  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) I think a good major league reliever could be had over waivers. Any good reliever would probably be scooped up by the BoSox though. If one gets by worth signing, I say KW shouls sign him. i agree that we should, but if we needed one, my only qualm is that, we could have had one at the deadline and we didnt, and instead we are bringing up jon adkins
  2. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) content. nothing really could be done. just because nothing could get done shouldnt necessarily make you content.
  3. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Can anyone think of players who still might be available to the Sox. Who would get trough waivers? How about Ken Griffy Jr.? when you have the best record in baseball other players arent gonna allow a trade to happen. they will put in a waiver claim and block the trade.
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Aubrey Huff up for the Rays bah, pull him! if he gets pulled ill go nuts
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) You're saying that even though Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko have better power numbers, and that Scott Podsednik is one of the best lead-off hitters in baseball, you'd still prefer Aubrey Huff to any of em? lemme say some words about this teams truly unheralded player. beltran signed for 120 mil, has like .260 9 homers, JD Drew 55 hurt and wasnt doing anything, magglio hurt and hittin well now, but only for 1/2 the year. meanwhile jermaine dye signed for 8 million and has better numbers than all of them. 21 homers .265. give this guy some pub national media
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) Aw, what the f***? I just read through like 9 pages of stuff I've missed since last night, and not one f***ing thing happened. Geoff Blum?! Who gives a rat's ass? Where's my Huff? hopefully gettin on a plane headed to baltimore
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) If it means Thug-Life Willie Harris is off the 25 man roster...why the worries? I bring this one out from time to time: haah yeah im sure this is just because they might either be trading willie, as george offman said would happen by the deadline, or hes just gonna bump willie to charlotte. either way i think the reaosn many people are disappointed is that they are expecting a bigger deal and are hoping this aint the only deal that happens
  8. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) who cares, for he is making 8 million, I think he can get over it. my lord....i forgot how good those 90s cleveland lineups were...they are showin boggs 3,000 hit vs. indians on classic.....vizquel, a damn good alomar(s), ramirez and thome in their primes, a good lofton, justice (he was old bythen) lofton fryman .....yikes
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Oakland, Oakland, Oakland. there are many ways to build a club. oakland does extremely well being able to build on young players. but its an extremely difficult way to win. there are countless other teams that fail at it. sooner or later it will fail for oakland too, but thats how baseball is , its cyclic. the yankees and red sox win every year by making those trades for huff and not playin any youngsters( til this year). that also inflates payroll, so midlevel teams must find a way to balance what oakland and new york do, and i think the white sox can and should go out and get huff, because i think in the second half in our ballpark, he would be our second best overall hitter, behind dye
  10. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) How long after the deadline does news of deals trickle out. I mean, if 5 minutes before the end of the deadline KW gives up on his top 6 plans and goes for plan g, how long might that news take to come out? What time can I give up trade hopes? not sure, i thought last year we knew almost right away about contreras and loaiza, and that was submitted 1 minute before the deadline. i think its easy to find out right away, because the team then has nothing to hide, and probably isnt working on any other deals.
  11. theres alot i got a hat with a bunch of sigs, ozzie, wimpy, minoso, thiggy and don pall. i also took some good pics at spring training 2004. but man.....ill tlel you what, those old little league frank thomas cleats that have the zebra stripes on the side, and on the back it says "35 big hurt" they had a pic in the trib of frank wearin em that reminded me i still had em. those are sweet
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) 4 hours til deadline and counting, my guess is nothing big at all. 5, not 4
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) 5 hours... and each one for the past 2 weeks has driven me nuts thinkign about trades and trade possibilities
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) I dunno... Can you handle facing an All-Star/former top ex-Sox prospect 16 times a year for the next 10 years? its not like the royals will be any good
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) No problem, but what do you think? Tonight or tomorrow before the game? I'd have to say tonight. i would guess tomorrow before the game. if you remember contreras for loaiza was finalized 1 minute before teh deadline last year
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) BP reported the Sox have made what they called their final push and I interpreted as final offers for Burnett, Wagner, and Huff and will take the first one that is agreed upon because the offers have common players. and if its none? what happens if miami agrees and the sox spend some time signing AJ, and then philly calls and says ok lol .
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Sure was. Clemens thought he was a chicken. Mattingly wouldn't shave those damn sideburns. Scioscia worked in the plant and got sick from the chemicals. Canseco helped the lady bring all of her stuff out of the house (I think). There's more. I forgot who got arrested for all of the crimes in New York. classic stuff......griffey drinks something i forget what it was, but thats what makes his head big...darryl strawberry is the only person that is normal and burns loves him, but he still pulls strawberry who has like 4 homers in the game in favor of homer to bat in the 9th iirc. they never play that episode anymore. and yes canseco rescues all the crap including teh washing machine from the burning house. the beer goggles quote in that page 2 thing is so true.
  18. QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Jayson Stark was on Sportscenter a little while ago and said as of now, the Sox are involved in just about every major trade. I wonder what this means...Griffey?Wagner?Huff? I guess we will have to wait and see. something big is going to happen...maybe 2 something bigs....i could see KW getting manny and burnett.....mannys contract is simply too big to take on though
  19. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) All eyes are on the M's. LHRP's Villone, Guardado. Starters Meche, Moyer. Hitters: Winn, Ibanez. All of them rumored to be for sale to the highest bidder. The White Sox showing interest only in the LHRP's. Most other contenders looking at the entire menu. As for TAM, the White Sox seem to have the strongest interest in closer Baez, & LHB Huff. Redman: Pitt's LHSP acquired earlier from the A's is expected to be traded. The usual suspects have interest. Hopefully Kenny is one of them. Another LHSP at the right price could do wonders for the rotation. Cincy: Pick 1: Ken Griffey Jr., Wily Mo Pena, Austin Kearns or Adam Dunn. They can't all stay & the asking price in talent is expected to drop. Boston: Mueller continues to be mentioned. All of the above will likely face wheeling & dealing even past the deadline. The team with the best record in MLB has the worst disadvantage then as all other GM's pretty much have to agree with any trade (what the waiver process really means). The pipe-dreams left alive by rumors: Schmidt: A high ranking SF scout has been tailing the WSox for weeks. More so than any other team. That be a sure waste of time if something wasn't going down. Burnett: Both the RSox & WSox have asked for 72 hr windows to negotiate multi-year contracts with AJB. Some reporters feel that's impossible but they forgot the classic trade approval line: "have agreed in principle to a trade ... subject to ....". That usually fits under the 31st deadline & extends the negotiating window. Wagner: He's off the market. It looks like a 2 yr extension to remain in Philly is in the works. Soriano, Matthews: Texas continues to say they are not for sale, but the Mets continue to think Soriano is theirs for the taking. Manny Ramirez: The wee-wee story was the last straw. Last yr's WS MVP has asked to be traded. It's been confirmed. It remains to be seen how much BOS will chip in & what their asking price will be but the NY papers are all a flutter over the idea of Manny playing LF in Shea. That's your around the league trade news for today. I need to go look up Baez's numbers now to see what he brings to the table. juggsy, i think the schmidt thing is ia pipedream, i think it might happen for real...im readin some places that the sox are higher on schmidt than burnett. this could be classic KW too, get everyone to think you are goin after AJ, then slide in and get schmidt. the GM and 3 scouts dont jsut go to watch a guy if there isnt serious interest. if i had to bet, id think schmidt is more likely to happen than burnett. i think hes closer to a true top line stud than burnett is anyways, and thats what Kw wants
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with you there. People in general do suck. to quote jerry seinfeld : "theyre the worst"
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I was not trying to be an ass and if it came across that way I apologize also.. I understand what you are saying.. and it's logical.. but not to someone who has no interest in doing anything when they can be lazy and collect a check. oh well....lets jsut get back to talking sox
  22. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) I knew that, they were going to be the St. Pete something, I have the t-shirt. The stadium down there was built for a team of some sort. It was their leverage. thank god they never moved....its the exact same tactic the bears used when they cleared that plot of land in gary and threatened to build there
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) For the team with the best record in MLB it comes down to this after July 31st.: A team wishing to trade a player to the White Sox must first seek approval from all 28 other teams. yeah that presents a problem, but fortunately, i know it kind of an unwritten rule that many GMs, as long as they dont have a huge beef with the trade will allow it, because they know that next time, not allowing a trade could come abck to bite tehm in teh ass
  24. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Maybe open the paper... watch the sports news. It's common sense to see what they are doing and where they are going. Even their manager called them out. Or I suppose you can just sit there and be ignorant on the matter... the manager did call them out. on not caring about winning enough to spend some money to bring it good players. but isnt that what im arguing? either way, i fell victim to the 2 things i hate most. 1. people who unnecessarily become a dickhead on this site. and for that i apologize. i think the fundamental differnce in which we are arguing is petty, since all that matters is the fact that we both agree that their committment to their money outweighs their comittment to winning. so im sorry if i was, and i was , a dickhead and 2.) that i just took up a whole 3 damn pages of a rumor thread to discuss something that has absolutely nothing to do with teh rumor. so now that what has said has been said i woudl suggest and encourage any mods to either a.) move the last few pages to a new thread or b.) just delete it. its pretty useless
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Are you not aware of the reveue sharing..?? i am absolutely aware of it
