  1. QUOTE(S720 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) Fathom, after reading the article, do you sense it as much as I am that we are witnessing the beginning of the sell-off (salary dump)? And it will be gradually. I truly hope that I am wrong! the article tells me kenny williams is an intelligent man...it means that in an ever increasingly ridiculous market, you must fill certain spots with guys who will be as productive as a guy like garcia(mccarthy) internally for cheap. its nothing billy beane hasnt been doing in the recent past
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) Neal's problem was all mechanics last year. just outa curiosity....how do you know?
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Arrogance....but at least we'll have Sandy's veteran leadership behind home plate. whats the over under on how many fewer SBs we give up cuz of this trade? 30? 40?
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) I doubt that, but we still seem set to finish behind the Tigers and Twins again. i agree with fathom.....they are gonna be legit
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) Keith, what are we going to use the 10 mill on though? That was off the books next year anyways and right now there is absolutely nothing to make this team better in the free agent market. the 10 million can be used for a trade, or through free agency, likely a trade....just dont forget KW turned the 10 mil he saved from dealing carlos lee into iguchi AJ and el duque.....im not sayin hes gonna get that much in this market, but still 10 mil helps a ton to add parts
  6. in offseason between 04 and 05 floyd was ranked as phillys #2 prospect behind ryan howard and ahead of hammels.... the year before he was behind hammels but ahead of howard....
  7. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) WHAT A f***IN rip off!!!!!! Pathetic. I hope you Garcia haters are happy now. im holding off judgement for now to see what KW does with the extra 10 mil. and prospects ....cuz i really think this is just the first piece of something much bigger
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) Gavin Floyd is 23 years old and is no longer considered a top prospect. so is mccarthy....
  9. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) Could one or both go to the Yankees for A- Rod? id be willing to bet that one of these guys is dealt for something else
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) So is Gio the new Gary Majewski? antonio osuna
  11. a few things.....this saves us 10 million, and floyd and gio become our #1 and #2 pitching prospects, but i think we coulda more...like a major league ready reliever....but to me this trade reeks of more trades to come....williams acquiring young pitching to trade for other parts
  12. can't wait either.....im hopin price goes 1
  13. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) John Delcos of The Journal News says Rich Harden's name is coming up more in talks between the A's and Mets than Joe Blanton's and that a package of Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman and Philip Humber could get a deal done. From Roto: What would it take for the sox to get those 3? a guy with the upside of harden.....which we dont have
  14. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) This is such crap...I won't even dignify this trash with any analyis on why Bonds would be a horrific acqusition for the Sox. i hate bonds, but in our tiny park compared to SBC, and with his obp batting in front thome konerko and dye, we'd score an awful lot of runs, for absolute certain sell out every game that he gets close to that record, and probably sell alot more tix, get alot more people watching on tv....my personal feelings aside for bonds, I wouldn't mind him too much, because he would be good for the team for a year or two. as for his agents relationship with upper management i have no idea, except that they wanted him back in 95 and asked thomas who hed rather have protecting him, belle or bonds and he picked belle.
  15. QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) how about Jack Cust? dude hit 30 HR and 140 BB in AAA. about the same defense as pods. ha ha. haha seems like cust's name has been thrown out in connectino with the white sox for years....i remember when he was supposed to be dealt for rowand ill always remember him for having the absolute worst base running play ive ever seen with the Os a few years ago....
  16. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) This is the smartest thing said on these boards in a long while. yeah no kidding....guys....we just signed pods for 1 year at 2.9....juan pierre got 5 years 50 mil. and whats the difference in the two? They had exactly the same obp, and pods was 40 of 59 in SBs, while pierre was 58 of 78....so a slightly better stolen base ratio....while i understand the desire to upgrade...this is still a bargain deal for a guy who will still give some production
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Any update on this? I won't read 27 pages. nothin

  19. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Here we go... summary of angels beat writer on with murph... it has def. been discussed according to the beat writer....sox are def. willing to deal crede, but they dont need to.....sox also asked for santana, but angels said they need pitching to get pitching, so talks extended to garcia......he also said those wouldnt be the only 4 players involved, kinda sounded like prospects would be involved one way or the otehr........says figgins is best suit at 2b, but has a good arm and can play OF well enough for a guy who hasnt played there much...says the angels like him at 3b, and will play him there everday if they cant get a power guy.......says hes not a bonafide leadoff guy based on last year, but based on the year before he was....about santana he says.....angels have put high price on santana, but will trade bc everyone wants young pitching.... says both GMs arent content with the trade as it is, so something else will have to be in place....says the name have been discussed for a couple of months....
  20. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) What time is Murph having this beat reporter on at? im not sure, he mentioned hed be on in the 1 oclock hour, but i havent heard anything about it since
  21. murph is gonna have teh angels beat reporter on who apparently also has been hearing rumors of this deal...
  22. theres almost no doubt in my mind that if this trade goes through...theres another deal on the horizon...maybe its buerhle +broadway for arod or mccarthy for crawford....but if this deal happens we still have 6 starting pitchers, and if deal buerhle, we have 5 starters all locked up for 2-3 years
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Personally I think Tejada is overvalued and Crede is undervalued but that's just me, and I'm sure most baseball people probably wouldn't agree with that sentiment. But Joe will be in line for a Tejada like deal when he hits FA, if he keeps improving offensively. credes power last year probably isnt a mirage, he is probably good for 28ish homers for the next few years, and while he did improve his contact, that didnt translate to more walks...his .323 OBP is still pretty bad, and alot of that was average driven.....that said hes still real cheap, and plays great D, but with boras as his agent hell make a ton when he hits free agency, more than we should resign him for...so why not get something for him now, when his stock is probably as high as it will be.
