Hey, you and others made the contention that the team is "on the roll" without Valentin in the line-up. Simply not true. Not only is the record much worse, they're barely handling TB/Cle at home -- which is where Jose has usually shined as a member of the White Sox over the years. Don't shoot the messanger and all that.
-
Let's see.... Jose sucks in first 3 games.....Sox are 1-2 Jose heats it up.....Sox are 7-1. And I love the way you're measuring thei contribution during those 11 games....How about OPS and numbers with RISP and close-late?

Good one.

Stop posting extremely graphic violent material on the site. That's why they invented LINKING. They also have that thing called a "WARNING" My idea of a good day is NOT seeing a child's heads blown off or some poor Iraqi sap's grimaced noggin' lying in the pile of his own flesh. You were doing that s*** in the Israel-Palestine thread and now the Iraq thread. Dumbass motherf***er. :headshake

Hey, Jerry gets NO credit from me either; he's cheap and short-sighted. Sox aren't winning NOT because he refuses to throw money away on long-term deals for Colon, Wells, Everett, etc.....But rather because he DOESN'T SPEND, period. So the remedy is NOT in overpaying already overrated players, but to actually -- GASP -- raise the payroll into 70's and beyond. Speaking of short-sighted......How friggin' IDIOTIC is it to ask Frank's advice re: Bonds-Belle? Bonds was a better overall than Albert back in mid-90's and definately a bigger draw. :puke

For the Nth time..... Sox with Valentin as startting SS? 8-3 Sox without Valentin as starting SS? 7-6 The "7-6" includes being OUTSCORED by Cle, TB and Toronto AT HOME.... The is no way Harris starts over Rowand. Rowand has a live ML bat that's simply cold right now. Harris is not a ML hitter. Rowand can play CF. Harris has a 2B's arm.

Amen. Willie is gonna make a hellava pinch-runner some day.

Hey man, no problem -- taste buds come in all shapes and sizes. I just think it's weird how one can like punk, the genre that should by all rights by renamed to 'The Ugly and the Talentless'......and be deathly sick of little ol' Loretta. Hey, I am not a big fan either, though I for some reason I really like Bonnie Raitt, but that's a different style.
-
This is how it's gonna unfold: Jose starts in Baltimore. Goes 1-for-12 with 7 Ks -- ala first 3 games of this season. Then gets his rhythm back and starts hitting, with a nice 3/4 throwing motion. Sox ride into the sunset.
-
White Stripes I can understand...but what has Loretta done to you? She's got a nice little voice, harmless songs.

SARS is the new Black, er, people. Get with the times, kid, nobody is afraid of Black people anymore. They're one of "us" now.

OT: They used that graphic caption to start of the sports segment in the news the other day. If I am Kid Kyle, black belt and all, I am MIGHTY PO'd at being called "worthless" after 3 years of good relief work just because I blow 2 games i April.

True. But 'why' is an issue. The righties batted under .200 agaisnt him last year and lefties about 140 -- and he wasn't even that healthy. When he WAS healthy -- in ST and to start off the year , he was UNTOUCHABLE -- something like 5 hits in 15 innings, only 1 extra-base hit and 20 Ks from March through mid-April. His salary is nothing. He could help out Shingo deal with LH'ers. And he is a well-known personality in the clubhouse. If/when he is healthy, why on earth would we want to run him out of town?
-
Clemens's got chunks of guys like Bartolo in his stool. You're better off overpaying a little for real deals like Bonds or Unit than getting 13 Mill a year "bargains" like Colon or 11 Mill a year Millwood.

Sosa's Run at the Record Books

Didn't Albert lay a phone smackdown on some lady once? Izzy, did you want him back after that? -
You need a 3-run homer to get TO the post-season, but once there, going up against Shilling, Pedro, Vasquez, Brown and Hudson, it might no longer be an option -- same swing/approach that produce a home-run in pressure free situations off some AAAA scrub during the regular season, get you a medium-depth fly-out against the ace pitchers in postseaosn.

Stella Adler was right, nothing is larger than life -- that dude and others(Bride pf Wildenstein?) were such delusional grotesques, you couldn't make that stuff up. I imagine a calf implant is probably pretty common in the Powerhouse Gym circuit.

it was made by a benign, "good-intentioned" racist (if highly skilled) filmmaker who catered to the audience taste of his day; I don't need to tell you how Blacks were viewed in that era. Topic? Kane Dr. Strangelove Manchurian Candidate Sunset Boulevard Psycho And the usual suspect foreign and silent flick oeuoeuouvre. I am predictable.

When do you think the fans start coming back??
BrandoFan replied to soxfan420's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bears have MANY more LOYAL fans. It starts and stops right there. Sox park, as Dick Allen poster said, is just not a "cool" place to be any longer, and the New breed of Sox fans ain't paying $25-50 (tics, park, concess.etc) per person just for baseball which you can see on FSN, WGN. Also, NFL doesn't need full-house attendance to be profitable because of the immense popularity of the sport (tv contract, merchandising deals, etc) and the salary cap. -

In soccer, if you want Ronaldo or Figu or Becks, just pay his old club 30 Mill buyout fee with which they will totally revamp their farm/scouting system and build a top-of-the-line training facility, thus recruiting the future Ronaldos or Shevchenkos and selling them for an even more exorbitant price when time comes....Done and done.
-
Absolutely not. The only way Sox get Beltran is if Jeremy Reed develops 30HR power. Give me a 23yo Reed at 300K than a 27yo Beltran at 15M

1. Small ball wins championships (think Kenny Lofton with Cubs and Giants), but if 2001-2003 were any indication, you CAN'T just turn it on and off. Last year, there was a game in which Sox blew 4 (Willie 2, Jimenez, Rowand) sac bunts and lost a game by a run. The team has to be READY, both mentally and mechanically, to sacrifize themselves, whether on a groundball to the right side, bunt, HBP....and just execute. 2. Batista is the type of a pitcher Sox absolutely hate. That had to be done. Tie the game at 1, so now your hitters don't have to sweat and play catchup. If Garland ends up imploding, so be it -- you lose the game either way then. 3. There is undeniable legitimacy to the whole"outs are more precious in the Juice Era of 1993-2004 than ever before" thinking. But it shouldn't be carried out to the extreme. 4. Sox don't have the overwhelming, World Series-caliber talent, not even close. So our chances of going deep into postseason are DIRECTLY proportional not only to our players' willingness to play up to their potential (read: Joe Crede can't bat 240 and Garland can't have ERA over 4.20, etc) for once, which means that their intensity should be higher than competition ala 2000.......but also to whether or not Sox can be more EFFIECIENT than other teams at myriad little things --- defense, moving runners over, avoiding GIDP w RISP, sac bunts, hitting cut-off men, using the entire field with 2 strikes, taking extra bases when the defense makes a mistake, take-out sliding to break up DP's, calling optimum pitches from the dugout, etc, etc, etc. It remains to be seen if Sox can do it, but without Ozzieball (whatever the hell it is), they ain't going places, plain and simple. So while I am not totally satisfied with the way the team is playing right now, I have no beef with Oz bunting Uribe and Olivo. Chances are, one of them could have been safe and now the corner infilders will be just a little more mindful.

And that proves what exactly? People will be people. Monica Lewinsky was the most talked about person of 1999. So what, garden-variety notoriety ain't = merit/achievement, so color me unimpressed. And, again, Bonds would STILL be regarded alongside Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle even WITHOUT the Beast Juice. He is still one of the greatest players of 20th century. He would get his legend one way or another. Now he's just irreparably damaged his legacy, and while the moron majority will be yakking it up about his breaking the Ruth record and stuff, TRUE baseball fans will KNOW Berroids and his ilk for the shameless cheaters they are/were. I pray my future kids won't be the hype lemmings/controversy vampires. They better f***ing not be.
