) I honestly believe Peavy believes the Braves or Cubs will trade for him. He will continue to be a coward until he can go to those teams. At least this saves someone from calling him the White Javy. They simply dont have the player to entice the Pads and dont have the money to guarantee him those years. He is SOL.
  24. So we wouldnt pick up that option? What team would? The Cubs new ownership sure as s*** wont, nor do they have the pieces, the Brewers dont have the money, either does Atl. Where the f*** do you think you are going Mr Peavy
