  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:17 AM) In all the articles and columns I read this overnight, I did read somewhere that KW and 3 Sox scouts were at Wrigley to watch Schmidt pitch. oops yeah sorry, after reading thru the other threads after i posted i realized that levine said it last night too apparently....sorry......3 scouts and the GM seems like a ton to me.
  2. http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...7150.xml&coll=1 take it for what its worth
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:31 AM) Bingo, that means the interest is mutual. if this doesnt get your engine turning i dont know what will. a very good friend of mine who works at wrigley field, called my at like midnight telling me he saw KW at the game. KW walked right by him, hes positive it was him. said interestingly enoguh that when he saw him he was chatting with jerry krause. at any rate this is a very reliable source and is 100% accurate. take it for what its worth, schmidt, vizquel, eyre, who knows. but KW was there, and usually when a GM is there scouting a game something big is usually goin down
  4. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) thanks for jinxing us now vizcaino will go on to give up 9 runs with 2 outs. lol come on, he aint koch
  5. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Michael Young is a 30/100 player. He is the real deal along with Hank Blalock. and the best of the bunhc, teixeira
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Sorry Fellas, I don't have the heart to make it past page 33. Any updates since noonish? recap....levine made it sound close, later inthe day said they were very close on saturday to having a 72 hour window to negotiate. now he said the marlins are talkin with bosox. burnett said he wont sign with white sox, but will with red sox. white sox will be willing to take on lowell if money is right. other than that, the deal which some made sound imminent, probably will go down to the wire and will go to boston or white sox, or he could not even be dealt at all
  7. bruce levine on now, saying its "good one day the next day you just dont know" sat. they were very close to getting the 72 hour window, in which they would talk about a 3 year 30 million dollar deal. he says boston is coming with their best offer today, and that it might go down to the wire.
  8. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) Gammons on Sportscenter said FLA keeps winning AJ Burnett will NOT be traded. these people are f***in with my head so much i dont know what to believe. about 3 hours ago i thought this deal was done. now everything in the national media is saying that it wont get done. gammons said in his article today that it is reportedly known that burnett would sign a long term deal if he was dealt to boston but probably not if he was dealt to the chisox.
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) he gone yep stick a fork in him, maybe this will be an opp for KW to land griffey
  10. QUOTE(Pods70Rowand33 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) I heard it on 1000 too, so they're not lieing. they've just been talking about football ok, thanks, robinventura23 i apologize, im just tired of people falsely reporting, or exaggerating posts of stuff they hear on the radio
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Avatar has been updated. But for daa84's point of reference. lol thanks, thats just flat out funny
  12. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) The Burnett speculation thread seems to be filled with 99% speculation still, but let's assume for a moment we're getting AJ and Lowell soon for the cost of BMac and Marte. What should the Sox do then? 1. Lowell v. Crede. I don't buy the theory that you keep both on the team so that Lowell can replace Konerko next year. Lowell is a 3B. If he hits to his career averages, he is clearly a better 3B than Crede. Here's Lowell's average year: 5.72 162 593 80 162 41 0 24 98 58 89 3 1 .273 .340 .466 .806 Here's Crede's: 2.86 162 553 70 141 29 1 23 81 33 89 1 2 .255 .304 .435 .739 Lowell is 31, while Crede is 27, so the trends should move together, but if the Marlins are picking up 1/3 of Lowell's contract over the next 2-1/2 years, he should be a fine bridge to Fields. That means if we're taking on Lowell, then KW must already have another trade in mind involving Joe Crede. The problem is, who would he help? Cleveland, Minnesota, Seattle, the Nats, and Philadelphia. Only the last team is a possible trade partner. 2. Whither Contreras? With Burnett on the team, are we really going to pay Jose Contreras close to $8 million to become a long reliever? Do we trust his wildness and inability to prevent steals enough to use him as an alternative closer? Must we keep him around to protect against El Duque going down again? Does this depend on re-signing Burnett? I think the answer is to trade Contreras to a contender that needs a starting pitcher. Again, the logical choice would be Philadelphia. 3. Will Philly accept Contreras, Crede, and Vizcaino for Billy Wagner? This would be the logical repercussion of a Sox trade for Burnett and Lowell. To try to add Billy Wagner in a huge push to win it all this year. Philly might go for it if they get 3 major league players in the deal. Indeed, they might be crazy not to go for it. The result would be that we would have surrendered BMac to get: Burnett for Contreras Wagner for Marte and Vizcaino Lowell for Crede We could then bring up Bajenaru for the last spot in the pen. 4. Will those additions be enough? I would consider one other move. Trying to pry Omar Vizquel from SF for Juan Uribe and prospects. Of course, all of this would be too good to be true, especially if JR spent the money to re-sign both Burnett and Wagner for the next couple of years. A possible lineup that is solid 1-9: Pods LF Iguchi 2B Everett DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Pierzynski C Rowand CF Lowell 3B Vizquel SS Bench: Ozuna, Harris (for speed), Gload, Widger, Perez. A possible rotation: Buehrle Garcia Garland Burnett El Duque Bullpen: Wagner, Politte, Cotts, Hermanson, Jenks, Bajenaru If you add a 90% Frank Thomas in mid-September through the postseason, this team could match up with anyone. With Lowell/Vizquel instead of Crede/Uribe we would have changed the left side of the infield, but we would have veteran presence and solid defense. Plus WS experience and a lot fewer outs. It is this last point that sells me. Without Thomas our lineup would have no superstars. But is also would have no weak links. next time you give stats, how bout letting everyone know what they actually mean instead of just giving us numbers
  13. robinventura23 reported that levine threw out numbers on a deal the sox were working on for burnett 3yr/30 mil. at abotu 5:15. i flipped on the radio since he posted it and ive heard nothing. seriously guys if you are just posting s*** to get a rise out of everyone on this board, id kick you in the nuts harder than that chick in southsideirish71s avatar
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Has it been mentioned that Burnett is more of a groundball pitcher than Jose over their careers? Also Burnett is getting groundballs at a great rate this year. we digress with the bears talk, back to burnett, per jayson stark....this may have been posted already, if it was sorry......
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) You don't sound like a Bears fan. Bears fans are usually optimistic during training camp and don't start getting down on the team until 6 games into the season when they're 1-5. You should be getting pumped right now for some Bears football, that defense is gonna be pretty damn good this year. We go P-Nut and Mike Brown comming back healthy along with a Brian Urlacher, though he does have other things on his mind. 16-0 baby. i will admit, i bleed both silver and black and blue and orange, but at the same time, if the sox won the world series and the bears went 0-16, id be a happy camper
  16. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) silence yourself!! there can never be too much bears talk!! when it takes away from more urgent and meaningful (given the timing) white sox talk there sure can be too much bears talk
  17. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) In 4 words: It's a Bears town. i know it is, but IAN SCOTT!!?????? WITH 2 MONTHS TIL A MEANINGFUL GAME??? wait, i forgot its the bears, they dont play any meaningful games............................... on a side not i am a die hard bears fan and by no way does my belittling of them have anything to do with me not being a true fan
  18. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) This was on around 5:15ish. IS ANYONE AS SICK AS ME OF HEARING BEARS TALK ON THE RADIO!? ITS THE HEAT OF THE DEADLINE WITH A FIRST PLACE TEAM TALKING ABOUT ACQUIRING THE TOP STARTER ON THE MARKET, AND THESE ASSHOLES ON THE RADIO ARE TALKING ABOUT GODDAMN IAN SCOTT AND HOW GOOD OF A RUN STUFFER HE WILL BE. AHHHHH IM GETTING PISSED
  19. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) This was on around 5:15ish. oh ok, sweet sig btw
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Farmer was on the radio with MJ+H and said he hadn't hear much of anything about a Burnett deal. I suspect they are in or are entering the 72 hour window to negotiate an extension. Why else is Levine suggesting the Sox are talking contract with him, and further, give out specific numbers like $30m/3 yrs. ? Seems to me they wouldn't be talking contract behind the scenes if there weren't something tentatively in place. all i know is that last year, it was believed that some people may have intentionally leaked false info to levine about russ ortiz and andruw jones for magglio, so that the attention would be taken away from the deal that KW was actually making, which was the garcia deal.....not sayin thats whats happening, but i find it really hard to believe that 1.) levine is actuallyl reporting numbers, and that 2.) if he is reporting numbers, that 0 other media outlets are reporting anything serious on this trade. im not saying this wont happen, but im just sayin there are some reasons to doubt it
  21. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Bruce Levine said that the Sox are offering Burnett a contract in the area of 3 yr/10 mil per year. Stay tuned. looks like maybe i turned the radio off at the wrong time, but i was listening up til 4:45 and didnt hear a thing
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) I dont understand why Detroit is shopping Johnson so hard? He is part of a staff that is in the top 5 ERA in the league. Johnson has been hard on the Sox for the past 2 years, even though they have enjoyed mild success against him. Strange. not sure what has been said on this board in the past 1.5 hours, but i can tell you from what i read before those 1.5 hours that this thread is a crock of s***. those 1.5 hours i spent listening to the radio in the car, and on am1000 not even one single mentino of this during their updates. 1 measly caller called in about burnett, but didnt say anyhting about a trade being in place. In addition 1 score update on 670 said that the white sox could be working on a trade for lowell and burnett, but that was about the extent of it. the way people on here post they make it sound like it was reported that the deal was pretty much done and that only a few minor details had to be worked out.
  23. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) Anyone else think that KW may spin-off Lowell in another deal? I really don't see the need for him. Maybe the Marlins are saying the Burnett deal is contingent on the Sox taking him. Just a thought. i think its a distinct possibility, but hte only way i see it happening, is if the sox pay most of whats left on lowells deal, but call me crazy but im glad we would get lowell. the dude is starting to hit, and if he moves into our park, and he comes back some, he could be a great pick up. not to mention, hes an inspiration being a cancer survivor, and hit that game winner vs. the cubs in game 1 iirc
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) I am listening to 670 AM and they are reporting that they are finalizing it. They are trying to agree on how much the Marlins will pay of the remainder of Lowell's contract and the Sox are also trying to negotiate with AJ Burnett to sign a new deal. the sox are getting lowell too???
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) I agree but I am SUPER excited abour him. MY dream scenario would be that he come in like KRod did for the Angels late in the season in 03 when the won the WS... who wouldnt want that?
