QUOTE(quickman @ May 6, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) why would anyone give Iguchi a fastball, just keep pitching him offspeed stuff. he cannot hit offspeed actually the scouting report on iguchi coming from japan was that he cant catch a good fastball since the fastballs here are harder than in Japan, and that he was a good offspeed hitter

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 6, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Hillenbrand K's. Inning over. That's 56 pitches through 3 innings. I hope Duque gets it together soon because I really don't wanna see Cotts today. Could someone that's actually watching the game let me know how Duque's doing? From gameday, it seems pretty bad. who wants to start takin wagers on when konerko will finally get a hit?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) There is no doubt the schedule finally picks up this month as we leave the bad teams of the AL central behind, and start to pick up the problems that are the AL West. The nice thing is that even if we stumble, we have built in a nice 4 1/2 game cushion. I would tend to argue that this month could make us, but unless there is an absolute meltdown, it won't break us. One nice thing is that the Twins don't exactly have an easy schedule as they pretty close to mimic the teams that we are playing in May. They have 3 games with Baltimore, 3 with Texas, 6 with Toronto, 3 with Milwaukee, and 5 with Cleveland, and 3 with TB. Our schedule looks like 3 with Tor, 3 with TB, 4 with Bal, 6 with Tex, 3 with the Cubs, and 5 with the Angels. good point, but as hawk always says if you win within your division, youre gonna be in good shape. i wish we played the yankees early though while they are stuggling

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 4, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Carlos Lee may have a brother..... but..... Does Carlos Lee have a posse?? i always thought that it would have been baseballs all time theft if after the brewers deal little carlos showed up for the physical instead of el caballo...similarly as i recall teh sox had a similar problem a few years ago in i believe the antonio osuna trade with the dodgers, when they thoguht they were gettin some guy, and got someone else with the same last name instead

QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) First and foremost. BMAC He was even more dominant then the stats from last night say he was. Out of the 5 hits he allowed, 0 were extra base hits, 2 were jammed ducksnorts, and 2 were infield hits. He had 10 Ks, but many more outs were weak or off-balance swings. The Tides lineup had 5 guys htting .300 or more, and they have been the hottest offense in the IL, but McCarthy owned them. He attacked and went right at every hitter, getting ahead of the first 10 batters he faced, and 20 out of 28 overall. BMAC faced no more than 4 batters in any inning, and no Tide reached second against him. He K'd the side on 14 pitches in the 2nd inning. The last of the three was against Luis Garcia, and strike three was a gross curve that snapped down nearly into the dirt of the left handed batters box while Garcia took a massive cut about a foot and a half above the pitch and the home crowd litterally laughed in a "damn did you see that" reaction. McCarthy's heater, curve, and change were all equally nasty, and equally accurate, damn, damn impressive. He doubled up quite often, and quite effectively, with his straight change. Benji Gil K'd all three times vs BMAC, and on his 3rd try in the 8th inning, BMAC threw him changes on 4 of his last 5 pitches (in a 6 pitch AB). Gil weakly tapped foul the first change, and then a change for a ball, then a swing and miss at a change, then a ball with a fastball, and then a swinging strike three with another change. BMAC's fastball was 92-93 all night, including the 7th and 8th innings. Fields, Walker, and Smith fought through the ninth, but to be fair, the Tides were probably newly energized simply to see anyone but BMAC. Fields gave up a 2B and was pulled, Walker got a K, a PB, and a BB to make it corners and 1 out. Smith came in, and with the Norfolk catcher (Mike DiFelice) batting, got a 1-6-3 DP to end the game very dramatically. Offensively, there's not a whole lot to say, it was 1-0. Anderson was 1-3 with a 2B and a BB (his 2B was the hardest hit ball of the game on either team). Anderson also did very well in CF, he made a great diving catch in shallow LCF to end the 7th. He's deceptively fast out in CF and covers a lot of ground. Bikowski did a good job as a leadoff man, he was on base 2-4 and scored the only run in the 4th. He started the inning with a single, and then he and Martinez exectued a textbook hit and run as Martinez hit a sharp grounder right at where the shortstop should've been and Bikowski went to third. Greg Norton then hit into a 4-6-3 DP, scoring Bikowski. The Knights left 8 men on base in the next four innings, luckily BMAC was untouchable (everything about this game pretty much came back to BMAC.) thanks for the notes, much appreciated. btw what type of work were you doin there?

QUOTE(quickman @ May 6, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) This is an interesting topic. Two things will play out during this month. We will find out if good pitching beats good hitting. We will also find out if the Sox will break out of their collective hitting slump. Both actually need to happen if we want to prove ourselves out. In my opinion we cannot continue to win like yesterday, we need to hit the damn ball. it doesnt matter how you win, as long as you win, but teh fact of the matter is that those types of wins occur once or twice a year (unless you have marte and politte pitch in detroit) so yeah the O certainly needs to pick it up, because tonight toronto isnt gonna walk in 2 runs

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) I was having this discussion with a guy here at work, who reads here but never posts... The next 3 weeks we face teams that can hit the hell out of the ball. Honestly do we all think that we can hold the Jays,Rangers and O's to 2 or less runs per game? I don't they have better hitters than we have. So I think the rest of the month we see what we have this could break us or jsut further prove that the Sox are for real. But, in order for that to heppen..WE NEED to hit the f***ing ball, and more than 2 runs a game! Just a thought I see what the rest of yous thought.. carry on. there is absolutely no doubt that we need to hit. but the pitching has faced detroit who is a very good offensive team and came out just fine vs them. toronto's O is playing way over their head right now. The O's offense is overwhealming, and they are gonna give all sorts of pitching staffs problems, but i think if anyone can shut em down it could be us

QUOTE(ptatc @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) as I recall, didn't he write an article ripping the Sox for the off season? When you win eveybody can windsock. im trying to think, i know he wrote one at the end of last year saying that the sox werent gonna win the division, and i wrote him and b****ed about it, and then the sox proved him right. i know he wrote a few things this offseason about how the sox didnt make improvements, but i also think i remember seeing him say taht the iguchi signing could end up turning an eventful but average offseason into a decent one.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylc=X3o...0505104&prov=ap Keys to Contreras' success: 1.) Work quicker a la Buehrle. 2.) Challenge hitters by throwing strikes. Your stuff is good so trust it. 3.) Don't get flustered with men on base. working fast isnt for everyone. anyone who has pitched knows that when you are going bad, you cant push yourself to go fast, you have to find your rhythm first, then when you get locked in, then you can move fast. but if you are missing spots and hanging breaking balls, usually its better to not work fast and to take a step back. some guys simply can't work fast either, and i dont think working fast gives a big advantage, unless you define fast as throwing strikes then its an advantage. essentially, just stay in teh rhythm that you are comftorable with, whether its fast or slow, but just make sure its your pace and dont let teh hitter get you out of it

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) If I remember correctly, Tony G can play catcher in an emergency situation. I don't know exactly where that thought came from, but hasn't it happened somewhere along the line? i believe tony g a few years back played like 6 positions in one game and one of them was catcher

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) I agree. I didn't have any problems with his column. He's expressed nothing more than we have here at Soxtalk. no, here is teh difference though, we here at sox talk will acknowledge when the sox do something great, or get great performances. Mariotti only looks at the negative, not only for the sox, but for everyone. he always sees the glass half empty or whatever, especially with teh sox. While we criticize, we also praise our sox when they do well. Mariotti only criticizes. I swear every article he writes about teh sox, he makes some allusion to his hatred for hawk, how the cubs out draw the sox, and how the sox are small market in a big market. This is exactly what he wants though, he just wants us to get pissed off so that we keep reading his crappy articles. he is no doubt an embarrassment to the entire city of chicago with the way he blasts just about every major sports figure in town just to make a story

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) "Somehow, sizzling Sox getting the job done" May 6, 2005 http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay06.html I love how he bashes the Sox for beating weak teams considering his Flubs just lost a series to the Astros and got swept by the Brewers. :headshake This tool needs a beating. that guy is such a douchebag

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) "Are the White Sox for real?" http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3594830 solid article, but im surprised it came from perry, hes usually such a huge obp guy

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 5, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) I don't care what they said. The credability was gone when he dubbed Konerko, dynamite. point taken

On Sports center, the sox were the first story, and they asked both gammons and reynolds if they will win 90, and both said yes. reynolds also said that if they go .500 teh rest of the way they get to 90. Finally all of you who complain about the lack of attention can have something to chear about, but im sure the responses to this post will say something like "f*** espn, who cares about them" and "they still didnt give us any props when they said ______"

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 5, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) How many times in the past few years have we seen the Twins pull bulls*** wins otta their ass? I'LL TAKE EVERY WIN, NO MATTER HOW IT COMES. I'm ready for the East coast teams. Tired of the Central. excellent point. the twins have won teh division by winning games they shouldnt over the past few years. ill take the same thing

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Assholes seems a little harsh don't ya think?? If you don't like a post then go to another topic...why make a post letting us all know you didn't like the post. We don't care...move on... I for one thought it was a good contribution with just enough sarcasm and facts spread throughout. yeah my fault, the asshole response shoulda been directed at teh guy who said Joe Morgan should die of ghonnerea and rot in hell. the rest of the post was just a comment, in response, i think im entitled to voice my opinion if i dont liek a post, but yes assholes was harsh in response ot the original post

what is astounding to me, is that AJ DOUBLED HIS RBIs on the year on that home run from 2 to 4. Thats what happens when you hit behind dye and rowand and konerko who havent been on base all year

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 4, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) I want to personally take my hat off to Joe Morgan, prognosticator of prognosticator, who said kicking off the season that he felt that Detroit and Cleveland had the talent to make it a tough three-way race with Minnesota all season. Sure enough, Cleveland proved tonight that they definitely belong in the picture. They hung right with the twins and then beat them in the ninth. W L GB Minnesota 15 11 - Detroit 12 14 3 Cleveland 11 15 4 Mr. Morgan didn't go as far to mention what place the three teams would be fighting it out for, but because he was so prescient I'm going to go ahead and just assume he meant second place. Of course he didn't bother mentioning the White Sox in that particular broadcast, despite the fact that very team was facing Minnesota that very night....although I'm sure that was just a mental slip. Lord knows he had too much to think about that night, such as why Craig Biggio or any other second baseman doesn't belong in the hall of fame, and what the Giants and Padres were up to while he was being bothered to be in the midwest for a couple of hours. Anyway, kudos to Joe for the sharp analysis. Look for this race to heat up as the season moves along! if you assholes would actually pay attention and quit criticizing EVERYONE who either 1.) critcizes the white sox or 2.) fails to mention the white sox, then you would know that joe morgan has gone on record a few times since saying he didnt think the white sox would be a factor, but after seeing them he thinks tehy are for real noting how they play the game the right way and are playing with great defense
