Brett Favre's dad dies from heart attack
BrandoFan replied to Elcaballo45's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I would be just crushed, pacing back and forth, chanting something, thinking about evetthing and nothing, about life and memories over and over....and crying my ass off unstoppably eventually. Incapacitated for at least month and generally grieving for a year or three..... f*** work, f*** the streak. Soul-less Americans, working the next day, almost relieved not to be dealing with annoying parent anymore. "Suffering doesn't teach you anything"? f*** you Veeck. I better call my parents again even tho i spoke to them like yesterday. Life is short. -
I think back to when people had long hair and interesting haircuts and wore actual hats to express their style and uniqueness. Now.....Margi Gras....baseball caps....J-Lo'ers....Man, was I born 3 eras too late or what?!

Sosa was making 15-16 Mill in the last few years. You must have him confused with Delgado, Manny and Bonds. Sosa is an INTERNATIONAL superstar and a Chicago icon. That's a few extra (tens of) million he brought to the table over a few years. Sosa was the best slugger in baseball in 1998-2000 and had an even better year in 2001 only overshadowed by ascention of Bonds. Nomar could hang with him in 1998-2000, but not anymore and certainly NOT away from Fenway. Yeah being a solid fielder at SS is more important than RF, but this 15- 20 Mill a year talk is ridiculous. Especially if you have a 55-58 Mill payroll. -

Goddamn right is what you are. I am sure I've said it before, but only Bonds/ARod/Pedro/Prior deserve that kind of (20+% od the payroll) money, the latter two because they can single-handedly change the course of playoff series pitching on 3-day rest. Well, maybe Sammy Sosa in his prime (1998-2001) as he not only produced like no other but was a HUGE name that not only sold the Cubs but also baseball. In basketball, you can give the ball to MJ in every possession if you want and he can guard and shut down the best player of your oppoent's......In hockey, Mario Lemeiux plays the majority of minutes, EVERY power play, every shorthand and Martin Bradeur/Dominik Hasek can potentially single-handedly change games EVERY NIGHT of season and playoffs (without Guerrer in 2003, Anaheim doesn't even make it past Detroit).........Even in football, Bret Farve and Joe Montana had the ball on EVERY play. Basicall is different. It's just is. An impact of one player is smaller and so the salary should be reflective of that. The only way Maggs is worth 14 Mill to the Sox is if he puts up HOF numbers (975-1000+ OPS) year in and out and/or our payroll is 75 Mill. Neither is likely. And he wants an unreasonable 5/75. At least Albert Belle had it in him to drive in 160-170 runs in if the conditions are right.... -
Of course 3/18 including deferred and incenstives is s***! He wouldn't come to the Sox for anything less than 3/22-25. This team has bad rep and with Escobar, Redman and Colon getting what they got, other teams will pay more than 18.

Since 1992 (when healthy and away from Comerica/Detroit) he's been one of the best run producers in the game. Scary RO player. HOF "talent" for sure even if he might not amass the numbers due to healthy problems and less-than-commited attitude. At barely 34, he might have as many as 5 good years left in him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches 600 homers before his career is finished. How many hitters with 575-600+ homers/1700+ RBI aren't in the Hall again? I was surprised to find out that he absolutely SMOKED RHPs in 2003 and had some difficulty with LHP and not the other way around, the batspeed and plate coverage are still there. If he corrects that little Carlos Lee-sque glitch, watch out-- 130+ RBI time. -
Man, that's some interesting perspective and approach to music. Rare to see someone put aside all the cliches and actually has an independent taste grounded in decades of instense musical experience and study . Which "Jimi" did you mean, tho? Page or Hendrix. Satriani and Vai are very familiar to me. A lot of people mention Lynch at this point. And Rhodes. What happened to Keith Richards? lolol BBK? How about drummers, is it true that most rock/metal drummers are notorioius for their poor musical education and sense of rhythm and imagination as compared to true jazz drum mavericks?

Great news. Looking back to 2002 in particular, there were so many games that I wish I heard through SnR. And I keep hearing about these celeb call-ins by the The Critic.....what was that all about? you got any recs of that? Cops being mic'd? HAHA I hope you're not planning to get rid of the .wave stuff like in the next 3-4 months if possible.

Now I am overly optimistic?! Wow. Thanks. Who is "we"? The overwhelming majority of people on this board are DEDICATED and LOYAL fans who put their (often mid- and small- sized) WALLETS where their damn mouth is, and have FUN going to games and hang out, and would LOVE NOTHING more than to see the World Championship Trophy on the SouthSide of the best f***ing city in the world. Alas, it's thanks to (cheap and/or fairweather) "fans" like YOU that will never happen. Give me ONE lovable dumbass yuppie Cub fan (preferrably an inebriated co-ed) over TEN whinny, self-entitled, hypocritical johnny come lately b****es like you. With all due respect.

Is there any way to publish it on SoxTalk message forum or to e-mail it to me? People say 2002 season was the funniest/best. What file size are we talking about here? Thanks, much appreciated.

One Gonzalez is a name. Maggs was a semi-name. JG is a HOF talent even if on decline. Maggs is an All-Star talent also over 30. Gonzo can be had for 5 Mill + insentives; Maggs is at 14 Mil With Magglio on payroll, this team is grasping for air financially. It's extremely sad but true. -
Damn, damn, damn! Mad respects to everyone who brought it to life and left it all out there on the field, er, beer stained couch. Don't sell yourselves short, at your most phone-it-in-iest you guys were still better and funner than all MLB announcers not named 'Hawk'........I know I laughed my ass off among, um, other things while listening to SnR broadcasts in 2003. It will be greatly missed. I hope somewhere there exists a compilation tape, Best of or the Rowdiest of or Stupidest of. There better be. RIP

There aren't many songs out there that are as sing-able and joyful as Seven Seas of Rhye.

I thought Billy would hypnotize Redman (especially in light of the latter's pitiful excuse for playoff performance) as he did Mulder into signing for something like 2-year/4.5 deal plus signing bonus. I guess Billy's magical spinning umbrella doesn't work anymore.

Nothing; he drove in 140 runs. ? Because the thump that ruined 2002 was not the injury he suffered in 2003 after he drove in 70 in 320 atbats. Nobody likes nagging injuries but be thankful that he doesn't have Vladdy's disc or Nomar's wrist...... Why? You're forgetting you're talking about one of the MOST prolific run-producers of his generation here, an absolutely deadly hitter when healthy. If he was 37-38, I might understand, but at relatively young 34, he has another couple of years left in the tank. Again, he is simply NOT the OBP kinda guy. As I told Rex, lay off the Beane pipe. -
Why? Your wish is my command: I might add "no chronic hip condition" to the list as well as the fact he doesn't hit into as many DPs and is faster despite his weight. Sorry, but I'll take Simon to hit against RHP at 1.5 Mill than Konerko to full-time at 17/2 years. Konerko (as well as White, Rios, Koch) is the reason why we failed in 2003 and just traded Maggs if you wanna be honest.

Haven't we been over this already? He is over the thumb problem that ruined 2002 and can still drive in runs. I wouldn't mind him as a #5 hitter if the price is right. Hopefuly his legs hold up. -
It didn't work because it was no shot. Paranoid much?

On the contrary-- kissing your sister can occasionally lead to heavy petting, panty-ripping and some unbelievably hot-ass sex. Just ask your parents. And your point is simply pathetic. The 2000 team could have EASILY caught fire and spanked everybody in the playoffs-- they certainly did smoke the Yankees and Mariners in the regular season and were Sirotka, Eldred, Parque, Howry and Baldwin second-half injuries (they continued to pitch but weren't the same and would undergo surgeries soon thereafter) away from winning 100+ games.....3 years ago my ass. If I am JR, I keep the money just to spite self-entitled poseurs like you.

I told you he throws bullets. I saw the replay of interception, it was not his fault but that of the WR off of whom it bounced.
-
Hell yeah. I also suggest Simon & Motherf***in' Garfunkel.

While I like AC/DC's brand of blues-streaked rock'n'roll a bit more than you (wait until you see 1.5+ Mill disaffected hard-core fans and policemen in Tushino Airport screaming and chanting Back in Black and Co so you can't hear even Brian Johnson), I do agree that ranking Shorty in top 10 of rock-n-roll quitarists of all time, which almost every publication does, is on the silly side. Speaking of which, who do you think are the 10 best of the best in Rock-n-roll/metal guitar in NO particular order? I bet I won't know half of your choices, lololol.....I hope no Ted Nugent, Van Halen, Rhodes or that Don Dokken Lynch dude. I like Jimmy Page and that rolling stones bandana dude cracks me up.
