  1. Agreed, Pastime should be a wild card in Rookie Award IMO.
  2. You asked for it. Give people running this site a break, a benefit of the doubt.....what the f***! We all want to see Tex back believe me, but this is not nearly as one-sided an issue as you're making it out to be. He overreacted BIG-TIME at Jason's questionable decision. You're adding fuel to the fire with your threats. Offer sometihng constructive, I know you got it in you. I am a nobody on these boards, so I have no bias in terms of taking either side, so spare me.

Me geek? First time for everything I guess. Chet Atkins's contribution doesn't end with his playing.... , None of that dorky top 50 lists for me either. I mean the usual ranking break-down: terrible-bad-mediocre-solid-really good-great f*** the technique. I mean from the outcome/sound standpoint. Qaulity-wise, is Mark up there? Clapton? Brain May? I don't remember your answer about Aussie Agnus Young from way back- good or bad? As far Gilespie, I am thinking of Charlie Parker era, must be different Dizzy. Thanks in advance, I am learning a lot here.
  4. That's because MnSoxFan understands that a (money-tight) team needs a cheap, talented if enigmatic slugger driving in HUGE runs in BIG ballgames out of the 7th spot (sandwitched bewteen RH Crede and RH Rowand) against RHP almost as much as it needs a good OBP man at the top. Lay off the Billy Beane pipe.
  5. Yeah, and he was SO awful in RF that a normally super-forgiving JM never repeated the experiement again. Sorry, but Daubach is as much an outfielder as Konerko is a 3B. I am not diputing that, but if Simon can be had for under 1.7 Mill, do it without hesitation. This team CANNOT afford for Konerko to go into the tank in April and May in 2004; as soon as there is ANY semblance of him having difficulty hitting RHP, slide Simon in. It's about SURVIVAL with this team.

Wow I forgot about Princess Bride (Robin Wright.....in Russia in early-mid 90s, Santa Barbara soap reruns was so popular, so watched religiously that the guy who played Cruz got a bigger standing ovation when he visited Bolsoi than Pres. Clinton did!), what a hilarious movie even if dated, the real MP: Holy Grail of the 80s. Only heard 30 seconds of Once Upon the Time in the West (what an underrated Leone western, esp. Fonda and Robards, Ennio Maricone and Neil Young did solid job with soundtrack) on amazon.co and never heard the other 3 in top 5. Never read Hitchhiker's Guide. What is it about? Fluidity of sound is goddamn right. "Oh Romeo, yeah I used to have a scene with him..." Where would you rank Atkins and Knopfler as far as guitar chops? I didn't think anyone knew about those two in US when I posted the thread.
  7. What's wrong, PA, has this site mistreated YOU somehow? Were you itching to just STICK IT to the site? Go out with a bang? What is this smug, gloating s*** you keep inserting, is this FUN to you? Do you like ESPN because you feel superior since your posts are never ignored by trolls (how could they, there are no threads there?)? Or is this strictly "nobody puts, er, locks up baby's posts in the corner" type a deal with you? If so.....F you PA.
  8. And I want Mota, Miller and Jackson. I also want for Nomar's wrist to never have been f***ed up in the first place and that he hits better away from Fenway/at USCF. And that Willie Harris has a 360 OBP. And that Garland develops a dangerous breaking pitch. And Jerry Reindorf bestows upon us a freshly-minted 75 Mill payroll. Etc.
  9. It's on page 10 or 11 in Post your props thread in Sox awards forum.
  10. You have angered and disappointed me. But I also won't let it affect the way I feel about your overall merits as a top poster. I only have 12 posting days left, I don't wanna spend them fighting with you.
  11. Loyalty? It's called f***ing "BASEBALL REALITY", why don't you check into it instead of spouting all this simplistic "he has no glove" crap. What's next? Are you gonna come back with the laughable "Even clayton out-hit Jose in 2002"? I mean he did have a slighly higher BA, so it must be true.......Oh and read my f***ing "pro-Valentin" reply. Gee, ya think? I've only said it a couple of dozen times myself. And as far as "guaranteeing" .600 record, it was clearly tongue-in-cheek, but the fact still remains: Sox HAVE been a .600 team in the past when Jose started at SS AND they were about .540 team in 2003 when he did, not that it proves anything. I do agree that Jose needs to knock off this RH-hitting s*** as it dilutes his production and hurts the team.
  12. The deal IMO is done. We get Williamson and Nomar.

FlaSoxxJim, what is your favorite 5 songs? Mine probably: Lady Writer Brothers in Ams Sultan of Swing Juliet Money for Nothing//sax part on YLT//Local Hero Theme but I have only heard The Best Of CD released in 1999. I am sure there are a ton of gems from their late-70s-mid-80s albums that didn't make. Also, I am hoping there is a recording of Atkins, Knopfler and Clapton together.
  14. I think it's funny as hell, with a great vibe.
  15. He should realize it was a misunderstanding and cut Jason some slack. If anybody has a right to make a mistake it's Jason. I am not in college and I KNOW how much I give up by posting on this forum-- and I am not even a Mod let alone an OWNER and Admin!!! It's been mentioned numerous times that Texsox is one of the funniest and finest posters we had. For a while I considered him a LEADER -type who, unlike most of us, wouldn't let something petty and almost accidental get to him. I was wrong on the latter, but I am still convinced in the former. Hopefully he cools down. This is the last thing this site needs. Crimson and Rudler still posting and Tex not.
  16. Not bad. Some of it of course is luck.
  17. Great f***in' post, IlliniBob. You're right about "slightly increased" attendance of 1.9 in 2003 and a lot of it was PADDED with half-price nights, kids days, free tickets-- ask Red Sox fans what it's like have an outing of 4 at Fenway.........But, hey, Red Sox fans are not like our blue-collar folks who can't afford games and have to work in the mornings. Rule of Thumb (not to be confused with Donald. L. Thumb, the fictional colleague of late Leo Strauss): every extra 100,000 fans = roughly 2.5 Mill in revenue at USCF. I wish JR would realize what an opportunity he wasted in 2002 and 2003 by trying to be as cheap as possible and open his wallet in 2004-2006. But it ain't happening..........So if fans want the payroll to go up by 15-20 Mill, the yearly attendance has to go over 2.6 Mill.
  18. I know that. I just think it's absolutely crazy. The only way it makes sense is if Texsox was already looking for ways out for a long time and this lock-up nonsense was enough of an excuse. Still, the dude was a great poster and he will be missed.
  19. Nobody argues that he no longer has his old range, arm and quickness. But as players age, they become BETTER fielder in terms of reliability (this has been proven by Bill James among others), so whatever Jose loses in terms of agility and ability to make a spectacular play, he will partly gain back by making fewer and fewer errors still. Just turned 34, still has a couple of good years left in him, which is all Sox ask. As for the Gold Glove article, a few things: 1. It doesn't measure the outs in terms of bases, so when Jose starts a tough double play or gets off a quick throw to just get the force out at 2nd/3rd on a play an average SS either goes to 1st or maybe even sticks in his pocket. 2. It doesn't adjust for errors that lead to runs scored. Just like nobody would dispute that a single with runner at 2nd is more "important" than a single with noone on, one should accept that an error with runner(s) on base with no outs is "worse" than an error with 2 outs and bases empty.........At the end, both in 2000 and to some extent 2003, Jose's errors led to LESS runs than they should have given the 55 errors.........UNless you wanna argue that Sox pitchers somehow perform harder after Jose makes an error in order to make him look better, you cut Jose some slack on his errors. I am amazed how SITUATIONAL defense never gets a mention while hitting and pitching do. For instance when he leapt up to take away Doug Jones's liner into the gap off Colon that would scored 2 runs and brough Twins into the very important Sept. game, he basically "saved" 2 runs. And it was only one play in 162 games. 3. So does #1-2 not solidify Jose even further as a GG'er? No, not really. The article is somewhat off in how many "plays" better Jose is than an average SS. I don't have the statistical proof (if I am wrong, I am happy to be wrong as it would finally shut "Jose is a horrible fielder" crew for good), but my instincts tell me it's more like 15-20 than 30-35. So, it wouldn't put Jose in Vizquel or A-Rod's class just yet. I think Jose blongs together with Garciappara, Berroa, Uribe and Tejada as a second echelon fielder. So Jose haters (cwsox, Molto, Chisoxfn, Dick Allen, you know who you are) may breathe a sigh of relief-- it's not really true; the only time Jose has ever fielded like a true Gold Glover was a 4-month period between May and Septemper of 2003, so forgive me if I consider the sample too small. I consider Val an average-fielding SS until proven otherwise. Next year will be a true test for Jose and Coach Santana to see if the new technique they implemented since May truly sticks and Jose can keep error total under 20. Time will tell. The writer of the arcicle (and many similar articles throughout baseball history) does get something right though: there is more to life than error totals. We must remember that even Ozzie Smith Himself had 5 or 6 seasons with 20+ errors.
  20. Why is Chisoxfn in best to add now? Why are there only 4 people in Funniest? Now, this is f***ing surreal.
  21. Get Randell Simon: --He is talented and young enough to improve. --He can hit righties, so if Konerko shows he is having troubles with them again, you can bench him without having AAAA Ross Glaud in there. --He was one of Cubs best clutch hitters down the stretch and in the playoffs, coming off the bench and driving in HUGE runs; the fact that he didn't get regular at bats didn't phase him one bit. Hello Brian Dabauch! --He is much better hitter with runners on base and is downright deadly with RISP. I am talking about 332 ba/915 OPS in last three years. --He is cheap. Ventura type money. Not a terrible 1B, either.
