QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) I wasn't one of them, but what's wrong with that? You can't root for a guy and then after he s***s the mound a few times say he shouldn't be here any more? Why not? I think we all root for every Sox player, don't we? i wasnt one of them either. all im sayin is ppl overreact. yeah i think baj or jenks or even sanders should get called up first, but i also understand that walker has mlb experience and is a lefty. walker gave up 4 runs against anaheim and i believe that was teh only poor outing he had. and now people treat him like he is the second coming of cade mcnown . yeah he has a 5+ era at charlotte, but do any of us know how he threw the ball? one bad outing can ruin a short relievers ERA. people on this site dont know how to look at numbers. they look at the final numbers and base their opinions from those. like everyone wants to say viz "wets teh bed" but what they cant comprehend is if ozzie didnt leave viz out to dry vs. cle. and he threw only 1 ER instead of 6, his ERA would be 3.8 and everyone would be fine with him. but apparently because ozzie left him out there to throw 60 some pitches, he suddenly needs to wear huggies when he goes to the mound. get real people and look at it how it is. walker might not be the best choice, but dont s*** a brick cuz hes being called up.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) Plus he was dl'ed retroactive to the 27th so that's 6 days gone right there including the AS break. throw in an off day next thursday...and you are down to 8 games.....so we will see walker maybe twice....especially the way ozzie likes to overwork politte
-
i just want to know where the people who campaigned for walker to be on teh team outa spring training are. i wish i could find out who it was, cuz i suspect many ppl here are flip flopping

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) Come on, you know this is a terrible move. There are probably three or four guys in AAA that everyone would rather see. Walker's ERA is over 5 in AAA. This is garbage. yeah i can see wanting another lefty in the pen, but if you want a lefty why not even give david sanders a shot. he didnt pitch THAT bad with us in 03 i think it was. and he has a 3.25 ERA at charlotte. otherwise, i personally wanna see Jenks, but Baj deserves it too
-
i know it aint much but thouhgt some of you might wanna see it. i still cant really figure out whether thats much of a compliment about his fastball. i suppose its a compliment about his control, but sayin it dont light up radar guns.... which essentially is nothing we didnt know

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) It doesn't but 'sources' have said no way to both Randa and Chavez. Aw crap this maybe shoulda been in that monster all trades thread. My bad. yeah that thread had already been talking about this...but that thread sucks, its too big, everytime i leave the board i have to come back and read 16 new pages of worthless petty arguements like about why someone should or shouldnt mention carlos quenetin or maybe it was connor jackson....

QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 07:18 AM) According the southsidesox.com, the D-backs had some scouts at the game last night looking at someone in our bullpen. They speculate that it would be Vizciano. Has anyone heard anything about a trade? I didn't want to search through that massive trade thread. Here's the clip: Could be a trade in the works with the D'backs. An Arizona scout has attended the last two Sox-Tigers games. The Diamondbacks desperately need relief help. The D'backs got to see a whole lot of bullpen on Wednesday. Luis Vizcaino has to be the guy who the Sox are shopping. He's out of options, and wore out my patience long ago. He didn't even look good in his 2.1 scoreless last night. Maybe the D'Backs were fooled by the results. Cotts and Shingo both have options left, and have pitched very effectively lately, so I don't see them as options. Marte, Politte, and Hermanson are too valuable to be giving up. On top of all that, I can't think of anything on the major league level that Arizona could give us to make the team better. The deal would have to be for prospects. its funny cuz farmer and melton both raved about how well viz threw. melton said he hadnt seen the 2 seemer viz threw tonight since last year in milwaulkee, and farmer said he had a great slider workin....i missed him pitching tho so i cant give my two cents. just sayin what the experts said

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Daigle is so ridiculous. hey...from a vandy student who watched sowers pitch a bunch...i was surprised to see him in your sig....isnt it a little premature to include him with fielder young and hernandez?

chavez back in the picture? http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/301sd5.htm

not sure where i read it, but earlier in this thread (im to lazy to go back and find it) somebody said juan uribe could turn out to be equal to miggy tejada offensively. i just thought id let all you know that this is perhaps one of the dumbest things ive ever read on this site......on another note....thats too much to give up for schmidt

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Jesus Christ. agreed

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Why wouldn't I be upset if we gave up our top 2 prospects for a guy who's coming off an injury this year with a lower velocity and to this point has similar numbers to El Duque? Unless he strings together a couple more solid starts (I don't consider last night solid), I don't see him as being much of an upgrade. As for Burnett, I doubt Florida's asking price is any different than Schmidt's. If the Marlins are shopping him, he's gonna cost about the same. We've also probably got better prospects to offer than the other contenders (except Philly if they wanted to deal Howard and Floyd, or if Texas gives up some of their young major leaguers). the marlins are still trying to win this year and pull off a trade like they did for penny where they get decent this year and better in future years. btw gavin floyd has been the epitome of awful this year

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I don't think that RF is really used well unless it's over a season. Was Vizquel really better (RF) in past years, too? That said, I haven't looked at the stats. I've watched a lot of Giants games on TV and Vizquel doesn't show much range, but that's just from watching, no statistical backup. EDIT: I've never gotten the total concept of 'Win Shares', but per THT, Juan Uribe has 3.7 Defensive Win Shares to Vizquel's 1.3. LOL -- Timo Perez has a negative half of a Win Share at the plate this year. i agree with you about RF. in my mind its an awful stat and it reflects more about the teams pitching. people want to simply look at RF by itself, but it is like a pitchers record, its a stat that is dependant upon so many other things beyond the fielders control. if looked at at all, it must be looked at with zone rating, which is truly a much greater stat that reveals far more about the fielders range....id be willing to bet that uribe has a better ZR than vizquel. btw...baseball prospectus predicted uribe will have the highest defensive effeciency rating(ie defensive win shares basically) than any other shortstop this year. on a related note, jose valentin actually had the best ZR for two years in a row among shorstops proving him more effective defensively than just about everyone thought.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Where did you hear this tidbit? maybe i assumed too much.... i was assuming that the following were true1.) what was said earlier in the thread about the SF flagship sayin the scouts were heading to detroit to scout the white sox, and 2.) that more than likely they would be watching mccarthy
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Bajenaru untouchable? Heh, no. in fact...when talking about jason schmidt, no minor leaguers are untouchable, as evidenced by the fact that BMac will be scouted by the giants tonight
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Would an Anderson/Marte/Tracey package get the deal done for Schmidt? i hope so but i doubt it. i dont see the deal being done without mccarthy. SF will want a major league ready pitcher, and mccarthy is closer than tracey. what is interesting though is a few weeks ago KW said something about anderson saying that he was ready to play in the bigs, and would be there if not for a log jam in the OF already....such quotes could be statements to other teams hes trying to deal. same goes for baj or jenks, as KW has said they are ready to hit the bigs soon.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) Actually I believe stuff like that falls under the same category as taping stuff at home on your VCR. People are allowed to replicate it for their own usage. Previously the Supreme Court ruled that it was legal to tape copyrighted movies and shows off of TV, as long as they weren't replicating them and/or selling them. If it was for just your own viewing pleasure it was OK. I believe the way the teams get around it is by banning the equiptment itself from coming into the park (banning camcorders etc) read the back of a ticket sometime, and youll find something even more outrageous. techincally you arent even aloud to talk about or describe what is going on in the game on a phone to someone outside the game. i kid you not, it says something like the purchase of this ticket prohibits any description of the game to outsiders during play.

QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) I came in this morning and have to read through 18 pages on the one trade thread this is intersting stuff yet there is nothing of interset in any of the other threads. I think this rolling of misc info is really taking away from the site unless you are on non-stop. 40 and 50 page threads serve no purpose. IMHO agreed, i know ppl get pissed off at multiple threads talking about teh same thing, but the rumors thread is too big and should be branched off into one talking about schmidt one about burnett etc. that way we dont have to scroll through pages and pages of worthless crap to find what we are looking for

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) the idea of contreras starting in the postseason makes my head hurt. not me. the idea of any white sox pitcher starting in the playoffs makes my head feel good
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Sorry for asking this dumb question, but why do we need Schmidt or Burnett again? this is actually a good question. the will probably be able to win teh division with el duq/mccarthy running the #5 slot in the rotation. the same applies if they were to trade for ted lilly, or someone like that. the only reason to trade for burnett or schmidt is to have a guy who can start in the playoffs. KW always is saying how he wants a team built to go deep in teh playoffs, and studs in the rotation will allow that. if you count this team as a playoff team right now, which is not unrealistic, then they need to make a move for advancing to the LCS and WS. Schmidt is the one player who can have the biggest postseason impact. the sox are really in a damn good position. they can trade for the postseason, instead of having to acquire maybe a 3b upgrade to worry about winning in a 162 game schedule
-
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Schmidt is having velocity problems, is already in his 30s, and has struggled this year...not exactly the best guy in the world to trade for. Did I mention there's a 28 year old fireballer who's pitched over 100 innings and has an ERA in the low-mid 3s potentially on the block? the hope is that schmidt is well on his way to being healthy again. and when healthy ill take schmidt over just about anyone. maybe not santana and maybe not clemens. but a healthy schmidt with upper 90s heat, which he could get back to, is downright dominating
-
I realize the schmidt thing may have been said over there on SF radio, but they mentioned the prospects too? it seems on sports radio they never mention names of prospects unless a deal is extremely close or came extremely close to happening. do we have any local radio here mentioning anything like this or any other confirmed sources that even teh sox could be talking to SF?

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) I don't know about Alfonzo, but Omar Vizquel would look terrific playing for the Sox. Doubtful it will happen though because I can't see the Sox making Uribe a $3M per year backup. what about a 3M per year 3rd basemen if crede is dealt
