  1. Crede hit .304 in April, .115 in May, and is hitting .298 this month. would it be smart to bank on that fact that every other month he hits well, and with this pattern he'll have a good October?
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) Schmidt Contract: 2005 - $8.75 2006 - $10 mil. option you make good points, I just really don't like it when money is made an issue. the problem with Schmidt is that he's struggling and we'd be banking on the fact that he turns it around. you bring his salary into it, it's almost like you're saying even if it were guaranteed he'd turn it around, you wouldn't want him at that price. hell, maybe that's what you are saying, but either way, I wouldn't mind seeing this team spend like the Yankees.
  3. I'm telling you, if the Devil Rays didn't play in Florida, Pinella would have suffered a stroke by now.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) This season: to be honest that's really all I'm looking at. The contract will take care of itself, then again maybe it won't. Crede can't bunt worth a s*** but he does know how to shoot the ball to RF, move the runner, get a sac fly, etc. People on this board are adamant he can't, I cannot change that line of thinking. Crede can do all that, he's just a little poor on the execution. from what I've heard and read, scouts love Crede because he has all the tools to be a star, but can't put them to work. he's just so streaky, he might just be another Shawn Green type player.
  5. looking at the vote totals, our most deserving position player (Gooch) stands no chance. he's about a million votes behind Brian Roberts and Alfonso Soriano (I'm not kidding). unless he's picked by a manager, he won't go. Hermanson is 17/18 in saves, and Garland and Buehrle should be picked to go, maybe even Contreras. maybe Contreras.
  6. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) He had a real bad night it happens QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) ...especially to rookies. here's the thing with rookie starters: they really have no in between. if they aren't lights-out, they get shelled. remember Ervin Santana gave up the cycle in his first ever inning, then shut us out? or Dontrelle Willis throwing a 2 or 1-hitter his rookie year and still ending up with an ERA of around 4 - 4.5? plus, McCarthy's psyche has to be ruined from playing in that bandbox of a AAA stadium (you know what Coors does to pitchers, even on the road those guys are bad), I expect him to bounce back in his next start.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Yes, he is a Dodger fan. Can't wait to see David Schwimmer at the Sox game tonight. meh.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) WILL NOT BE TRADED---->Felipe Lopez (25 YO) - WILL NOT BE TRADED---->Jorge Cantu (23 YO) Pedro Feliz (30 YO) - WILL NOT BE TRADED---->Bill Hall (25 YO) WILL NOT BE TRADED---->Ryan Freel (29 YO) WILL NOT BE TRADED---->Chad Tracy (25 YO) it's amazing you can be GM for all of those teams and still find time to post here. just kidding, cause I agree with all of those except for Ryan Freel and Chad Tracy. yes, Freel's cheap and plays pretty much any position, but he doesn't excel or really have the potential to excel anywhere, so he's just the ultimate utility player, so a mid-level prospect or two could net Freel. and Chad Tracy could be moved because Arizona has Conor Jackson, who is absolutely tearing up AAA pitching.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Yes, so he could give up double the amount of runs he does now at the Cell. aah Zito is a victim of poor run support. his ERA is high, but his BAA is .235 and he gets himself into trouble with walks. I'd be willing to bet with some run support he'd have a better attitude and give up less walks.
  10. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) I'm also pleased to see you say 'anyway' instead of 'anyways'. anyway is good, but not as good as anyhoo. anyhoo, welcome to Soxtalk.
  11. it sounds like I missed a helluva game. I had a baseball game of my own, then I spent 2 hours in the hospital getting stitched up (I got spiked on a slide at 2nd). the TV in there didn't get ESPN, so I turned it to the NBA Finals.
  12. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) 2004 pk avg=.277 rbi=96 hr=41 helton avg=.341 rbi=96 hr=32 Who played in Coors? This year Paulie had 11 more homeruns then Helton and 21 more rbi's and paulie hase been struggling. All Helton is is an overpaid old ventran who is past his prime. If I were KW I would give Konerko a 3 year contract after this year. last year Helton hit .326 on the road, and the past 3 years Helton's away average is .310, so there goes the Coors argument. he's also a gold-glove quality first baseman. Helton has nobody in his lineup to drive in, plus he's been struggling. so Helton is not an overpaid old veteran past his prime. he's also not coming to Chicago.
  13. QUOTE(56789 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) If the sox played the cubs in the world series and they won. The main picture on all the newspapers would have a cubs person crying or somethin and say "Cubs lose, extend streak to X amount of years" QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Sadly, your right. I'm not quite sure about that one. maybe a few papers, but the majority would focus on the Sox, and any national publications (SI, TSN, ESPN, etc.), would only have the side stories about the Cubs streak.
  14. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) Helton is 32 Konerko is 29 Helton makes more money more then Konerko! The last thing i want to have is an overpaid vetran who is past his prime. well 3 years and about 50 points difference in average. if there was any way this could happen, it would be great. but Helton doesn't want to go anywhere, he wants to win in Colorado. and the money argument sucks, if we spend an extra $10M and win more, why not do it? too bad Helton's not going anywhere.
  15. and Nomar? I'd bet if you asked every coach/GM if they could choose one SS for their team, every single one would say either Miguel Tejada or Derek Jeter. unless they count Alex Rodriguez as a SS.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) Too bad we couldn't get a Cintron for middle reliever deal done. That would be perfect for both squads. that is the best trade idea this board has seen since Chavez. but the problem with the D'Backs' pen is injuries. they thought they had their closer last year in Greg Aquino, but he starts the season on the DL, as did Jose Valverde. Brandon Lyon stepped up in Aquino's absence, and now he's on the DL. Oscar Villarreal is also on the DL. only now do they have Valverde and Aquino back, and neither has done too well.
  17. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) And 12 out of 32 isn't 50%. I'm on a roll in this thread. I'm not even editing that last mistake.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Still, my respect for Maddux is now out the window. He said something stupid and arrogant, and he never struck me as that before. Screw him, I hope he continues his awful season and eventually his arm falls off. I thought the same thing. the "Who's Mark Buehrle?" line is okay if Buehrle was specifically calling out Maddux. that's the only situation it's acceptable.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) This is the game of the series that when I saw the promotional scheudle for 2005, I wanted to go to the most. Have fun guys, and bring us a winner!!! same here, but are you going though?
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) I pretty much just pulled some s***ty celeb out of my ass that I know has no connection to Chicago or the White Sox. I figured that, you just reminded me that people don't make fun of David Schwimmer nearly enough.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) I said I liked seeing Vince Vaughn at the game yesterday because I respect him as an actor and I have heard him say good things about the Sox in the past. However I don't like the idea of being at the Sox game and seeing David Schwimmer on the video screen and having the crowd give them an ovation for being at the game. They can come to the game I just don't like the idea of the fans applauding them for being there. David Schwimmer? the only crowd that would cheer him is the crowd for Oprah. I think if David Schwimmer were to show up on the big screen, there would be a resounding "meh" from all in attendance.
  22. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) I look forward to the day that someone actually says they like a certain sports columnist or TV host. we only concentrate on the schmucks here. like Jim Rome, who's show consists of him shouting at a camera for 10 minutes then having an in-depth sports conversation with Roger Lodge. or Mariotti, who only focuses on the bad, even when there's really nothing there. the one I hate most is Skip Bayless. he's like Mariotti, except he doesn't even understand what it's like to play sports on a team. he says that when a basketball players misses a free throw, they shouldn't get any high-fives, just to be ignored. he's just plain ignorant.
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) God I can't believe what has evolved into. I heard MB say what he said on the radio and that was it. I figured it was done... same here. just Buehrle joking around on sports-talk radio. I don't even think the question to Buehrle was baited as much as it was just a light-hearted joke.
  24. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) who the f*** is some poster to say whether he doesn't want vince vaughn to be there? We aren't gatekeepers. He can come any time he wants to. it depends. anybody on this board check tickets at the turnstiles at Comiskey? just tell him his ticket's a counterfeit and you'll call the cops if he doesn't leave now.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) And I just wanted to add, I no longer like Greg Maddux after what he said. I guess anyone on the Cubs automatically becomes a huge asshole. yeah, it's pretty stupid when you say things like, "Who's Mark Buehrle?", when Buehrle is 8-1 and the ace of the staff for the best team in baseball, and you're 5-4 on the tail end of your career. check your f***ing ego at the door.
