QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Can someone do some research and tell me the last winning-team in a pennant race that made three high-profile trades to drasticly alter the makeup of said winning club before the trade deadline? no kidding, not to mention tampa is gonna want a butt load for huff, and we arent gonna pay that price for a platoon/bench player...no offense but all 3 of those proposed trades is awful...id like to see maybe 1 of them happen...and if its huff, let him play 3rd over crede. all 3 wont happen

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) Ok -- here's my problem. In MVP Baseball, I can create five more guys. I'm obviously going to create Lance Broadway, now, I need help with the next four. I have down Stephen Drew and Justin Upton as two locks -- even if they're from the same farm system, but I have no clue where to go with the next two. I was thinking Ryan Zimmerman and Alex Gordon, but then I thought that a guy like Craig Hansen is going to make an impact real soon, so I figured I might put him in there. Normally, I wouldn't post an MVP question in here, but I think I can get better advice in here rather than the MVP thread, since it has to do with the overall minor leagues (no shot at anyone). Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. its such a crapshoot, there is some talk that hansen may be in the bigs at teh end of the year, but if i had to guess i would seriously doubt it. that said, he will probably be in the bigs faster than anyone else, but id add gordon. i think hes absolutely a stud. think about pelfrey too

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Link I have a question/suggestion. Would we be able to have an all-minor league thread, sort of like the one we have in the Around the Horn ("Around the Majors")? I think that would be sort of cool, just as something to look at for other teams' prospects as well as ours. If not, that's cool too. I've grown to love this part of Soxtalk, lots of good information and posters. not a bad idea, i would say however that there might be lack of posts and lack of lack of knowledge about opposing teams minor league systems. personally i know the top few prospects from most teams, but beyond that i have no knowledge of depth within other organizations with exception to maye the scrubs

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Don't forget Dizard, Haigwood and Haeger. Due to his workload from college and the solid staff that the Hogs already have, I would bet that Broadway would work primarily out of the bullpen for a bit. doubtful, you dont pay a guy 1.5 mil and take him 15th overall to pitch out of the pen when you drafted him to be a starter

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Va I raised the possibility of getting Griffey almost 1 1/2 months back. At that point, I was all for benching Rowand to play Griffey. But after seeing Rowand getting back to his last year #s, we are fine. We do nto need an OF'er. Think SS/3B/BP help. mackowiak is perfect, maybe they can even swing something where they get mike gonzalez as well...kind of like the cubs did for lofton ramirez simon in 03.

QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:00 AM) guardado could be my great grandfather and randa smirks all the time. who likes a smirker anyways? hows about mackowiak from the pirates. i can't imagine hed cost that much, maybe tracey and a lower lever prospect, if that. hes hittin .346 or something

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Royce Ring.. lOL! Sorry, but a Billy Bean disciple taking a college closer after the way they chastized KW is pretty damn funny IMO. wooa....be careful of your spelling.....you mean billy beane, the oakland GM. billy bean was a player for i believe the padres who came out and said he was gay a couple years ago

I go to vandy and go to pretty much every game, so ive seen ryan rote (5th round) pitch dozens of times. you can see the BA scouting report before but ill tell you what i think.... in one of the best pitching staffs in the nation I would say in terms of pure stuff, rote had the second best raw stuff behind sues who went a few picks earlier, but has better stuff but less pitchability than lewis and mullins who went 102 and 105. Hes tall and has a pitchers frame. He can and should get stronger but throws plenty hard already. He came to Vandy 2 years ago and instantly inherited the closers role. His best assest is certainly his fastball which my buddy who works the gun at Vandy said he has hit 99. consistently he prolly sits low to mid 90s. hes not afraid to throw inside and hits his fair share of batters. he struggles with his command and in the one game he started this year, he threw well, but had numerous past balls. he lacks a true offspeed pitch but throws a hard tight slider that mostly moves away to righties. There is no doubt that he can dominate against hitters who cant catch up to heat. when he is on, he paints the fastball and uses his slider as his out pitch and can be untouchable, as he struck the side out to close the game quite a few times. he seemed to have a tendancy to get hit by the better hitting ball clubs, and when he got rattled he would walk batters, which lead to fastballs being laid out over the plate. In terms of his makeup he is a pretty heady player, one of the smartest off the field and in the classroom for sure. He had a reputation as being one of the hardest working guys out there and rarely did anytype of partying that would put him in bad situations. id say hes a risk but has great upside, especially as a reliever. If he wants to become a starter, he needs to develop a better offspeed pitch. in summation i would say hes a typical hard throwing righty who if he can harness his command has the ability to dominate. on another note I know he played with Paul Moviel back when he was at his JC so hoepfully thatll help his comfort level if he starts out at GF

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Mullins...thats a kid I really like. yeah imo hes a steal in the third round, he outpitched sowers last year, and coming into this year he was talked about in teh same light as hochever. hes a perfect fit for the sox and had he not gotten the DUI (blew a .09, legal limit .08) he woulda kept on schedule and been a potential first rounder. he tailed off at the end of the year some but we'll see. im hoping that the sox will take him
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) I like Vandy's pitcher that replaced Sowers. jensen lewis or ryan mullins? i go to vandy and go to every game and friends with a bunch of those guys, mullins is legit lewis id wait on
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Haven't heard much on Moviel, I remember the Sox signed and drafted his brother Paul hoping to grab Greg. Hodges has flat raked, man would if of been nice if the Sox signed a couple of those guys. Its cool how Hodges broke his hammate and learned how to rake from the other side of the plate and is now a switch hitter. I remember you always loved Hodges. im personal friends with moviel, and hes bombed at vandy barely gettin any innings, but man what a frame on that kid. big strong lefty...if only he could throw strikes
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) WOW.... James was just quoted yesterday as saying he only way they would draft a HS pitcher is if he had a very clean delivery. ive read james' abstract and i cant believe he let theo take bowden. im shocked.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Head hasn't really fallen yet. He's kind of slated in this range. Good athlete (damn good power hitter). He'll probably go in the 2nd round, but could slide as far as the 4th round. Jeff Larish is a guy that could look good in the 3rd round if the Sox want a bat. Same with Head. A guy I like is Micah Owings (two way player from Tulane). Really good athlete, will go in the 1st 5 rounds. former Gatech guy who didnt sign with the scrubs...owings that is, yeah head im just sayin could fall and be there for the taking, hes got the right head for the bigs too...no pun intended

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Guys that slipped: Taylor Teagarden (ok, not much of a slip, but still good value at this point) Luke Hochevar (Borass) Mark McCormick (Borass) Matt Torra (wow, I thought his stock was rising) i wouldnt touch mccormick for many reasons, 1.) hes boras, 2.) his college numbers really are not good. 3.) i saw him pitch and said something like good luck youll need it when he was warmin in the pen, and he went on a rampage. the kid has no makeup. man hes got gas tho...he hit 99 in the cape i believe

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Any others besides the southpaw from Vandy to hope falls to the Sox in the 3rd? maybe the bowden kid from waubansie will fall, not sure the sox would take him though, but i wouldnt mind seeing steven head outa ole miss fall, thats unlikely though,
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) What are some names I should hope fall to the 3rd for us? Who are our possabilities. 3B? Greene? ryan mullins LHP vanderbilt

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Hansen is falling!!!!! boras

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:52 AM) Same here, I haven't gone to bed yet, and it is 9am here. BA is sayin that teh sox will take Broadway over carillo or bogey. i just hope they arent overvaluing him based on his last 3 outings....btw my buddy who works for the tulane baseball team in teh press box says bogey always sports the new, old school 83 chisox hat....just thought it was an interesting note

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Not sure. Heard many fans talk about it on the Sox post game show the past week or so. And when I heard that Chavez expects to be traded if the A's keep on losing on the Score yesterday- i found that very interesting. Now you have this article in Scot Merkin's section in the DH. Hmm I wonder if any of the ESPN douches know anything about this rumor? Go back a few pages, i copied what buster olney had written about it -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) "With Oakland already buried in the AL West basement, Chavez is there for the taking. And he wants out of Oakland so bad that he’s the one who apparently is fueling the trade rumor to the Sox." He wants out...that sounds to me like he wants out, like I said earlier. Some people jumped on me for saying that. more news on this... this is from buster olney in his espn mag weblog... "There are rumblings of a big White Sox-Oakland trade in the making, with Eric Chavez in the middle of it. And Scot Gregor renders an opinion on the possibility. The best thing about Chavez landing with the White Sox is that Chicago already has an established clubhouse hierarchy, and Chavez wouldn't be expected to do anything more than fit in. It would make sense for Billy Beane to deal Chavez now, before his value dips any lower and people start to wonder if his malaise is going to continue and whether he's worth the $10 million annual salary. guys this thing could be more serious than anyone thought.... http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=56482 "With that in mind, take this latest rumor with as many grains of salt as necessary. But don’t deny it has some serious bite. The White Sox trade starting third baseman Joe Crede and top pitching prospect Brandon McCarthy to the Oakland Athletics for power-hitting, Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez. There’s another rumor indicating the A’s also want minor-league outfielder Brian Anderson," "And he wants out of Oakland so bad that he’s the one who apparently is fueling the trade rumor to the Sox." QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 06:47 AM) It sounds like he knows that the A's won't want to pay his salary if they aren't a playoff contending team. Going by Mulder's and Hudson's deals, why should Chavez expect Beane to keep his even larger salary around if the A's aren't going to the playoffs for a few years? -
QUOTE(Fotop @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) I like Howard a lot, but I think they want a king's ransom for him. Plus, Thome is hurt so Howard is providing good insurance. Maybe if Howard bombs in his limited time, his trade value will go down. I personally want Adrian Gonzalez from TEX because there's no way breaks that infield anytime soon. Plus, he's left handed, which is always good. I just don't know what we could offer Texas...maybe some pitching prospects not named McCarthy. uh oh

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I just got back from my spanish final. is there anything that happened that i can't read in a cbs play by play? not really, pretty uneventful

QUOTE(Fotop @ May 6, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Harris should been gone soon enough, that's true. But really, if you're dealing Harris you have to think about a future 1st Baseman. Try to grab someone like Stokes from Florida? EDIT: Probably not straight up for willie, but you get my drift. philly will want a ton, but why not ryan howard
