Same difference. You know when you spell "overseas" as "overseason", f***ing baseball has fried your brian.

Yeah, that's what I meant. The guy is not much a singer, he's almost talking into the mic. Lyrics are ok at best, but suit the style. How would you chatacterize Dire Straits, in terms of genre? I don't know, I think Money For Nothing/MTV thing is campy as hell. Of course I wasn't around (no s***!) to hear it ran into the ground on the radio/TV (I hate what overexposure does to music, period.) I also like Lady Writer, again primarily because of his guitar/talking. Brothers in Arms guitar refrain is kinda good, too. The Saxophone part on Your Latest Trick is not bad as well. Walk of Life was a HUGE hit overseas, with very Huey Newton blue-collar appeal.
  3. I've wondered about that myself. If they win the WS (shudder), they;ll be just another embrassingly s***ty franchise. Of course, I am also idiot enough to think their historic meltdown will be remembered and replayed 30 years from now, while the country has already forgotten what that feisty franchise in Florida is called.....
  4. I'll get you in touch with a Cubs broker.

    Where would you rank him?

    Bastard. "I want my MTVeeeeeeeeeee......"
  7. This signing is a NON-news as this guy is not very good. His 2003 ERA was all kinds of deceptive. Yawn.
  8. No a correction would be "the word 'parallel' is spelled with two L's, kid". What CW gave you is a very important lecture, a valuable perspective that will hopefully jolt you into evolving into an all-around human being and a credit to society. Now let's not start underselling the virtues of Cubs misery and ladybit-fondling, ok? You had me up until that point.
  9. They were saying the same thing when Thomas Edison was a strappin' young lad given to chasing kites...
  10. It all depends which Arthur Rhodes we'd be getting: If it's AR of 2001-2002, then the Sox should have gotten him (except no money!) If it's AR of the OTHER 11 seasons of his career, he can go and f*** himself. Also, he is gonna be 35 next year, not exactly a spring chicken.
  11. Check out the "Pics/Avatars" thread above.
  12. Dude, don't pay no mind to the mofo, there is only ONE true winningugly83 on SoxTalk anyway. You been doing a fanstastic job with this place and people should get a life if they can't handle a few hours of server down-time. Talk about a non-issue, it's not as if their day-trading system is set-up through SoxTalk.
  13. Man would I love to see Garret Anderson on the SouthSide in the next 2-3 years or what! He's been the most underrated player in baseball in the last 2 years, he simply snuck up on everybody the same way his ex-teammate Jim Edmonds did after moving to NL...
  14. The way Scottie Pippen was "mistreated" I suppose.

    First MTV video......
  16. Ichiro probably deserves 3-5 Mill just because of the extra fans and attention he brings/brought to the Ms. Still, considering so much of his game has to do with speed and agility, giving him a 4 year deal at 11 Mill a year now that he is almost 30+?
  17. No, I know he is an El Cheapo Grande (like most everybody else in this world...wake up), but that doesn't excuse Sox fans' sins. They are not "shrewd"; they are "self-entitled self-styled victims". And, um, "unwise" as hell. The last part has to do with doing the same thing and expecting for different outcome. JR won't budge, so a (casual) fan's part of the equation becomes all that more pronounced. Who you they/you end up hurting with boycott nonsense are NOT JR, Eddie, investor panel, but THEMSELVES/YOURSELF (no winning team in sight, looking in both past and future direction), and.......what's worse, people who ARE loyal and committed and who deserve better. And you know what? Rex Hundler and cwsox went over this ad nauseum, read up on it. EDIT: Israel4ever, if Sox were to draw near 3 Mill fans AND JR refused to up the payroll to 70-75 Mill, THEN you'd have a point and one would have to consider fans' wrath justified......But as things are now, some major STFU is in order.
  18. I missed the reply, JAUGGS........ I agree I am over-simplifying it a little, BUT without PUDGE they lose BOTH game 3 AND 4 in NLDS, which means THEY ARE OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS.......and even if they DO manage to win one of those games by a miracle, they have Jason Schmidt licking his chops in Game 5 in San Francisco..... You also miss the fact that without Pudge's neautiful swing on Zambrano's tough tubo-sinker to bring the Marlins BACK into the GAME 1 (up until that point Marlins seemed so tentative and Zambrano getting out of jams with uncanny ease as he did throughout the year) and another huge late-inning 2 out hit to send the game into EI, Cubs BLOW the Marlins out.....with Beckett on the other hand giving up a TON of hard outs in ADDITION to 6 ER in 6 inn (ERA of 9.00)........so basically Marlins GET SWEPT in NLCS and Beckett never has a CHANCE to pitch a masterful Game 5. I am not even gonna mention Pudge's HUGE 2-out hit in Game 3 to chase off Kerry Wood, only Simon's hit stood in a way of ANOTHER I-Rod GW'er...........And the funniest part is, neither Giants OR the Cubs had to PITCH to Pudge in most of those situations, especially with Derek Lee, Encarnacion and Alex Gonzalez being SO BAD at the time. Again, this is just what he did with his bat. The way he shut down the running game (thusly making it easier on his pitchers, Beckett included), especially Kenny Lofton who absolutely WORE OUT Javy Lopez and the Brave in partucular, also deserves big mention. Even the NLDS-clinching COLLISION at the plate-- do you know how many times I've seen Brooks Fordyce, Mark Johnson and Miguel Olivo blow this seemingly routine play? Hell, Javy Lopez himself had blown TWO tags at home plate in ONE inning of Game 2 of NLDS..... And who's to say Pudge did not play a big role in calming down 20-yo Miguel Cabrera and maybe even Beckett himself. When you take the situational as well as SEQUENTIAL aspect of it (one event led to another, not occured in a vacuum state on the stat page), as good as Beckett was, WITHOUT PUDGE MARLINS DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO MAKING IT TO THE WORLD SERIES IN THE FIRST PLACE. Again, I will agree with you that from Game 7 of NLCS on, Beckett WAS indeed more valuable than I-Rod who didn't have a particularly good World Series. I also agree Pudge was THE best clutch hitter in the majors, in a pitcher's park no less, in the second half.
  19. You make a lot of great tangent points, Pastime. However, I still Kenny Williams will NOT surivive a 17-32-type start and our April schedule is pretty tough, so if we duplicate the kinda of play we showed ealy LAST year when we had a much easier beginning, we can find ourselves in a 2001 like hole faster than you can say "break-up". And even if he DOES, he won't be the de facto GM calling the shots but a puppet, do you think he wants that? He BADLY wants to win and acquit himself for 3-year failure. I also still think the Dodgers are in a driver's seat on this one...and given DE's very shaky ground, that's saying something!
  20. Dos Maggs even like it here, tho?
