  1. Don't worry, in two weeks you won't have to be frightened like that anymore
  2. With Magglio likely gone, Carlos will be asked to hit #4, unless Sox get Juan Gonzalez-type producer.
  3. I like the way you think, each game against your divisional rival counts as two. The problem is, KC, not Minnesota, is likely to be our biggest rival. Yes, probably so. And, he should be hitting LHP BETTER than RHP, not as well. His 900+ OPS versus RHP was, off the top of my head, probably THE best of any AL righty. If he could muster 950 (hell Aaron f***ing Rowand has something like 850) against LHP, he'll be worth every penny of his 6.5 Mill in 2004. Jauggs, what's your take on Ordonez/LA situation? There is a 3-page thread somewhere near the top discussing this very thing. Join it.
  4. Of course he has money. He is a rich man. He didn't become rich by blowing lots and lots of it on a baseball team. And he is not about to lose HIS and his partners' profit so YOU can watch the team win a few more games on public TV. Get your (and your fellow Sox fans') ass to the park, eat a lot of nachos, buy every T-shirt and baseball poster you can find......In short, make JR a TON of cash and he will graciously up the payroll by 10-15 Mill. Help HIM help YOU. End of story.
  5. Yeah, 20 SB in 33 attempts maybe. Ok, I'll play along.....Lee's career OPS is 870 and he's primed to go over 900 in 2004. Because he is only 24, he might actually challenge 950. Yeah, he went from terrible (1999-2000) to bad (2001-2002) to average (2003). He might win the Gold Glove in 2006. If only Wynn, Jones, Anderson, Crawford, Matsui and Stewart didn't stand in the way. . Absolutely!
  6. I tend to agree. Of course same time LAST year Magglio could have netted us much more.
  7. 6.5 Mill was the consensus. Why do you ask?
  8. . Let's hope you're right. He is now getting the 3-4 spot hitter money, so he BETTER live up to it. I'll take 875 OPS, 120 RBI and 15 steals and less than 15 GIDPs. How does RH with as much talent as Lee have a 630 OPS versus LHP? That's simply ridiculous, and is the only barrier separating him from stardom.
  9. Jauggs, you make it sound like his "instristic value" is 9-10 Mill per and Sox were lucky to grab him at 7.5 Mill. (((Never mind the fact that to the Yankees he may indeed be worth 8-9 mill whereas anything over 6 Mill is stretching for the moneyless Sox, especially in light of the nice little fact that we still have some 36 Mill worth of Ordonez, Konerko, Kock, Valentin, Ownedwiess on the roster.))) He is an 814 career OPS LF'er with average defense, for pete's sake! Other than faring better in the clutch in 2003 than usual (aberration?), he didn't show anything he hadn't shown before. He is still ALL potential and I am for one am TIRED of waiting......Again, at 3-4 Mill, it's one thing. At 7.5? He better have another career year in 2004. Mr. Pull better not ground into 20 DPs again either. And baserunning? Do you honestly think Lee with utterly average speed, excessive weight and (prior to 2003) bad instincts is = anything close to 18 steals in 21 attempts again in 2004? If so I have a floating casino to sell you in Kiev. Mark Liptak's Biggest Fan
  10. I liked Carlos a WHOLALOT more when he was making 2.7 Mill in 2002.
  11. I have no use for your vulgar word-play.
  12. Yes, because mediocre > bad
  13. Rob is gettin' down like it's 1999. No seriously, in 1999 Nomar was easily as good as A-Rod and Manny was much better than Maggs....Since then, the former two regressed while the latter-- improved.
  14. Bye-byegglio. I was hoping it would be 2-year/11 or 12 tops. His defense is average at best and 2003 was a career baserunning year. Knows a little bit about GIDP as well. First Valentin. Colon offer. Then Buerhle. Now Lee. This franchise is speding money like.....it has it.
  15. He really said that? Holy f***ing s***, I thought it was an urban legend. It must be awful difficult dragging around balls that size.
  16. Lights out is damn right. From the beginning of ST all the way to late April his Ave-Against and ERA were just UNHUMAN. And since then, he been very mediocre. 800K? Good job.
  17. No, but her redbird does. (jk heather)
  18. Yep. But hey, the publicty he got out of it was worth it
  19. People say Jackson will be challenging for 4-5 spot as early as 2004 and can be the RH man we need to reaplce Tom Gordon. Then you get Mota which would make the bullpen better than last year's. Then you guy Perez and his 5+ Mill as a Dodger salary dump. Another guy to light the fire under Judy's ass. And, of course, about 7 Million in CASH, which buys you One Gone or Palmeiro, who while not as good as Magglio anymore, are still help out. So in effect it's Gonzo + Mota + Jackson + Perez for Magglio "Unsignable" Ordonez. Of course it will never happen.
  20. Everything is possible, tho things like that are not easily projectable. I remember it like yesterday....."Barcelo tops out at 98 and doctors are not ruling out after Tommy John he might hit tripler digits"....."Jon Garland routinely reaches 94-96"......."His name is Kyle Kane and he throws 99"...... Danny Wright was supposed to top out at 97+ as well. They all lied. The only guy I can remember who gained velocity as he matured and moved out of organization was Kip Wells, who was 91-93 with us and 93-97 with Pittburgh. Are you saying Miller is CONSISTENTLY 95 or he touches 95 at times? I've always figured it's the former. Randy Johnson is the ONLY left-hander who throws with the kinda velocity you're expecting from this kid. Something is definately off.
  21. I would agree except El Psycho has so much raw talent it's scary. Tavarez and Navarro not in his league. People orgasm over Juan Cruz, yet Zambrano's stuff is every bit as filthy and unlike the Tooth Pick, he generates it without much leg kick, additional torque, etc, which only bodes well for his future. I do think he is a year or two older than stated, tho.
  22. So when are they arriving to the Tuscon camp?
