I dont understand how people can be packing it in for the season when we are 5 games out. If we are still this far out going into the last week of the season I will still have hope we make the playoffs. Once you are in, anything can happen as evidenced by the Cards a few years ago.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) You played volleyball when you were younger? I'm 19, played all my life, and my shoulder is an absolute wreck. Oh yeah, i still play competitively now, but the strain of playing year round and in tourney's like JO's where you played tons of matches a day completely destroyed my shoulder. I will say though that i played at a high enough level that I played with a few national champs and even a couple of olympians before I stopped my rise. Now I am pretty much just a good setter that can block, I stay far away from swinging more than 10-15 times a match.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Jose had no forkball before he got demoted. Thus, he was basically a one pitch pitcher to lefties and they were destroying him. It also looks like he's gained a mph on his fastball, which can't hurt. He had zero of his feel pitches, his timing was terrible and he had no control. Symptoms of a player who came back too soon from an injury. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) i'm sick of your high horse as well. no, we wouldn't b**** if they didn't sign him. the mets tried it and he was a bust. High horse or reality? Anything this org does is second guessed on this negative site everyday. If the Tigers went out and signed Freddy to a minor league deal, there would be conniptions on this site.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) No, he just gets a little bit afraid of contact and starts nibbling...but I wouldn't say it's a lack of balls. Like most pitchers, it's 90% confidence in his stuff. He needed to prove to himself that he could go out and win a key game and be a "stopper" again. Completely false. You are saying his lack of feel for his pitches was mental and not the huge layoff from rehabbing a career threatening injury? Seriously, sometimes I wonder where people get this stuff. I especially like the use of a statistic there pointing at something you have looked at subjectively. -
QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) You are dreaming. It would be one thing if the guys who know how to hit were just cold. The problem is that the Sox are loaded with players who can't hit, and may never hit. Wise, Getz, Anderson, Fields, etc. When only three guys on the team are hitting above league average at their positions, you aren't going to see much more offense unless Kenny trades for some proven hitters. You just named 2 reserve players and at least one guy who is being replaced as examples of why the team has been slipping a little. There is so much time left in this season its not even funny.

LOL overreactions of the century. The guy signed a f***ing minor league deal you whiny b****es. If the Sox DIDNT sign him you would all be b****ing that we didnt take a flier on a guy. Ridiculous how terrible the posts have gotten in this forum.

QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) I was watching game 5 vs the Halos, on MLB the other day. I forgot how good the count was and was just glued to the TV. Maybe getting sent down woke him up. Or maybe the guy is such a f***ing gamer he hurried back from what many of us thought was a career ending injury so he could play for this team again which led to a small mechanical flaw and a lack of feel pitches. Or maybe he just doesnt have balls like alot of the people on here say about Floyd....at least when he is losing. -

I didnt even notice until today that Aaron Craft committed to the buckeyes for 2010. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Frank Thomas put on about 45-50 lbs from 1990-1993. Michael Jordan put on about 40 lbs of lean muscle. Check out how much weight Thome put on. Its not impossible that Sosa is clean. Come on, are you really making the comparison to a guy like Frank Thomas? Come on, I understand its fun to be on the other side of the concensus and all, but Sammy is a roider, and he definately dabbled in HGH to make his head as big as it got. He and McGuire may have brought baseball back, but they both did it while completely blown up on PED's.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) Someone getting bigger isn't evidence, there are ways to bulk up naturally.... And yes, I do think he most likely used roids of some sorts, but if all my proof is he got bigger that most certainly isn't enough. its not like he gained some muscle, the guy got HUGE. His head grew 5 sizes. Come on. The proof is in reality that he is one of the most obvious juicers in baseball.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) From what I have heard, Canseco admitted he has no evidence at all to accuse Sosa of being on roids, while with others he has accused he had direct information or 2nd hand information that he considered reliable. Im sorry, I dont make someone guilty because Canseco thinks he does without any sources or knowledge of seeing it himself. How about your own eyeballs? Do you trust those?
-
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) There isnt as much evidence against Sosa I think to keep him out of the HOF. Even in Canseco's book, he just mentioned its a possibility that Sosa used roids but he didnt have any actual proof to back it up of any sort. I could go either way with Sammy, but I think if not first ballot I would eventually vote him in, while the evidence against Bonds/Mcguire/Palmiero/A-Rod are all too much for me ever to cast a vote their way. The evidence is right in front of your eyes though regardless of if he was stupid enough to get caught. Sosa juiced and he's one of the most obvious cases.
-
If you ranked hte most obvious beneficiaries of steroids in the steroid era you would probably go: 1. Bonds 2. McGuire 3. Sosa Thats what will keep him out.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) A blogger had the idea of a 3 way trade between the Sox, Padres and Cubs. Since Peavy would go to the Cubs, if you were KW, would you trade the same package, although if Broadway was involved, it would have to be tweaked, and get Zambrano instead? Zambrano just isnt that good of a pitcher in the AL, he's just not. We would have to give up Poreda or Richard and more, and I am not sure its worth it.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Unless there is something that nails him for steroid use, he has to be a first ballot guy. He won't be, and will probably have to wait a while, but you supposedly are innocent until proven guilty in this country, although if you played in the current era, you are quilty until proven innocent. The HOF is loaded with guys who used PED's. Maybe not steroids but other things. Thats means McGuire, Bonds, Palmeiro, etc will all get in, which I dont think will happen. Sosa cheated and got caught with a corked bat, and he is one of the more obvious juicers in the game. I dont think he would get writer's votes, nor the vets.

Classic article in the trin today about his day yesterday. I thought I saw it at the game, but he confirmed it in the article that AJ was throwing him curves down to 3rd after strikeouts. I swear I saw Becks through Buehrle a knuckler back to the mound one of the times.

I will say this: He is by far the smallest guy on the field.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Thank God, I'm not the only one. Im watching season 3 on DVD right now, I have never seen this season before, its gotten me all geared up. Big brother is truly one of the only reality tv shows on tv. Its actual reality, not scripted like the other fake shows.

This is going to sound kind of weird, but I want the WR's to be somewhat submissive of Cutler, so that they look to him to tell them where to be, what he wants them to do etc. With someone like Plax, his personality would be much bigger on offense than Cutlers IMO. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) Everyone of our contributors from last year and were traded were replaced with people who just haven't done a thing. Whart do we have to show now for instance with the Swisher trade? Dayan Viciedo. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) A loss is a loss to me, but what is Kenny's fault is his preaching about speed and OBP and then building a roster that really doesn't fit that. I really thought they would be in first place at the end of this homestand. They still might, but 3 out of 4 lost to Oakland at home is demoralizing. They do have quite a bit of speed on the team, only AJ, Thome, Kong and Dye could be considered slow, that leaves 5/9 guys in the lineup with some good legs. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Tyler is at the very least a slightly taller, better shooting version of Udonis Haslem. He shouldn't be considered a top 5 pick, but he's a guy that could start next to a dominant center like Dwight Howard and be a nice contributor or come off the bench as an energy guy. In other words, he's a role player, the same type of guy you can find in undrafted free agent pools. -
