QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) His walk numbers were MacDougal-esque. I don't know if that would have changed with a defined role or not, but they were over 6.5 per nine innings pitched. That is just scary. Coop fixed him in ONE side session. He had a mechanical flaw that they saw when they scouted him and they basically fixed him in one day. I'm not sure it was role-based as much as the guy was never shown how to pitch to his style.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) He'd hit if he played more. Its not easy when you are getting 19 AB a month. As a lefty that is. He still didnt bring his glove to the ballpark. -
And the crap goes on, insults, call outs, prayers. I am excited to watch this thread sink to the bottom when the teams wins tonight.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) I don't even care about that. Give him away for absolutely nothing. The kid deserves a chance to play and if Ozzie won't start him in the sorriest CF situation in all of baseball then Ozzie & Kenny need to f*** off already and give him a chance elsewhere. If the Sox have believed since 2006 that Rob Mackowiak, Darin Erstad, DeWayne Wise, Jerry Owens, and Scott Podsednik were all better CF options than BA then get BA out of here and run out grinder du jour for the next two seasons for all I care since they're just going to do it anyway. Are you saying you care more about Brian than the actual success of the team? BA is a decent starting CF'er and a GOOD 4th OF'er, how can you sit there and say how good he is, but then want him to contribute for another team? It makes zero sense.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) The thing i don't get is BA has had about 3 good weeks since 2006 and everybody loves him yet Fields has 3 bad weeks and everybody wants to run him out of town. Fields had a slump, 5 for 45, but otherwise has hit a very respectable .285. Many players better than Fields have had longer slumps. Anderson has had a 3 year slump and he supposed to be out there every day . Welcome to Soxtalk. Just take a look at game threads and see a player that is be called to be DFA'd moved to idol status in 1 page.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) I would be more than willing to deal Slayer for Haren....how many other countless "can't miss prospects" have we dealt away and have not developed?? Not saying he won't but I would much rather have a proven player. Luckily the organization feels differently than you and has already said they wouldnt have even dealt Becks straight up for Peavy.

So if we lose tonight and BA is in the lineup, what will the next thread topic be? Trade for a starter? Clayton Richard is not a starting pitcher? Maybe Jenks blows a save and its Trade Bobby Now?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) I hope you are right - I hope TCQ returns soon and Wise is released. I'd rather have any number of our AAA and AA outfielders be next in line over Wise, because Wise has proven he can't play at this level. Some of the other guys haven't proven it yet, and their worst case is to be DeWayne Wise anyway, but with a chance to be better. There isnt a "hope." When Quentin gets back, Wise is gone. And then all the crybabies on here will have to find something else to dwell on any time the team loses.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) You call wanting to see the best team on the field pouting? Okay. I'll take it, I guess. And I know I'm probably one of the few who want Ozzie gone, and that's fine. Make a thread about Fields being on the field instead of Wilson Betemit last night and I'll believe thats the case.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) My wanting Ozzie gone is more based on the passed 3 years of mis-managing. This is just the icing on the cake. And how has Wise shown he's even a marginal player? He hasn't done anything. I don't care if its only been 29 ABs. Brian absolutely deserves to be playing over him. Now, if we had another person who could play CF and hit better than Brian, then I'd be 100% behind him starting. But we don't. Brian is our best possible CFer, period. That's the facts. PAST 3 years of mismanaging huh? And who would you like as the replacement, please enlighten us oh wise baseball fan sitting at home on your couch. BA hasnt played in 2 games, he's had the flu, Wise is only up for a short period of time=your posts are going to look pretty f-ing stupid at that point arent they?
-
QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) For all of you who laughed when we said Wise would be starting/playing over BA.. HA! Ozzie is an idiot, and I want him fired after the season. The Ozzie Guillen experiment should be over. Fail. You can want whatever you want, but its not going to happen. And Wise will be in AAA in a few days with BA starting everyday again and you will still be there pouting about something else.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) Someone else brought up Jordan in terms of class, and another person called Jordan classless. After that it was called "the worst post in the history of Soxtalk", even though Jordan has done many, way less classy things than LeBron has. Plus after googling, Kerr wasn't the only teammate punched by Jordan. Will Purdue got a shot, as did Larry Krystowiak. And yes to me, punching multiple teammates (or even one) is worse sportsmanship than not shaking hands after losing. Punching teammates at practice when they made up afterwards is more classless than not having sportsmanship on the court? That seems a bit backwards to me. LeBron's act is alot like the act of Thomas and company when they walked off after the Bulls beat the Pistons in the playoffs, I would put LeBron on about the same level at Isiah Thomas as far as class at the moment. -
Pretty good shot there at JEsus de Jose de Leon or whatever his name is.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) How it would suck to have Milton on your team...yeesh. Made of glass, bad clubhouse guy, plays zero defense.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) One misconception, IMO, is that having a hitch is bad. Look at Babe Ruth. He had quite actually a big hitch. However, his hitch wasn't really wasted movement like Fields' is, and was used as a timing mechanism and something to help him get his bat cocked and ready. I know it's a bad example because it is Babe Ruth, and his style could never be duplicated, but there have been other great hitters with hitches. Lou Gehrig had one I believe, and Jimmie Foxx had a huge hitch. In fact, most hitters likely have a hitch. It's just a matter of how big and if it is detrimental or not. Gordon Beckham has a fairly large hitch that he put in his swing after he left Georgia, its actually made him better.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Yeah, maybe at the pro level it is just as hard. But at a recreational level, it's much harder. I can put up 15 points in an intramural basketball game or score a couple TD's in a football game a lot easier than I can shoot a good score in a round of golf with some buddies. I think most people would be that way. I've literally spent 10 years or so just to get my handicap below 20. -
Milton Bradley pulled up lame running to first, then went straight into the clubhouse. Here comes a DL visit. I am guessing hammy strain, 15 day DL

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I doubt Beckham is on the big league team that soon, more like at the earliest a month and a half from now I think you'll see him on this homestand.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Very good points. I particularly like the last one. Golf is absolutely a sport and a very difficult one at that. It's so hard to be consistent where one little thing can completely mess up a shot. I wish I had seen this earlier b/c I would have backed you up, but you said it pretty well. Golf is more difficult to play than any of the major sports. I wonder how many golfers are on this site? it might be cool to have a Soxtalk Open at a local course one of these days. -

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Does anyone have ESPN Insider? What is this nonsense "Cutler, Marshall to reunite in CHI" that they are teasing? I am, where are you seeing that? Edit: Just a rumor based on the Trib article by David Haugh. Nothing much to it. -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) I currently drive a '93 taurus. I was driving an '87 taurus until it died in November. Nice, what color? Mine was Maroon. It was one of the first cars with climate control I remember, and it totally broke and could only pump out air at one speed, high. The best part about it in HS, the bench front seat.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Add: Waving, while on the phone, trying to show someone across the ballpark where they are sitting. Happened to me at the last game. Jackassery. It may be an asshole thing to do, but I yell at those people, its not really that difficult to wait between batters. There are still parks around the country that make you wait, but they are rare. They do it at hockey games, why not still at baseball games?
