  1. From the US perspective, what would the incentive be again? Charity?
  2. "What's Hecuba to him..." Substitute 'Hecuba' with "other humans and 10 million different species" and you'll have the gist of it.
  3. The (terribly simplified) question is, WHO needs that dollar MORE--- a starving farmer or a suburbanite with his 2 SUV's and a big screen TV.......
  4. . The Sox couldn't match the Cubs move-for-move even if the fans and management WANTED to. I believe it has something to do with EXTRA 40 MILLION Cubs have to work with in terms of payroll. It's a non-debate. I hate the Cubs, and have LOTS OF FUN while doing it. Wouldn't trade it for the world, and it has NOTHING to do with jealousy. Why would be jealous of a team that lost 100 games in '99 with a 70 mill payroll and 95 games in 2002 with a 75 Mill one, and hasn't won s*** in 95 years? Give the Sox a high payroll we are bound to win something if only by accident. I DO want Sox fans to support our team like Cubs fans do and give us a fighting chance. I would never want Cubs to re-locate or lose their fans because it would detract from sheer fun of HATING them. . And we were rewarded with a pretty mediocre performance from a fat and apathetic man. And make no mistake about it, buddy, CUBS are by far our BIGGEST rival when it's all said and done. That's why god fobid they make World Series next year (let alone win it) while we suck as we have in the last 3 years, WE'RE DONE in this town. Me and witesoxfan and clujer have been saying this since early last year and we were 5 outs away from doom.
  5. Whaaaa....She is the imposter! Burn 'er! Burn the wench!
  6. You're operating from the premise that America is my country. Also, if America itself wasn't corrupt with greed and complacency (and no such country ever existed in the history of man), what makes you think it COULD help everybody and restore the world order? The common mistake is to confuse America with God.
  7. 1. Last time I checked, my country vehemently opposed those particular dictatorial candidates. 2. I used green and it wasn't to salute your magnificent flag, rafa.

  10. Yeah, that's exactly what I said.
  11. See, that's where the huge tax dollars should be going. There is LITTLE point in having an extra few hundred dollars of shopping money from tax cuts if you and your family are DEAD and/or have a lot of dead friends. YMMV.
  12. Ever heard him as part Chicago Symphony Orchestra?
  13. Did I start he would start? That's why we have Willie Harris to hit against righties if Uriba doesn't have a break-through in that department.
  14. Chicago? Why Chicago? We didn't do nothing to nobody. But I am glad (more like terrified actually) that we agree that 9/11 was just a beginning.
  15. Survival of the fittest. And, let's face it, y'all aren't fit for much.....save for servitude to assorted dictators and corporate vampires, and perhaps an occasional World Cup title
  16. Because they are, like, by far our BIGGEST rival? Twins will be contracted in a few years and AL will be re-aligned......but Cubs will be around to steal our fans, publicity and f***-up our payroll for DECADES to come. Get it now? Considering Borowski is pretty much a lock for meltdown in 2004, Hawkins is as good as closer. So with signing bonus, the deal is worth 5.7 Mill a year, which is a) where we knew it would be, and B.) why Sox didn't even bother.
  17. I reiterate: a. Uribe can hit lefties just fine, evidenced by the 800 OPS last year. His Gold Glove defense at 2B + speed + bunting will partially offset Tony G's bat. However, we still have to remember Graff only excelled against lefties in the last couple of seasons, and his career OPS is something like 700 against them. He was by no means a sure thing in 2004 in that respect. b. When will people realize Uribe's 1.5 seasons in 2001-02 we the f***ing learning curve? Crede had the luxury of coming into the league at 24 and still struggled mightily for half of 2003. Uribe can just as easily experience a Junior Spivey-type breakthrough in 2004. And even if he doesn't, at his price, he is a fine platoon player.
  18. 'Vagina' is an ugly word. Its humorous vernacular equivalent is greatly preferred. Furthermore, had IllBob's kid used 'cock', the embarassing ordeal could have been avoided.
  19. Goat-loving is both immoral and illegal. IOW, perfect for PA.
  20. People don't realize just how f***ing influencial a pop group ABBA was in the 70's. Mama mia!
  21. 1. He is a better hitter than Tony G. was at his age-- and that considering Uribe was rushed to the bigs in the most foul of ways. Consider his first 2 seasons in the bigs his AA/AAA years. 2. He is a faster, more efficient base-runner than Tony G, especially after the latter tore his knee. 3. Defensively, Tony G is simply TERRIBLE. Uribe might not be "the best defensive SS in NL", but he has all the tools to be one. At 2B, he would be a gold Glover. 4. Tony G. is looking for 1.5 Mill year while Uribe is making 5 times less.
  22. The thing about Jose is that people loved him a little too much when the team was winning and he was one of the best clutch hitters (especially against Cubs, Twins and Royals, 3 of our biggest rivals) we had for 3 straight years. But when the team was losing and he finally fell to Earth in clutch situations, people turned on Jose more than I ever remember them turning on anyone. As if he was supposed to be this all-star, all-around SS who would single-handedly beat teams and transform everyone around him into winners with his magical leadership......Guess what? You want Garciappara, Jeter, A-Rod production and a ton of intangibles? Be prepared to shell out 15-25 Mill a year. Simple as that. (Of course Jose didn't help his cause by insisting on hitting RH all these years when he could probably bunt for higher OPS from the left side, lolol ) People point to his .240 BA, and I point to a solid 810 four-year cumulative OPS, very good clutch indicators in that span and solid RBI production for a #2/7 spot hitter. People point to relative lack of steals, and I point to all the times he took second without benefit of a steal on a dirt bounce or went from 1st to 3rd (including a few times on a bunt), scored from second on a single and from 3rd on one of Borchard's shallow pop ups...You get the idea. People point to 20 errors. I point to his range (second among all SS in ZoneRating), ability to turn a tough DP and make a forceout on a play where some SS safely go to 1st or don't make a throw at all in fear of getting an error..........or the simple fact that, as the recent geocities soxnotes link by Sox fan Jim proved, unlike say Jimenez or Crede, most of his errors are harmless-- as far as error can be harmless, anyway. Again, if you were hoping he would take less than 2 Mil, you were simply kidding yourself.
  23. I think Dan Berstein is nothing short of brilliant. I remember hearing the now infamous, original Larry Horse call-in live and thinking WTF......The best part was when Dick Jauron was asked by a caller what he thought about Larry Horse as a motivator and he so f***ing deadpan.
  24. Look CW, just because you happen not to agree with me on this issue, it doesn't give you the right to dismiss my viewpoint with prejudice as half-baked or ill-thoughtout.
