  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) you can make up so much ground if you have a quality catcher in fantasy. Molina was awesome up until the last 2 weeks, but I have Posada on my bench who is ready to come off the DL for next week. I have Mauer.
  2. NBA and not even close. They invented the superstar call, the coach's complaint, and the flop.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Cain is a name I threw out when the Peavy stuff started dying down and this is a name that I love. He's having the best season of his career, is still very young, and at least has the stuff to really excel in the AL. The big questions are the price it would take to get him (the Giants are looking for bats that they can put in there lineup today and I don't know if the Sox have those guys so I'd assume a 3rd team, looking to sell a big name bat, would be involved). I just know that I am a big Cain fan and think he'd be an excellent addition to go along side Buehrle/Danks/Floyd/Richard. It would cost at least Beckham and another impact spect, because thats what I would be asking for Danks
  4. Guys, come on. If you were a team, wouldnt you want to build around two top of the rotation type pitchers like Lincecum and Cain? What would you take in trade for John Danks? Start there and see if someone like Nix or Getz would be able to grab Danks from you.
  5. QUOTE (Special K @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) I heard on the Score 670 yesterday during Mike Murphy's show when he had a beat reporter for the Sun Times on air, that the KW is pursuing Matt Cain pretty hard. Im not trying to start any rumors or anything, I just wanted to know if anyone has heard any truth to this and possibly get a little feedback. SF reporters have repeatedly said that SF is not dangling Matt Cain, and that the only thing SF needs is a young inpact bat, which we dont want to give up anyway. Not a good rumor or match.
  6. I mean, the kid is what, 6'4", plays a plus CF and hits for avg and some pop? There hasnt been many of those in our system.
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) He didn't HAVE to make either of those moves. He chose to. And he'll likely be fired because of it, which won't shock me. SO you are saying you think DT is going to be fired after taking the Hawks to the conference finals after probably the largest franchise turnaround in sports history?
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Ugh, you are unfortunately correct. Ugh.
  9. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) yes, its the umps decision. I believe its the home team's call.
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) I predict CQ to the 15 day DL. The Sox will bring Wise up. Thats too many LH bats. Im guessing they bring up a righty.
  11. Josh would have had 3 hits with a HR last night if it was in our park. That oppo shot he hit would be out of alot of park, Anaheim's doesnt carry well at night, especially to center.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Ichiro's swing is much more of a fall/fade away swing than it is taking steps up in the batter's box. Ichiro's body falls towards first base on his swings, even if he does that weird little crossover step type thing, where as Pods is taking two small steps up in the box. Right, PODS is just taking two small shuffle steps. Part of his problem at the plate has always been his balance ie: getting his front foot on the ground quickly, and a level swing plane. His shuffle somehow forces him to plant his feet and also to level off the bat. Its a pretty good exercise at home if you want to try it. Some of us will lead with our hips when we hit, I do this alot when I golf. Now try it with the two small shuffles very quickly, see how it keeps your shoulders back and level?
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 26, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) But at least he will be on base for sure. I saw the game on TV last night and Pods was tuned in for sure and looked really good with that bat crow hopping or not It was a crow hop against Toronto, but now he basically just shuffles his feet twice. It really makes him focus on putting that front leg down and staying level with the bat. It seems to be working when he has the timing down of a pitcher.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) For all intents and purposes you could be right, but bottom line, not resigning Crede, trading Swisher, and moving Javier all had an impact in the Sox getting Dayan. Since I feel we got excellent value for Javier (he's pitching great in Atlanta, but the Sox got very talented prospects in return, how they produce at the ML level, jury is out there, but three guys with major league talent) and were never going to resign Crede it's pretty easy to put Viciedo in as part of the Swisher deal and right now, Viciedo would have a higher trade value than Swisher. So ya, I'm ok with the deal. Would have liked the Sox to have gotten one solid piece out of the trade but I'm glad they freed up the payroll. I agree with you here. BY the end of the season the Yanks will probably be looking to move Swish and will get less than we did. Out of all of those deals I feel the Sox moved some pieces closer to where they believe their next core will be built, I think that is a pretty good philosophy.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) Yeah, but when compared to Campbell's, his is practically nothing. We're talking $11 mill remaining vs. $42.6. Honestly, it's been nice to see the kids come together... but everytime DT has dipped into FA he's made colossal mistakes. He HAD to make those moves however because they needed a D man like Campbell and they needed a long term solution at Goalie since khabby is older and will be asking for money. I just wish we could have developed both internally, at least an impact netminder.
  16. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 24, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) So I finished 127 of 3500 runners in the Mad City Marathon. 92 minutes was pretty good for me. Tough, hilly course, too, and my reward: nickel-sized blood blister on my right big toe. Nice work maggs!!!
  17. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ May 24, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) You have to be motivated. If you don't have anything in your head that keeps you going and makes you feel guilty if you break your diet then you're screwed. About 8 weeks ago i finally realized that I was sick of being overweight. I weighed 230 lbs and I wasn't comfortable with myself. I cut every drink out of my diet except for water. I have not eaten fast food since I've started, and when you eat make the portions smaller. In these 8 weeks i have lost 25 lbs, and I have 35 lbs to go until I reach 170, but I am feeling a lot better about myself. Knowing that what you're doing right now is the wrong way to live and that you don't want to live that way is a huge step forward. Use that as the motivation to start a diet. NIce work dude.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Were you reading the same game thread I was? For the first couple innings it was a mire of how bad everything on the team was, the whole team sucks, the world is falling apart, etc., etc. Thats every game thread ,and most of the time those people just need an outlet for their life frustration. Danks will be fine when he gets his shoulder back closed, he was flying open just like he did as a rookie yesterday. The good news is that when he used to do that, his ball was always elevated in the zone and very hittable, he has learned to at least keep it down a touch.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Scotty Pods is hitting .303. WTF? How long are opposing pitchers going to allow him to do his little mini-Ichiro step swing? He seems like he's reborn. Oh, but fire Walker, there's no way he had anything to do with that. I hope I don't need green for a few things up there. Theyve started to hit him to deter him from doing it, but that just puts him on base which is what he is trying to do anyway. Keep doing it until you get hurt and go on the DL for the rest of the season.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Huet is the lesser of two evils. Let's be real here. The guy had freaking 2 months off and they expect him to jump into the middle of a series against the Stanley Cup Champions and be a wall? I don't think so. It was bad luck that Khabibulin got injured. I'm no fan of having Huet the next 2 years at $5.65 million, but Campbell for another SIX years at $7.14 million? That's going to get in the way of keeping at least one player we really want to... Im not specifically talking about that game, I am talking about him in general. He has a giant hole that EVERYONE knows about. Both of their contracts make me want to puke actually.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 25, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) It's not exactly a club, it's a section of their pool they turn into a party area on Sunday afternoons. It's alot of fun. Yeah, there is nothing really not "classy" about it. Its a sweet party. Drinking all night+rehab+sun+drinks=dehydration. They face tons of these cases a day at that place, there is actually a TV show on the staff.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) I held off as long as I could. Brian Campbell is our Alfonso Soriano. What is Huet for us then? Alot of good teams have 2 productive goalies making less combined than Huet is going to make a year.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) Cubs fans clamoring for Josh Vitters. "He can't be worse than what we have now." Almost as dumb as Sox fans who want Beckham up. God damn I'm glad fans in no way shape or form have a say so in how a club is run. Except Beckham is in AA and Vitters is in LOW A
  24. And it looks like Brett Wallace is on the fast track to the bigs.
  25. QUOTE (tommy @ May 26, 2009 -> 02:26 AM) Vitters number one? He's in low A, thats a bold statement. Its just a hot sheet, who is hot right now. I will say if they keep him down there and he keeps his numbers up, the Cubs may con someone into paying a big price for him. The Cubs should have really moved him up by now.
