QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) i agree with this. plus, you'd have to think that considering his recent struggles and contract he could be had at a bargain price. glavine has full no trade. there were reports that he would only go to ATL or somewhere in the northeast. i sure as hell hope he wouldnt come to the southside cuz i dont want him

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) It was said months ago that Gload probably wouldn't be able to play the OF all year because of his shoulder problems. Ozzie has also said that he wants someone who can play the OF. And after watching Dye serve as a decent backup in limited action, it made sense that Gload really wasn't needed. 1 game a decent backup does not make

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) I'd love that, I really would. The thing is, we're not getting rid of Konerko this year. We can dream, though. not me.... casey is nothing more than a fat, slow, bad defensive firstbaseman. yeah he hits for a nice average, but hes a singles hitter with limited power and 0 speed. If you are gonna be a singles hitter, you best be able to run. add in the fact that he makes 8 million and ill say no thank you. id rather have gload hit .265 with 15 homers over a full year for $300,000 than casey hit .305 with 15 homers for 8 million

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) It was good to see...along with Contreras' performance, it made me not worry about any trades... yeah marte was agressive with his fastball, which we hadnt seen from him in a while

QUOTE(luvforbseball @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) Hi guys! I'm a new member. I'm from Salisbury NC and have had season tickets with Kannapolis Intimidators for years..although I dont have them this year. I love to keep up with the minor league organization! Is there a list of prospects I can pick from if I want to adopt one? I was thinking Ricky Brooks (were from the same college---go ECU!). Go Sox! Jancie yeah, what you have to do is go to the futuresox message board on the mainpage of soxtalk.com. thats mainly where youll find the minor league happenings. within that page there is a link to the adopt a prospect page where you can add brooks if you wish. welcome aboard

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) ok, first of all, the guy who suggested that gload is in the minors cuz he aint latino is just dumb. first sheffield accuses managers of having only white reserve players, now someone accuses guillen of only having latinos. that is just stupid. especially because guillen if you paid attention at all last year, absolutely loves ross gload. to me, its my personaly opinion that ross will be on the team at some point, and i think they are holding him in AAA because there is a trade in teh works. if not, then its gload vs. timo vs. willie and you have to look at what each player brings to the table. gload has the best power, willie speed, and timo clutch hitting. its a tough call, in my opinion willies lack of bunting ability really hurts him, but man after watching dave roberts in the playoffs last year i feel like we need a guy off the bench simply to run and grab a base if thomas gets on or something. maybe ozuna can do that too, but i just dont trust him as much. its a tough call, im glad i dont have to make ok nevermind. i just read in the article from chisox that guillen likes timo on teh bench because he is latin and adds to the chemistry that way. so i was dead off. my apologies. i still think when this is done with that gload will be on teh team

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Luke Hovechar (spelling) won the Clemens Award. Lance had better numbers in every catergory, but in the end Hovechar won because of the more notable conference, Big 12 and probably the fact that Lance really came on his Junior year. hochever was in the SEC

There is a chat on baseballamerica.com at 3 Ct. where you can talk to lance broadway, cesar carillo, luke hochever just before they announce which of the pitchers will win the Roger Clemens award, given to the best college pitcher. good luck lance

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) I don't think its arguable at all. I think he's a great prospect. But he certainly has proved he's not major league ready. yeah true, but i think a team looking for a major league ready pitcher means they dont want some guy in A ball who is still 2-3 years away ie gio

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) I think it's known we are trying to get Burnett. It won't foreshadow getting Day from the Nats. its the other way around....us nearly acquiring day could foreshadow us trying to get burnett (even tho thats known, its just a foreshadow of a potential deal). it adds another facet to the rumors. if teh fish want a major league ready pitcher, the sox have to give up mccarthy or someone on the current roster. if the sox dont want to do that, they can acquire another pitcher such as day and spin him off to the fish. it nearly happened, thats why i mention it http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sside14.html

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:16 AM) Why speculate now? It didn't happen. because it could be a foreshadow of what is to come

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Looks like we have a few guys making a mockery of the Pioneer League. Brandon Allen is putting up Barry Bonds type numbers. Torres has some nice stats, so does Rote and Richard. Which of these guys are age appropriate/prospects? rote was an 05 draftee, 5th round, drafted as a sr. outa vandy. righty with a power arm and control problems, but has torn it up with great falls so far. to be honest that league probably isnt as tough as the SEC though, so we'll see how it goes for him. i would expect him to be bumped to A ball by the end of the year

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 07:33 AM) :puke what do you guys think of the fact that we were almost involved in the nats deal for preston wilson? sounded like it woulda been a big 4 way deal or so, with us giving col prospects, wilson to nats, chisox gettin day, and then spinning day off for "bigger acquisition." to me since the marlins/giants are looking for a major league ready pitcher, and we dont wanna give up bmac, this sounds like it had burnett/schmidt written all over it

classy, too bad hawkaroo ran him outa town

QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) Who doesn't? Hmm, maybe my family's just weird. I'd still trade Sirotka for the beef sandwich, sans pepperoncinis. gotta use giardinara (sp?) jardinara?

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) One-dog and Kenny Lofton, LOL! As much hype as Cameron got defensively, I always thought Chris Singleton was at least as good in CF... Young has worked extremely hard at his arm strength/accuracy. He has gone from Below-average in spring last season to at least an average arm. It will not be something that holds him back any longer, although if he and Anderson ever wind up in the same OF, I might move Chris to LF if I had a capable RF'er alongside. dont forget johnny damon, looks like a girl, and throws like one too. on another note, sweeney and anderson both have cannons, and like jermaine dye, they were both two way players as well. some wanted to draft sweeney as a pitcher, and anderson did pitch in relief for arizona. most ppl dont know that about dye, his canon arm comes from the fact that he was originally drafted by teh braves as a pitcher

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) when in this country did it become a crime for people to change their minds? i mean, i don't want to defend a lot of these guys, but they are paid for instant analysis and anyone who has to analyze anything immediately is likely going to have a different view a few months down the road. besides, it's not like their flip-flopping on abortion or the death penalty. it's a game, an important one to many of us but a game nonetheless. exactly, well put

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) I have to admit I was relying on Griffey's past and stature as a measure of his D. I didn't bother to crunch the numbers. Yes, it's possible Juggs can put together a post w/out looking at the numbers. When I do you guys always catch me on it http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fieldi...llInningsPlayed 05 F% AR 13th .990, KGJ 16th .985 05 IP AR 7th 717, KGJ 12th 680 05 TC AR 14th 191, KGJ 10th 199 05 A AR 23rd 2, KGJ 17th 3 05 RF AR 17th 2.37, KGJ 10th 2.60 05 ZR AR 4th .923, KGJ 22nd .820 Cincy pitchers are generating more hits right at KGJ than White Sox pitchers are for Rowand. But Rowand is covering a LOT more ground than KGJ these days. Griffey has the better arm, but a 3-2 assist advantage is insignificant. I think it's time some of you start giving Aaron props. 2004 ZR AR 1st .921 KGJ DNP enough The Southtown obviously does not value Rowand enough either to even suggest KGJ. Post season championships are won on pitching, big plays, & big hits. Aaron has a better chance of helping all 3 categories than KGJ. Let's just hope Aaron starts hitting again but like Crede his glove talent has earned him that everyday player status. i believe baseball prospectus had rowand #2 in the league in defense for a center fielder, ranked by one of their goofy stats. behind hunter i think. rowand is certainly a terrific center fielder, and probably the most underrated in the game. if i was to make a list i would go jones, cameron (even tho the mets stupidly moved himfor beltran), hunter, rowand

QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) There is also one on the quality Sox LHs, Liotta and Gio. Too long to type that one in. Anyone who does not agree Chris Young is the best prospect in our org right now is nuts. it is online...ill copy it http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/050708pulse.html

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:23 AM) Griffey is hitting better than Rowand, but it worse on defense. You are willing to sacrafice the only thing that is making this team good? We can go back to having zero defense and hitting hr's if thats what you like. Then you can see the pretty fireworks. Secondly, Griffey is not coming here. We dont need him, we have a clubhouse and defensive cornerstone in his position and already have too many OF'ers. He is paid too much and there are more likely suitors for him. This discussion is dead and pointless. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. "a simple wrong would have done just fine"

QUOTE(quade36 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) I don't know if anyone saw it, but it was actually quite good. Yes, a positive piece on the White Sox!!! They first had Carlos Lee talk about the team, then Konerko Talk about Lee, then Pods talk about how he has so much respect for the organization and its fans because he had no idea he'd ever beat out people from New York. Then Mr. Bandwagon jumper himself, Peter Gammons, talked about how little kids should look at the Sox and how they play as a team. They are doing everything right. He also gave credit to what the Sox did after the Lee/Pods trade. He said he talked to Ken Williams right after the trade and Williams said he wasn't done with this yet. And how they got AJ, Iguchi, and Hermanson because they freed up money. My only question is how come this wasn't talked about when it happened???? All the ESPN guys said what a horrible trade it was for the Sox cause Lee was a perenial all-star. Now they are giving Williams props???? I hate to scratch my head with positive publicity, just because we don't get much, but it makes me think that these guys really do know whats going on, but care more about the story at the time then the truth. its how it is. come on i mean they are gonna call it like they see it. at first they didnt see it as a good trade, or the sox as a good team. now they do. of course they are gonna flip flop like that. yes they were wrong about this team in the first place, but dont slam them for changing their minds now, because now they realize that the chisox are good. good lord, people on this message board will go to any length toj ust complain about something. at first people complain that media bashed the trade. now that they give it some credit you wanna go and say that the media is hypocritical. no. they were wrong, realized their mistakes, and now say what is truly correct. if you are gonna bash, bash for being wrong, not for "jumping on the bandwagon" sheesh

this one is not hard. griffey is the better hitter. period. rowand right now is the better fielder. rowand less of an injury risk. the offensive output upgrade griffey would add is not worth the prospects or cash.

who have we beaten.. weve beaten minnesota (2nd in AL in pitching behind chisox) LAA (3rd) cleveland(4th) detroit (5th) toronto (7th). the only team we didnt beat was oakland who is 6th. true, we beat the drays and royals (14th and 13th), but we are supposed to beat those teams. what good pitching are you afraid of? The big bad yankees and red sox?? well they are ranked 10th and 12th in the league in pitching. we will get a steady dose of MIN pitching in the second half but thats nothing we havent faced and beaten already.
