QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) When was the last year that Griffey made it through a full season? too long ago, hence the move from CF, but another reason making it so difficult for the Reds to trade him. my thinking is his since the Reds have Wily Mo Pena waiting, Griffey's trade value is at its lowest, so the Reds would eat more of his salary.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Do you think he could get that money nowadays? Nope. So why does it matter? There's a reason Griffey is still with the Reds. No team wants to add his horrible contract. he could have been with the Padres, but Phil Nevin nixed that. what I keep trying to get at is the change of scenery thing.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Keyword: "was" He is 35 years old now and he's on the decline. Trading for a 35 year old injury-prone player with 4 years remaining on a bloated contract is downright retarded, no offence. my point was more that he could have gotten $20M+ a year somewhere else, and the fans treat him like s***, so a new venue would help.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Trade for Griffey and move him to 1st base? Wow. So now you want to take away one of his positives (his defense in CF) by moving him to 1st base? Regardless, the Reds wouldn't eat enough of Griffey's contract to make it worth it. If they were willing to eat a lot of his contract, he would be a Yankee already. I've heard people mention moving him to first, like the Angels did with Darin Erstad (2004 gold glove winner, I believe). I personally don't like the idea, but he's a good athlete and would catch on quick at first. the only reason to move him would be because he's more prone to injury in CF.

he signed for 116.5 M for 9 years, an average of $13M a year, and he was the best player in baseball. he took a serious pay-cut to play in Cincy.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Griffey wouldn't draw enough fans or produce enough on the field to justify adding his disgustingly bloated contract. He needs a change of scenery? Griffey is old and injury-prone. I think he needs to stick with the Reds who are stupid enough to be stuck with his contract. I'm sure the Reds would eat a bunch of it, and sometimes a change of scenery will do the trick. he is old and injury prone, we could move him to first base, but have you heard the type of s*** he's been getting in Cincy? I remember an article 2 years ago about him getting death threats and hate mail. he took less money to go there, there's no way he's happy there. personally I'd love to have him.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) Maybe some of you guys should just go to games and enjoy them instead of b****ing about the attendance. I'd enjoy them more with more fans involved in the game.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) I won't respond but I want to know why he shouldn't think about the money right now? Why would the $66 million that Griffey is owed not matter? sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, and Griffey could draw fans. I also think that a change of scenery could help him too.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Chavez hit a HR in the As game if anyone cares. well I do, but that's because he's on my fantasy team.

QUOTE(kman @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) IM nervous for this series, i know theyre pitching isnt great but you can throw pitching out the window for this series. I dont know if our guys will try and just go for the homerun swing at every ab beacuse of the thin air and they havn't had experience at coors. the homerun swing is actually a bad idea at Coors, that outfield is so spacious that if you just go for the gaps the homeruns will come naturally there.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Good call, Fotop! DOES ANYONE NOT LOVE THE GOOCH?! he's just been the perfect #2 hitter for us. I almost think we could have Gooch hit 3rd and he'd hit 40 homeruns. or leadoff and he's have a .400 OBP and finish with 70 steals.

I can just see Hawk making the quotes when he says High "gas"

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Oh, and now the Twins are up 5-2. The Yankees are the most expensive joke I've ever heard. they really should have kept Vazquez and signed Beltran. Vazquez is too young to give up of after 1 season, and Beltran would give them another 10 good seasons, compared to Johnson's max of 3. and Vazquez 6 or 7. good moves, Cashman and Steinbrenner. now back to the Sox.

QUOTE(kman @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) uribe is gonna pop this one up watch. that's the type of faith we like to have in our players...

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) How's Kotchman's defense? from what I've seen, he's so-so but has his moments in the field.

QUOTE(Sox rule @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) DAMN! I WISH PEAVY WOULD BE ABLE TO FACE THE SOX! why the Canadian flag? Peavy's from Alabama.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Yeah he is a complete stud, on the one hand I like to watch him pitch but than on the other hand Im glad we miss a pitcher of that calibur. I was thinking the same thing.

I wouldn't mind the fair weather fans, they could end up paying AJ Burnett's or some other marquee free agents' salaries.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) Yeah, no one came out and just said the attendance sucks. sox-r-us was trying to have a discussion about why it sucks and what will improve it because so far, everybody who said, "wait til june" was wrong. ummmm, wait til july

fans are indirectly related to performance. obviously 50,000 people yelling GOOOOOOOOCH won't make him a .400 hitter, but those 50,000 people just gave the team extra money. so, why not take a risk in the off-season and SPEND? show the fans you're trying to win, sign a marquee free agent. sometimes you need to spend money to make money.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Oh wow, 30,000 yelling "Guch", I'm sure that will help him guess right on the breaking ball. I just like the atmosphere. Sox games feel like high school football games, there's nobody there. even going to Cubs games there's a different feeling, that's why I was disappointed when I was going to go to New York for an uncle's wedding that the Yankees weren't in town. it's just something I'd like to experience, and would be great if it were to be at Comiskey. (and yes, I went to the Cubs game, last season for their last game and during June the season before. baseball's baseball, both times was free, and I was hoping the Cubs would be tied going into the last game, just so I'd be there when their hopes were crushed.)

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) Then keep your mouth shut and stop b****ing about the attendance like a woman. Unless, of course, you think that your b****ing like a woman will actually make the attendance increase. you think that b****ing about Ozzie's decisions will do anything, or that if you complain enough Joe Crede will wander into traffic? by your logic, you shouldn't be posting here.
