Boers and Bersie have had the BEST stance on this topic and the most well thought out. Yes it might bring "civic pride" to N.O. if they win, but it will not rebuild the city. It will not bring back the "chocolate city" the mayor wants. They can say it far more equivalently than I can, but that is the jist of their comments.

I'm not asking him or anyone else in these parts to pull for the New Orleans Saints. I just want Bears fans to recognize the Saints as more than a football team. They are the symbol of a region that is still devastated from the irreparable wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, a team that can bring temporary joy and escape to a town but can't begin to change the sobering reality that the murder rate is staggering, half the population has fled and those who remain wonder whether they also should leave. People want New Orleans to feel good Sunday, which somehow makes the Bears the biggest bad guys out of this city since Al Capone.

It's very easy to not root for the Saints. The Bears represent everything that is good with Chicago. Does the awfulness that was Katrina make a 40 year old team trump a team with more history and tradition? I guess it does. I really hope Papa Bear is rolling over in his grave and talking to God to make it sleet on the visitor's side of the field only.

 

The Saints are a great story...worst-to-first is a great story no matter what. Add in Katrina and you get the emotional factor. But keep discounting the Bears, people...and they will bite you on the ass....

The hockey season was getting under way so of course I played it over and over (not thinking about anything but hockey when playing it). Of course a few people that were driving near me gave me funny looks - guess it didn't help I was wearing a Hurricanes hat at the same time. By the time it dawned on me why I was getting funny looks, I couldn't stop laughing.

I was going to question why in the world you'd wear a Hurricanes hat (I'm a Blackhawks fan, so why I would do that, I have NO idea.) Then I saw "Hartford? The Whale?" is your avatar, so you get some madd props in my book.

I thought that Tyson Chandler was sent to save New Orleans.

 

They must have been flooded with enthusiasm when they heard that he was on his way.
