  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) Down goes Florida at Vanderbilt. yes sir
  2. theres no doubt danks has fantastic make up...im sure its part of the reason they tried hard to get his younger brother to break his commitment from texas. he's got all the goods to be a good major league player for awhile
  3. i like the signing but im very confused as to how he fits in if at all.... If you ask me, i think ozuna may become expendible, but i have no idea. he really isnt even the second option at any position now, (maybe third, but with mack not playing CF i think we'll see alot of him at 3rd in ST) ....his speed is difficult to replace but maybe management was impressed by cintron's ability to swipe a bag? plus erstad's a decent base runner. management has also said though that they want to go with OBP instead of speed, which is a good idea with the thunder in our lineup. I love pablo, but perez honestly adds more with his bat than ozuna does with his legs, so i think it makes most sense for pablo to go....besides if someone goes down later on in the year, speed guys can be found (ie owens maybe even sweeney)...guys who can hit lefties like perez are harder to find.
  4. the vazquez stuff is legit...easily had the best peripherals of any of our pitchers last year, and toward the end of the year his ERA and success started to reflect taht more and more....im glad we dumped freddy isntead of him, but i know im in the minority on that one
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Actually its called baiting dumb cub fans to put a lot of money on the cubs to win it all. its also called playing in an absolute joke of a division...they have as good a shot to win their division as teh sox do teh AL central which is a joke....then the rest of the path to the series isnt nearly as hard in the AL. its the same with the bears....if they arent the favorite to win it all, then the odds are flawed IMO
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) He shouldn't be an every down, every drive, or even every quarter type of player, but when you are playing as mediocrely as the Bears were last night, they should have just tried to get him in on a reverse or a quick screen or split backs or some such feat. His presence alone - even as dumb as he is when not returning kicks - scares the other team. yeah i feel like he can learn 3 or 4 plays, just as wrinkles to break out. i think we will see it in teh future, i do realize hes a dope and cant learn teh playbook, but he should be able to manage a screen or reverse just like you said
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) Most teams don't touch Manning. I don't exactly fault our D for that. i fault the front four and coaching staff for not adjusting to the team they were playing. The bears defense is predicated on getting pressure from teh front four. They have to disrupt the opposing QB, because if they dont, he will have time to find the soft spots in teh zone and/or dump the ball off. Watch the replay, the bears forced mannign to make 1 bad throw all game. all the rest of his throws were easy. The solution is to blitz more to get pressure, somethign the bears rarely do. If i learned anything from this game its that you need to be versatile in teh NFL. You must scheme for the otehr team when you play a team the calibur of the colts. The colts game planned by running right at the bear LBs. The stretch play teh colts run all the time, they hardly used. They werent going to let the Bears LBs run side to side, because thats a game the colts can't win. Instead they ran draw plays to get the LBs thinking pass, and dropping into coverage, creating holes in teh line with only 4 rushing. The bears tried to blitz early, but abandoned it after Danieal Manning's blown coverage on Wayne. The colts adjusted to the bears, and the bears thought they could walk in, play their own game and win. When you are missing the best DT in the league and a probowl safety, you can't walk in with Ian Scott and Chris Harris and not have a few suprises, because frankly without those 2 guys , the bears D doesn't have the talent to beat the best offense in the league playing straight up. I also am extremely disappointed in Lovie and Turner for not incorporating Hester into offense this year. They used him one time against TB and tried to throw a quick slant that didnt work, and that was it. The guy is simply a special, special player and his ability in the open field is unparalleled. They really blew an opportunity to at least use him to draw attention away from teh defense, and I am disappointed in that. This team simply played too Vanilla against the best team in the league and honestly got dominated. Hester scored 10 of the 17 teams points (the TD and simply his presence giving the bears great field positioning after teh colts penalty leading to the FG), because the D couldnt keep the colts off teh field, and when they managed to the offense gave it right back. The bears got outcoached in this one badly.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) I really don't think the Steelers would go for that. haha...maybe if the sox threw in ben gordon they would
  9. pretty suprised traceys all the way down at 26

    Depth

    god i hope backup right handed outfield depth is our biggest concern
  11. everything can vary...it depends on how where you stay, the stadium if i remember correctly is a good half hour or so from teh airport, maybe a little more. the flight just depends on the airline and when you book it , but i would think you could find a hotel for around 80 a night or so...but obviously that can vary as well. tickets are real cheap...the cheapest ones are usually like 6 dollars for the out field grass or so and the most expensive are like 15 maybe, which are generally under shade and behind the plate.
  12. as long as he does to joe mauer and victor martinez what he did to johnny estrada..ill be ok with this... Its on the June 6th highlights.... http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/NASApp/ml...a&ym=200506
  13. Yes. Yes. You know what's interesting. The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons is Bobby Hebert. No "r" which I find fascinating. You know it's Herbert h-e-r-b-e-r-t, Hebert h-e-b-e-r-t. "Hebert" it's a fun name to pronounce. Try and say it Hebert. Take a shot. All right.

    QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Yeah. Jon Rauch Jason Grilli Gary Majewski Kip Wells Keith Foulke Bobby Howry Scott Eyre All of them washed up former White Sox prospects, and, while I'm too lazy to look, I'm just going to assume that none of them are in the big leagues any more. you can't complain about what foulke or howry ended up giving us though
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) Detroit easily, and Cleveland is likely to have a more consistent starting 5. It's shocking how much confidence some people have in either Floyd or Haeger. I'll be shocked if Floyd could have less than a 6 ERA in the AL in 2007. boston will be better also i think, or at least close with schilling dice k beckett papelbon and wakefield. Regardless....doesnt sox talk have a front page basically saying what this entire thread is about?
  16. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) Two pages in and Jose Paniagua has yet to be mentioned. As for my favorite moments, I chose these mainly because I was there: Chris Singleton's cycle, Jose Valentin's cycle, the crowd before game 1 against Boston(The crowd at the Cell has never been louder, not even during the WS), game 2 vs. Anaheim with AJP making history and Carlos Lee's walk-off GS against the Cubs(Also my only time ever being in a box). the thing about paniagua...was that he never blew the game....we were up like 6 and the twins cut it to 2 or 1, and then went on a roll shortly there afterward at the expense of the sox...i believe the next series culminated with valentin dropping the pop foul, which was mentioned.... the july 4th game was terrible, goddamn carl crawford...so were the games when we blew leads to the Royals in the first series of the year....like mendy lopez the day i was most embarassed to be a sox fan was the mike cameron 4 HR game when he and boone went back to back twice....in the first inning alone....what was the final like 16-0? that was horrid Best moments: carlos lees walk off slam vs. teh cubs....valentins go ahead against the cubs where he did the sammy kiss, AJ's Hr off dempster last year....Bo Jacksons HR in the 8th in 93 vs. the mariners,
  17. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) until we figure out who is the fifth starter and what that person will bring to the table i have to give the tigers the edge. Without liriano the twins arent even in the discussion. pretty well said right there.......dont completely discount the indians either....sabathia is always solid, sowers had the second best ERA in the second half of last year, westbrook has the potential to have a sub 3.5 ERA and lee and byrd can always give solid years...but for now its the tigers
  18. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) We are going to have to get some infield insurance, however. The Cubs seemed to sour on Ronny Cedeno-any thoughts? he is like uribe - the D and - the Power....so....no
  19. From Jim Callis on Baseball America...
  20. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) So after this, is the pitching sequence Buehrle, Contreras, Garland, Vasquez, then #5? floyd probably has the upper hand, but i wouldnt discount haeger
  21. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) This and Ozzie's silly contract that he negotiated and signed himself prove that athletes should just stick to being athletes and let agents negotiate their deals. Baldelli, like Ozzie, got hosed. Also, if a rapper (i.e. Master P) approaches you to handle your contract negotiations, just say "NO." He is the one that negotiated Ricky Williams' first contract with the Saints that basically would pay him market value if and only if he reached some unprecendented numbers for carries, yds, and TDs...all for a top 5 pick. WTF? i remember when baldelli was signed by the devil rays....most people actually blasted the Drays, at the time he signed it he had only 1 year in the bigs and was out with an injury. nobody really knew why tampa, a team that never spends money, was locking up a guy who was injured and barely had any big league experience.....even given Baldelli's considerable potential. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) I don't understand this Baldelli stuff, especially if Anderson is involved. While Baldelli is a solid all-around player, he has his own faults, including the proclivity to get injured, and his proneness to striking out. Given our offense, I would have to be receiving a lot more of a sure thing to consider moving Brian and pitching prospects. Now if you want to discuss Crawford, that is one thing, but Baldelli? I'm not going out of my way to get him at this point. Additionally, why would TB even want Anderson back? Isn't that the entire point of moving an OF? Because they have so many OF'ers? As for the Baldelli's worth against crawfords....quite honestly....everyone will prefer crawford, but dont sell baldelli short by any means....they are a month apart in age, both project to be about .300 hitters with average to below average discipline (ie .340ish obp). Baldelli will probably be a 27 HR 20 steal guy, while Crawford a 20 HR 50 steal guy, rocco has a stronger arm and plays center regularly (at least when not hurt). To me its really not so cut and dry, cuz baldelli will hit 7-10 more homers, but steal 30 or so fewer bases, which to me is a pretty fair trade off. Baldelli is also signed for longer i believe. I'm not sayin i wouldnt rather have crawford (especially if we are talkin about leadoff hitters) but I think baldelli is closer in worth to crawford than most think....remember when rocco came up, espn said he could be the next joe dimaggio....even as ridiculous of a statement as that is, you know the guy has to have talent really, the biggest difference in the two is health, where obviously i would prefer to have crawford also: i know he hasnt accomplished much in the bigs but Baldelli did hit .305 with 16 homers in 92 games last year, and he is still only a little over a year older than Anderson. Do you guys see Anderson doing that over a 92 game stretch this year?
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) Doesn't he now almost HAVE to unload Buehrle asap? Otherwise, I really don't understand the plan. 2 words....trade deadline
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Did Floyd beat your dog or something?! I'll give the sox scouts the benefit of the doubt. They've done well with other teams castoffs. yeah seriously....hes been posting crap about floyd ever since we got him, its a case of a guy from jersey whos seen floyds struggles personally and knows he has sucked so far so he will never give him a chance. i think all of sox nation did that for a while with garland and crede too. im not saying floyd will blossom like those guys did but to say that hes worthless is dumb, because i guarantee you if he was placed on waivers 29 other teams would scoop him up in a heartbeat
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Check the quote I just posted. don't get me wrong....im not a big fan of this trade either....but to assume that mccarthy got traded because of that quote is just stupid..
