Crimsy...have YOU ever loved and wished you lost?

Yep, with his 45-yo voting record and activist platforms, how could anyone not believe he's a GOP plant. *Apu chorus* Nader's such a douche Anyone but Bush! Some people still can't get over the fact that it's wasn't Ralph Nader who squandered the 2000 election for the Dems. It wasn't even Katharine Harris. It was ALL AL GORE.

Yeah there is a difference between Shammy, the Easy Roider who hits 55 hr, drives in 140 runs with a 1000+ OPS....and the skinny dude who hits 35 hr with 175 Ks and a 900 OPS. I'll take the latter to go.

Where can Maggs go realistically aftre this year?
BrandoFan replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's NEVER a good thing. It tires and frustrates the pitcher. And not only does the hitter on deck get a better look at the release angles and break, but the batter himself benefits greatly in subsequent at bats. Kenny Lofton would often come up to lead of the b-game and foul of 4-5 borderline pitchers and take a couple more, so even if he ended up striking-out or grounding out weakly, the next 4 at bats he was ON every pitch, in every location because he pretty much saw everything the first time around. You're right about Giants making it to the Series. What was I thnking! Here's to Great Cub Implosion 2004 Heck, I'll take Steroid Scandal Rocks The Cub Nation at this point. -
I do too. I professed undying love for everything mystical, mythologial, metaphorical and miraculous; I even cut Moses and Noah some slack, for crying outloud. I, too, believe.... However, when all one could come up with is "But this was Jesus!" while, say, skimming through Crossand's engrossing research, I get an uneasy feeling. Total faith is great and all, but when things are passed off as fact in a secular literalist sense, I dunno.... And it's not as if Bob is a hard-line Christian. That threw me off a bit.

I don't know him personaly, that's correct. Fortunately I know enough ABOUT him. But whatever. Calling him what he is. If the mantlia fits as it were. I could care less what you or anyone else think of my credibility and pretty much stated so a few posts back. See how cool I am? Why don't you do some research AND then make-up your mind. I liked Braveheart as much as the next guy and Mel's 80's oeurve is nothing if not solid, but come on-- if you haven't even heard of Ann Catherine Krazyb****facestein, the stigmata, the hallucinations, er, prophecies -- something that even I am familiar with.....then what's the point of carrying on? And some need a sense of justice and historical truth and progress and compassion. Mel and his father and their break-away sect fail in all departments, quite spectacularly IMO. Let them chant in Latin and Aramaic to their hearts' content. Just don't pass it off as anything more than that. Do your own research. Entertainment Weekly Online excluding. Google is there for a reason. So are libraries. Encylopedia software. Reputable newspapers, worst comes the worst.......I am not CW, I will not help you. Then again, you'd still find an excuse to justify anti-V2nik beliefs and traditions. People need to believe, maybe it's the Gospels that are anti-semitic, etc. Nothing short of Gibson revealing his Hitler affiliation (not saying he is) will change the scepticism on part of his defenders. No suprise there. Christians have been doing that for the better part of 2000 years now. Somewhat less in the last 40 years. Now the Jews are blamed for HALF the ills of this world instead of for ALL of them. What a laugh. . They aren't? I don't have any special agenda. I am a liberal and yet pro-Israel. And yet I am not religious even if I grew up with religious people around me as you claim to have. Nor am I an atheist even though that was the official position of the State.. I am agnostic with an ever-so-slight religious leaning and an enourmous curiosity. Until this topic was brought up in the Israel vs Palestine thread weeks ago, I never had ANYTHING to say about Mel Gibson, positive or negative, on this board. Is he a washed-up, overrated (as an actor AND director) asshole who's done some s***ty things in his youth, to some of which he admits, and who might just be manic as FSJ put it? Sure, but then again, among the H-wood elite such distinctions aren't exactly uncommon. His strict religious positions didn't interest me THAT much. So no, no agenda for me. Just calling it how I see it. Ironic? lol And if Passions turns out to be nothing more than escapist Braveheart of Nazareth epic with Jim "Angel Eyes" Caviezel as ethnically-correct Gee-Us, I would be the first one to admit I was wrong about the MOVIE if not about Gibsons or their faith. Who knows, perhaps after all the profit-driven controversy, he may choose to EDIT OUT all the propaganda s***. I hope so. I woud gladly choose to be WRONG about the flick than to have my apprehensions confirmed.

Nothing. Sox would love to get rid of Jose and drop the payroll under the 60 Mill mark as they have been planning all along. Jose will see a ton of fastballs in the Yankee line-up and Frank didn't call him a very good fastball hitter for nothing. Jose will love that 312 LF line--most of his homers are pulled anyway and with bigger opposite gap he'll have a few more blooping doubles taht are just caught at USCF as well. Both teams benefit and so does Jose.

You know...technically, thinking that only 200,000 Jews died in the concentration camps and the rest of the "damage" has been fabricated by the sinister Zionist Cabal IS admitting that the Holocaust happened. I am just saying. Same as Bob, you admit that you're not particularly familiar with this whole issue, with Mel, his family, his church, with gospels, with Ann Catherine Krazyb****facestein, history and cause of pogroms and persecution, with Hitler's love for Passion plays, etc. So how can you be so sure that you're NOT being duped, taken for a ride, hoodwinked, bamboozled? That would be akin to a hockey fan with a limited exposure to baseball commenting on the ongoing steroid crisis in the MLB and using Barry Bonds's "no, I would never be on the juice....Of course not, that would go against every tenet of my faith and against the very spirit of integrity of this beautiful game!!" as some kind of proof. People say what they feel others need to hear, what's expedient and potentially profitable. Diane Sawyer has no truth wand last time I checked. I have yet to see the full version of the movie myself. Mel Gibson, the manic bigoted scumbag liar that he is (and partially admits to being, btw), does not deserve any benefit of the doubt, but I will graciously accord it to him anyway. Who knows, maybe he edited out all of the silly propaganda s*** and we end up being treated to the Braveheart of Nazareth, kickass Aramaic-style.

If you feel that way, fantastic. Your feelings are your own business. Too bad science not to mention the courts disagree with you. Also, your feelings are invalidated when it concerns the rights of OTHERS. Do you even get that concept? Apparently not. Don't like the abortion? Don't have it. Spare me the s***ty slavery/genocide analogies. If anything, much like Black slaves 100 years before them, women's ovaries were finally freed from the great oppression perpetrated by the ignorant and hostile public. I wish you would have. Hey, I am perfectly aware that it's a big world and that people in it are bound to believe all sorts of things, nonsense included. Earth is flat, you know...... It's when those unsubstanciated, inconsistent, visceral (if you see the sonogram blablabla) beliefs start to infringe upon the basic rights of OTHERS, then we have a BIG problem on our hands. . I am pro-abortion, preferrably only the chemical one during the first trimester. Anything after that, there better be a damn good excuse and a heavy financial penalty to boot. But I would never judge anyone, either way. Yay for liberal me! I may respect their views (or I may not), especially when they come from the heart/conscience. I may even agree with them--- as I partially do in this case. However, such respect and consideration ENDS at the gates to the Supreme Court and the Congress. Certain rights and freedoms take precedence over "feelings" and "beliefs" that are ill-justified from scientific or legalistic, and some would argue even from moral standpoints. Such an inflexible, indiscriminate stance betrays the underlying ignorance and lack of compassion if not total contempt for the (young) woman. "I find the whole thing extremely unsavory and, besides, Bible says it's wrong. If I allow it to continue, God will blame me as well, Soddom and Gammorah-style. There will be no Heaven for me then. Therefore, I must do everything to prevent that from happening. Embryo = real person. Who cares how it got there-- the woman's life must be ruined for the sake of ill-formed collection of cells with a potential to some day become a feeling, thinking, full-fledged human regardless of the circumstances of the conception itself. I shall sleep better, too.". I could MAYBE understand partial birth arguements. Maybe. Banning it creates a very dangerous legislative precedent, but at least I can sympathize and understand the grusome nature of the procedure.......But this unapologetic appeasing of the nosey, the sanctimonious, the uninformed, the cowardly, the unreasonable, the bigoted? No way. Speaking of which........What if I told you I wouldn't support a politician who runs a negative ad ridiculing his opponent for supporting the death penalty "even in the cases of self-defense"? Instead I feel the former should have gone with the more apt "at least he is not a hypocrite like myself". Afterall, if you've ever been to a morgue where your dear relative layed lifeless on a metal gourney, you would understand that death is death is death, and that it makes no difference if it's a 1st degree murder or self-defense -- such is my belief anyway and who are you to marginalize my feeelings........Do you get it now, Bob? Crystal. Should not have wasted my time with you. Next thread stop: Over-populationville.

There was your first mistake. Believing what that ignorant bigoted tool actually says in a heavily edited interview that could have made or broken the movie's BO/his career and for which he had the better part of 4 years to prepare for. FSJ pointed out a few of the more telling moments. His comparing Jews to Nazis even though the Romans were the ones playing the role of Nazis was hysterical. I literally laughed outloud. You see, he doesn't hate the Germans for what..... If you do not buy into what CW or others say, do some research. The anti-Semitism charge transcends the "literalist interpretation" of the vaguely anti-semitic and ahistorical new testament and gospels.

-You take drugs, Danny? -Yes, sir. -Good. By now it's probably worn out and copied beyond belief. But the first time you hear it in the beginning of the movie, that familiar Chevy Chase flattening inflection-- catches catches by surprise....Only matched by the Dalai Lama BM bit.

It's all about Bill Murray. Between his cameos in kingpin, rushmore, royal tenembaums....comedy HOF IMO. Him and Phil Hartman....SNL's existence is justified.

There are certain things I can/will never understand in life. Sox fans satirizing Ron Santo's amputations and cancer is one of them. The above attitude is another. You said that you aren't a Bible freak. You also said that morning after pill is not that big of a deal in your opinion. Then how can you justify the above? HOW? A teen is molested by her Dad. Within a few days/weeks she musters up courage, seeks help and is administered a rape kit during which it is discovered that she is pregnant. How in all that's Holy can ANYBODY who isn't a conscience-free religious fanatic actually be against abortion period (let alone a chemical one) in that case or under similar cirumstaces? It wouldn't be hypocrisy on part of that politician. And even if it was.....give me that kind of hypocrisy over the truly heartless, inflexible alternative (no abortion ever!) any damn day of the week. We are bending backwards trying to understand every point of view, no matter how arbitrary and ignorant-- yes, ignorant-- as FSJ and others put it, life technically begins WAY before "conception" and nature actually has its own way of aborting more than 50% of "living separate persons", to say nothing of the fetus not being aware/not feeling pain in the early stage of pregnancy. If some (and technically I am one of them!) believe life begins at blablablabla just because they feel like believing, because their parents believed that, because the idea of abortion repulses them and/or simply because some Book tells them....you cannot stop them. You can't control thoughts. Nor should you attept to even if you could. But if they, the morality merchants, actually want to put it into LEGISLATION/CONSTITUTION, thus affecting the very lives of tens if not hundreds of thousands of OTHER people.....f*** 'EM. . At some point, enough is enough.

I see your point, Soxy. Of course, those of us who are PRO-contreaception, ANTI-overpopulation and PRO-freedom of personal choice might not always understand that POV, but I can see its legitimacy.

I should have gone with the conventional :puke :fyou

But WHY? You speak from the personal experience or just in general? Or both? There ain't nothing wrong with wanting a boy, esppecially if you love sports, I guess....but you mentioned girl-scout cookie thing as some horrible experience and it was kinda hilarious. YMMV.

Who would win the misery-off, ED or Sylvia Plath? Or maybe a dark horse, Marianne Moore?

It was? I thought the kid asked Crash to hit a....ah, nevermind. You're wrong. How about telling me why being a girl was/is such a drag? I asked you in the abortion thread meremembers.

1. Didn't CW already go over this, many, many times? Mel Gibson's denomination is the definition of gospelic and historical selectivity, of hypocrisy and bigotry. It's not the Bible....although its ahistorical nature certainly "helps". Did I also not tell you in the abortion thread that using your noggin' in just the right way, you can JUSTIFY/EXPLAIN/DEBUNK almost anything and everything. For instance, I can make a connection between a single birth of an unwanted child into the already over-populated disbalanced world, to a person(s) grossely unqualified to rear it.....invariably leads to "extra" poverty, misery, sickness, destruction and early death of 10,000 people 150 years from now. By making a conscious decision to have that "extra" child, you basically, in some way, commit oppression/genocide. And so forth. So it's extremely EASY for a hateful-but-smart-as-a-whip individual to make a case for not only Jews killing Christ, but also for God wanting Jews to suffer/die for this reason or that. Complete with examples, textual evidence, sound arguementation, etc. Hitler was one of the more prominent examples. Mel Gibson is just a putz, but don't put anything past him or his daddy-o Hutton. Cinema can be a destructive tool in the wrong hands. I hope I am wrong about Passions. 2. Hey, don't look at me. Moses might have parted the Red Sea, or it might have been caused by a cataclysmic event, or else was totally hallucinated or made-up. Maybe it shouldn't be taken literally. Who knows. Not me. 3. I am a big fan of everything metaphorical, mystical, miraculous, etc....But come-f***ing-on -- this is even worse than #1 because at least there you had to come up with hard evidence, make logical connections and a good deal of waxing abtract....Whereas here you could simply defer to your "faith" and to God's great Everything-ness -- and it ends the debate......."But this was Jesus!" exactly. Another reason why government, military, medicine, economy, science, education, etc must all remain as secularized as possible. Hell, if I were in a Mark Twanian mood, I'd probably call for the secularization of the Church.... 4. Yep.....comparing Jesus/Pre-destination to a mediocre vision of a Phillip Dick fiction.... :headshake
