  1. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) I don't think Gammons is misinformed but the Marlins probably are setting the deadline as a means of negotiating but they'd revisit a trade after it. Just one of those things. yes. its very possible. the white sox are much more alive in the burnett rumor this morning than they were yesterday. jayson stark said that the orioles are refusing to take on lowells contract and cant find the right fit to move him in a 3 way trade. he said that the marlins may have to listen to other deals because the O's deal is looking shaky at this point. there were some articles today on prosportsdaily.com that had a similar sentiment
  2. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Is he avail at all. I know there were some talks but i havent heard much lately. Seattle is just about out of it being 14.0 games outs and 9 under .500 Eddie Guardado could be nice bullpen help, he's also left handed. Some like this would make more sense than an Aj Burnett. at this point i think guardado will be available, but expensive. whoever loses out on billy wagner will probably overpay to get guardado. i know hes an injury concern, but you are playing for this year alone, and you gotta roll the dice on this guy. personally id rather have wagner, who should be available. i cant imagine seattle would completely ignore offers, they have to listen for guardado, we just may have to take a guy like ibanez on as well, and maybe we could dump him to another team or something
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) No. I mean someone capable of driving in 100 runs a year. Not a defensive replacement who happens to hit from the left side. i dont disagree with you that we could use a lefthanded rbi guy, but right now with the market as is, and our current lineup, who can we get and where does he fit? the lefthanded rbi guys available i can think of griffey, helton, thome (all overpriced) dunn and huff would be ok, but play them where? huff makes the most sense as a fill in guy who can split time between 1st 3rd and OF, but he is gonna cost tons of prospects.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Very f***ing doubtful. They may want Shingo, but Arroyo? He's a solid pitcher and they are in a 3 team battle that might only have one team survive to see the post season. harold reynolds put this whole chemistry issue best... Larry,New York,NY: Do you think Kenny Williams will play with the chemstry of the White Sox? Harold Reynolds: (11:33 AM ET ) It depends on the player. If he has a chance to get Billy Wagner, should he be worried about chemistry!? btw just before that....there was this very amusing exchange, the second question, dan (chicago) is me. Newt (Jacksonville): Any truth to the rumor that Tom Emanski has put a contract out on you for trying to steal his turf? ESPN may only be big enough for one how-to guru. And while you had an impressive MLB career, let's face it, you've never coached back-to-back-to-back AAU national champions . . . Harold Reynolds: (11:30 AM ET ) Ha! Yeah, because I was PLAYING instead of coaching! Would you rather learn from the player or coach! Put it this way.. check out my series and see if you want to learn from Ozzie Smith in HD or Tom Emanski's still pictures in 1980? Dan (Chicago): But tom Emanski has fred Mcgriff in that blue hat! Harold Reynolds: (11:32 AM ET ) No, I don't. That is true.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) For the above mentioned reasons I edited the post out. ESPN can come after Soxtalk for that stuff, as they hold us responsible for our content, so I took it off. If someone wants to summarize that is cool, or if you guys want to contact each other to talk about it, that is up to you. Thanks guys. yeah i was the one who posted it originally in another thread, and in retrospect everything you said is right. i could give a f*** if 500000 people read it for free, just posting it on here jeopardizes soxtalk legally, so i wont do it anymore either. if you wanna email or Pm me, ill give it to you guys that way too
  6. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) Get. Billy. Wagner. Now. couldn't. agree. more.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Not nit-picking those are good points. I honestly just think Wagner is such a shutdown reliever and I'd love to have the guy. Trust me that's no shot at Hermy at all and I have a ton of faith in the guy but Wags is a top 3-5 closer in baseball imo and Dustin could be the setup man which he would have no problem with, you deepen the bullpen and wow that bullpen would definitely be stacked, once again this is all jmo. Hope it happens and then we can discuss it more. i agree with you. in my opinion, there are only about 3-4 players available that will impact a playoff series. burnett is one (but is inconsistent, and a question mark with health, money, prospects/major league players given up), schmidt is one (but has the same questions as burnett), guardado (health concern) and wagner. of them to me, wagner is the only sure fire impact player in terms of performance. even in terms of position players, i don't see anybody else out there that will have a huge impact on any team. wagner is top 5 closer no doubt (a healthy gagne, rivera, and then wagner id say). but when your lefties outa the pen are wagner marte cotts, with hermanson and politte in there, and with the ability of our top 3 starters to go 6-7 innings, fohgetaboutit
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) The Dodgers if anything are going to be buyers not sellers at the upcoming deadline. You saw the deal they made to get Brad Penny last season, if they trade Weaver they'll probably want a SP in return. what? i hope you wanted that in green. the dodgers are pitiful. 10 under .500 rihgt now and nearly 20 under since that 11-2 start. throw in all of their injuries. why would they be buyers? they were maybe a few weeks ago, but not any more. that team stinks and they know they aren't going anywhere this year
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) So you would be discluding fielding percentage, range factor, and zone rating? What are this defesive statistics that matter then? Hmm. i believe the word you were looking for is excluding. not discluding
  10. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Was he doing his stupid giggling as he was talking? haha i dont think so...he did kinda chuckle and say you can stop looking at the rumor mills on websites because a big move isnt gonna happen
  11. KW was on the score and said that nothing big was gonna happen. he said all major moves will subtract significantly from the major league team and that trading away prospects is one thing, but subtracting from the current team isnt a good option. he said that teh rumors that are out there are pretty much done with and that they wont happen. imo, im not too disappointed because the market is awful. im not sure that anyone that is available would truly help this team. burnett would, but not for major league players. same as schmidt. wagner is the only guy i can see that will help.
  12. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) To give someone a free pass just because they had cancer is ludicrous. I am not in any way saying I support the idea that Lowell was on steroids, but you can't just argue that he had cancer, so boo hoo poor him. That's like saying, well, he killed that guy, but he had cancer so don't pick on him. Anyway, his numbers have been bad, but he was never really THAT good anyway. I don't think Lowell took steroids, but am not defending him just because he had cancer. Though I do feel bad for him, and respect him for overcoming cancer, I don't give him a free pass for life. im not basing it on him having cancer. im basing it on the many reports and an OTL done on lowell and his cancer. much of the same strong denials of steroids that have made believers of fans when regarding big frank are the same types of things that have been said about lowell. but fine, if you wanna go ahead and think he was on the juice, by all means go ahead. i for one believe OTL and lowell, just as i believe frank............btw by no means is this any type of endorsement to trade for lowell, cuz quite frankly i dont want him
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) In opposition of your point: Ivan Rodriguez, Mike Lowell, Bret Boone, Sammy Sosa go ahead and accuse boone irod sosa all you want. i dont care. they didnt have CANCER before making it big in the majors like lowell, that not only threatened his career, but his life. accusing lowell of roids is ridiculous, and it has been a well documented statement that he hasnt touched performance enhancing drugs
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) What is the link to the score's website? www.670thescore.com
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Ster-oids!!! Ster-oids!!!! i'll be willing to bet my life that lowell took steroids. he must have, its called cancer, and you take certain types of steroids as treatment.....but his cancer is exactly the reason that someone like you accusing lowell of using anabolic steroids and/or THG is completely insane. just because a guy has a bad year this year doesnt mean he's on steroids. after everything lowell has been through, there is no way he is risking his life and the possibility of even more cancer by taking illegal roids. that was a stupid and insensitive comment
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) Big Jason Stark insider article on ESPN right now detailing the 10 big names to be moved, anyone have a subscription?
  17. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Boston.com: No Marlins scouts sightings at Fenway. Marlins price: If you want Burnett you have to take Lowell & give them a SP & RP in return. O's have Julio & Penn, White Sox BMac. White Sox scouting Phillies. Was it for Burnett or Wagner? White Sox scout Bill Lajoie would not say. The O's did not have a scout in attendance. The Red Sox are actively seeking both a SP & RP. Targets: Mike Wise, Miguel Batista, Danys Baez, & Eddie G. TBJ price for Batista: top prospect of a Hanley Ramirez level. too bad bill lajoie is a scout for the red sox not the white sox
  18. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) was I serious? you'll never know EDIT: Honestly, I forgot about the throwing lefty thing. You see a lot of lefties playing infield, but I forgot that they had to throw righty. Also, haven't seen Gload play in a long time. Oops. no worries, sorry if my first post was a little on the harsh side, it was meant to be funny, and apparently jimh thought so. its not a bad idea, having another player being able to perhaps spell or play 3rd, but gload isnt the right player. too bad konerko can't anymore, he used to be able to (as well as catch). even still if a guy like konerko, assuming he still could, defense i think is way too critical for this ball team to have such a significant dropoff
  19. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) Gload is getting healthy, it sounds like and hopefully will join the team soon. My question: can he play 3B to spell Crede sometimes? fyi: from baseball 101 for idiots: players who throw lefthanded play 1b or OF, and never 3b, SS, 2b, C"
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) A Shingo deal makes sense sadly. Ozzie refuses to use the guy for long periods of time, and he is essentially a waste of a roster spot right now. We might as well get something for him. I am holding out hope for somekind of a deal to get Alex Cintron, but I doubt that will happen. oh lord i would love to land any one of conor jackson, carlos quentin, stephen drew. not that any of them will be traded, at least not for shingo.
  21. i know everyone has heard that burnett was traded to boston, but there has been no other info besides that. this is what i read on the marlins websites message board tho...it actually includes names ESPN radio is reporting that the red sox get AJ in a three way deal with san diego involved. They said BOS gets: AJ Burnett and Mike Lowell SD gets: Abe Alvarez FLA gets: Sean Burroughs, Kelly Shoppach, and Bronson Arroyo I tend to bleieve this since Lowell and Burroughs both didn't play today... i know you guys dont put trust in mlb.com message boards, but i thought this sounded legit enough to at least deserve some credit
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) I can't figure out why anyone, and i mean anyone, would consider trading one of our bullpen lefties without getting a lefty in return. I mean, we've seen that Ozzie refuses to hold onto a bullpen without 2 lefties. Does someone here still think Kevin Walker is a suitable replacement lefty? The moment Marte went down, the first move we made was to bring back Walker. in my opinion if they deal marte, they have to and will get one of wagner and guardado. wagner wont be as tough to get as most think. philly wants out of his contract, he has said he wants out, and they want to get something for him before he is a FA. besides unless boston offers up hanley or pedoria, which they wont do, we can beat any offer that Stl or Bos has. if they could deal marte + contreras for burnett then spin off a top prospect or two for wagner id jump all over it.
  23. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) My overall feeling today is I hope KW doesn't do anything stupid. With Contreras and Marte pitching very well last night, I'm no longer eager to trade them for anything at the moment. I'd rate the biggest needs at having a reliable alternative to Joe Crede because of his back problems that will allow us to bring up Ross Gload as a lefty bat who can spell Konerko. And if we can substitute Omar Vizquel's lefty bat at SS, I see that as a plus too. On the pitching front, I still like Schmidt, but I would rather ship El Duque and a prospect than Contreras if the Giants would make that deal. Would I give them BMac? No, but I'd give them just about any other pitcher in the minors (except Jenks). yeah well i got news for you, any other pticher in the minors not many other teams will want. diaz, munoz adkins are all 4A players. Baj is like 27 already, sean tracey is imo a fringe prospect. gio at this point is about teh only one, and for a guy like schmidt, even gio is still unproven having not thrown at AA yet. you aren't going to get a top of the line pitcher for midline or non pitching prospects
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I wish Glavine was putting things together after a poor start, but he's pitched consistently medicore to bad the entire year in the NL. Still, I could see some logic to this move simply because he's a very heady veteran pitcher that could add a lot to this club. I also assume this would kind of be a Plan D option and would have a much smaller price tag (in terms of what to give up). It kind of depends on what the Sox do. If they make a hard push at Wagner or Guardado (who will cost a little something prospect wise), Kenny may opt for a vet like Moyer or Glavine who may not cost as much prospect wise (especially Glavine). One question...is Shea considered a pitchers park or a hitters park because Glavine pitches at least dedent there (4.22 ERA) while he's horrendous on the road. shea stadium is big pitchers park. not quite dodger stadium or petco, but as much of a pitchers park as safeco
  25. I'll be pissed if we trade carl everett in that burnett deal. i will also be pissed if we trade for glavine. he stinks
