  1. I have the Tigers' feed on MLB.tv...way to get behind the hitter in a 2-1 count, Detroit fans.
  2. A 10-pitch at-bat and his walk rate make me thing Andy Gonzalez will be a good player...just not in center field.
  3. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) What a f***ing moron! How many times does he get to "tested positive" before he is banned? (It is baseball, shouldn't it be three strikes?) It's for "stimulants," not performance-enhancing drugs. But why would he be taking stimulants, unless it's for a game? Or do they mean speed or cocaine?
  4. But when you say things like "Walker sucks because our hitters don't have plate discipline" or "fire Walker because our hitters are only swinging for the fences" ...is that Walker's fault? Walker isn't the one who told Uribe you don't walk off the island. He isn't preaching to only look for the longball. I think the main purpose of a hitting coach is to help guys work out kinks in their swing, or find a more comfortable stance. I'm sure they work on how to approach at-bats too, yes, but that also requires the batter going out there and executing.
  5. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2960193 What a dummy. This article on ESPN.com is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo confusing. They keep calling it stimulants, which makes you think greenies. But this is the fourth paragraph of the article: Which raises the question, why would he be taking greenies when he's suspended, if his original suspension was to end tonight?
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) He really is a DH only at this point, so that will limit where he could go as would his contract. The White Sox most likely would not be able to get back fair value for him. They should keep him. And he only has value in the AL because when he plays first base he needs to sit out the next few days.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 08:25 AM) Harris was a good player, but nothing that isnt replaceable. Agreed. And it's Danieal Manning.
  8. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Richar 2B Rowand CF Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Pierzynski C Fields/Crede 3B Vizquel SS Sweeney LF Man, I'm going to like 2008. I wonder if you're being sarcastic...please no Vizquel.
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) Because Iguchi was never comfortable with it. Just because you are good at something doesn't mean you like it. Suck it up. It helped us to a World Series and it's what you'll be best at here in America.
  10. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) They put him right into the 2 spot, and isn't messing around with any other spot in the order. plus their lineup is way better than ours. Well, we wanted to see Iguchi's power potential. And I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. He was the perfect No. 2 hitter with Pods in front of him, why mess with it?
  11. Could someone fill me in from the point they lifted Garland and on? I had to go to the bookstore to get the book for my paper, and since it was 8-6 and both starters had been knocked out one out through the bottom of the second, this game seemed like it could end after the bookstores closed.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 07:46 AM) Confirmed my suspicion. Here is the quote, in proper context: Link to article. Haeger was NOT talking about the demotion, he was talking about the ejection. Of course he was...who tries to send a message with a knuckleball?
  13. After ESPN.com put the headline as "Report: Mad Santana questions future with Twins," am I the only one who is pondering only referring to Johan Santana as "Mad Santana" from this point on?
  14. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Anybody think Peavy might have an outside shot? I thought about him, but he's had kind of a slow start -- he's won 6, 12, 15, 13, 11, and 10 games so far in 2007. So 67 wins at 26 years of age...like everyone else mentioned in this thread, if he keeps it up (performance-wise, and just gets some more wins per season), then he could reach 300 wins. But out of the pitchers mentioned in this thread (and Johan Santana, too), maybe one or two will get to 300.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) Why would Pedro factor into this discussion? He had his dominant years. However, he has been on the decline for a few years and struggled with health. That along with shoulder surgery. He still needs 90+ wins. I don't think he has enough left to get that at all. The "barely" had more to do with Johnson being mentioned in this thread, but Pedro is another pitcher with an outside shot if he stays healthy and regains the form he had in 2005, his first year with the Mets. And he has the advantage of pitching for what figures to be a top-5 NL team for the next five years or so. That doesn't mean I think he'll do it, but there's the possibility.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) Help! I was talking to my uncle down in Southern Illinois and he asked me about the Bears. I told him they should be top 3 in the NFC, possible best in the NFC and he went off on me saying that the Bears didn't get better after the Super Bowl. I brought up Darwin Walker and the drafting of Greg Olsen and he never heard of them. He thinks Stephen Jackson will be the MVP this year. The Rams fans down here are drooling over Orlando Pace losing a bunch of weight and Bulger being re-signed. I feel like Bulger won't be around as long as he should be because he gets sacked and hit a lot...just a feeling. And don't forget the Bears' addition of Adam Archuleta and the return of Mike Brown to form a really good tandem at safety, in place of Danieal Manning and Chris Harris...oh, we got better. People want to write us off because of Rex Grossman at quarterback...but the Bears went 11-5 with Kyle Orton at QB.
  17. Am I the only one who finds it interesting that arguably two of the most dominant pitchers of the era -- Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson -- barely factor into this discussion? Johnson has 284 wins, but he's been on the DL this season and is 43 years old (will be 44 by season's end).
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) In all seriousness, that's about how I feel about it. We committed a lot to get this kid, so we might as well see what he is made of. No time like now, when the games really don't matter. For the record, I agree. I want to see Floyd put together some quality starts...and I assume he'll pitch in Contreras' spot in three days?
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Crap to replace crap. Nice. "Hey, give the young guys a chance, let's see what they've got." So what if Gavin Floyd has never had two strong starts in a row? He has potential.
  20. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Just got rocked by some dude named Shelby. We rock hardcore. Shelley?
  21. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) Mussina...maybe. I thought about him...but he's 38 years old. He'll have around 250 wins to start next season, when he'll be 39, and have to win 15-18 games for three years to get to 300 wins. But his ERA is the worst it's been since 1996 right now, so he might not have enough left in him to do it -- unless he goes to the NL, maybe.
