QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) - Joe Crede's defense sucks he dropped that ball and cost us the game, we should just give him his ouright release. or shoot him in the kneecaps. whichever's easier.[/color]

Which Pitcher do you want to be a sock by august?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) I don't think he is talking about paper. More about bodies. oh well, I'd assume "expensive" is talking about money, but "would cost too much" is bodies. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) Thats basically the triangle. Spread out the floor so your scorer(Jordan or Kobe) can attack the basket and still have an option if he cannot get there. Kobe modiffied it last year to exclude the pass option except to begin with, Odom & Co. didn't really give him an option. they sort of just dumped the ball off and stood around. so they couldn't even stick to "Give-the-ball-to-Kobe-and-be-ready-for-a-pass-just-in-case", they switched it to "Give-the-ball-to-Kobe-and-watch".

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) You need to play effective team defense if you want to be a contender. They're gonna get smoked in the first round. And hell yes it mattes who your PG is. My advice: don't get caught up in scoring potential on paper. last year, they didn't do anything as a team. Jackson should fix that. and Odom could effectively bring the ball up. he was originally a Magic-type player, but they told him to shoot more. really, how difficult is it to bring the ball past half-court and give it to Kobe or Odom? so they should really be able to do everything, if it all works out right.

Nba free agent signings and rumors.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Arvydas macijauskas to new orleans. He is considered to be one of the best shooters currently playing in the world. He probally has the fastest release of any player in the world and his shot looks so purrty. He can also penetrate pretty well. His flopping abilities are also compared to divac's. I could add a bunch more recent signings and give my thoughts but i will wait to later. I figured it would be a good idea to make a thread for this so we don't clutter up the sports bar with new threads for every some what big signing. sounds like another soft European who disappears when it really matters(click here and scroll to Arvydas Macijauskas). add the "flopping abilities" and you've now got Divac and Peja in one player. well, those are my thoughts. -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) ESPN is reporting that Brett Boone, the roid machine who scored a huge contract with the needle and then went south when MLB finally cleaned up the game, is on a very short leash it seems. 10 days to be exact, to prove his worth or the Twins are going to start looking at alternative solutions. If there's anything more fun to watch than the Twins in desperation mode, I'd like to know what it is! he went south before the game was cleaned up, and he's still huge, so you seem to be putting too much trust in Jose Canseco's accusations.

another thought, still the Lakers could surprise a lot of people, Mihm at center, Kwame PF, Odom SF, Kobe at the 2, and it-doesn't-matter at PG, with Phil Jackson bringing in an offensive system (the triangle, compared to "Give-the-ball-to-Kobe-and-be-ready-for-a-pass-just-in-case"), nobody's being asked to do too much and maybe now they'll play as a team. now that I think more, if Kwame comes close to reaching that potential, they could be a serious contender.
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Right now I'd say this trade is a good one for the Wizards. They lose Hughes to the Cavs, but getting Bulter will work just fine for the Wizards. Butler stepped it up for the Lakers at the end of the season, they really should have shopped Odom for a better big man. this deal will look like a huge steal if Kwame doesn't reach his potential.

QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Schmidt is way too expensive. okay, Bill Wirtz Jr., wouldn't want to spend too much money for the possibility of a championsip now, would you? -
QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) A huge component of Sox's winning is its defense. Whether you like Crede or not, it's best to have Crede manning his 3B post. I feel much safer with him being there. But if his back is going to give him continuous problems, it's time for KW to trade for Randa or Vizquel. with as many close games as this team plays, we NEED Crede's glove, and Uribe just won't do over there. we saw what happens when Ozuna plays 3B, so just think how many games we would have lost (not just how many runs would have scored) had Crede not made plays on those balls, keeping the inning going.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) As far as I can tell, irony has to be dervied from something at its base, something concrete. Work ethic would be the base for irony, while a phrase like "he has no heart" would simply be a way of saying that he has no work ethic. Remember, the heart is merely a muscle that pumps blood, and it doesn't factor into why a guy would be lazy. It is simply an expression. Now, if Curry were healthy and he somehow managed to average like 12 rebounds per game in the playoffs last year, then THAT would have been ironic considering that his work ethic is s*** (5.2 rebounds per game during the regular season or whatever). Do you see what I'm saying here, or am I on my own planet with this? I would think an expression is okay for the base of irony, as everybody knows what the expression means, making it concrete. and if he were to have posted 12 rebound per game in the playoffs, he would have been playing over his head, stepped his game up big time, or both.

Leiter's old, Schimdt's hurt. I take hurt over old when it comes to pitchers, because if/when Schmidt's 100% again, he's only 31 so he should go back to dominating. Leiter, even if his problems are mechanical, may be too old to take a chance on, and we'll probably hear him calling playoff games again come October.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Lacking heart is just another way of saying that this guy has no balls. It is an expression. Wait, let me repeat that. It is an expression. So, when I find out that Curry had a testicle removed, is it ironic? Of course not. and why would the fact that it's an expression cancel out the fact that it's irony? there's no reason for that.
-
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Lacking heart = bad work ethic, no passion Saying that someone lacks heart before information comes out that they have actual health issues with their heart is not irony. It's f***ing stupid. Work ethic has nothing to do with it. I've been saying that this guy doesn't work hard all along, and then I find out that he has health issues with his heart. How ironic!!!!! It's also amusing that you think you have some special insight into Curry's work ethic. It's all right there to see for anyone who watches the games. It couldn't be more obvious, it's like me uttering this: I've been saying all along that the grass is green. Excuse me while I pat myself on the back. I never said I'm some sort of expert because I said he's got no work ethic. I NEVER said I have some special insight into his work ethic. but I have been saying he's lazy, as I'm sure many other people have, and I never even said I was one of the first to say it.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) I'm pretty sure I'm biting wite's style here. Irony: It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid A traffic jam when you're already late A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife Not Irony: Heart problems when you have no work ethic no, it's ironic because for years I've been saying he's got no heart (work ethic), and he's now he's really got a bad heart. I'm not saying they're tied together at all, they probably aren't. people have heart problems for all sorts of reasons, and it's not like he's in terrible shape.
-
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Are you trying to tell me that "Curry lacking heart" is a genuine insight on your part? I'd imagine that you have to be a rocket scientist to notice these things? And what's so ironic about it? QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) I'd say the reference to irony is due to the fact that his heart is what's causing the health issues. well, you don't have to be a rocket scientist, but you do have to be able to understand simple irony. and I have been saying that for a while, as he could be so much better than he is, but doesn't seem to put forth the effort.

at least Bobby Simmons is more of a self-less player that always does whats good for the team. the way it is in the NBA is no matter what type of player you are, being 6'10'' guaruntees you $7 million per season, and Shawn Bradley somehow stuck around for 12 years with no skills to speak of. the scary thing is, what does that guaruntee Curry, who's 6'10'' and has skills. it's ironic though, because I've always said the one thing he lacks is heart.

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) if i was francona, i would put in rivera for like 5 innings so he cant pitch against the red sox in the next series remember he joked about that earlier?

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) If Jeter won the vote, he would have been in the 4th inning no, he would be batting now for Micahel Young though.
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) he wont pinch run, no more position players left after Pods well my prediction is looking a lot less likely. I did forget to mention that I made that prediction the day after I found out Pods made the team, so maybe he'll bat for Sheffield if he gets up. or maybe he'll field a half-inning. I also forgot to mention that I'm NOT Terry Francona, or in any way related to Terry Francona.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) there has to be someone who gets on base... well if my prediction holds true, then yes, you're right, somebody will have to get on base for Pods to pinch-run.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) I fear we won't see Scott Podsednik... :headshake my guess is that he'll come in as a pinch-runner.

listen to that, media? Kenny Rogers didn't want to be a distraction. so who's decision was it to make him a distraction? could it be the announcers faults?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Yes, I know that. Wait, what point were you making again? I've lost track, but "the results of lifting steroid-free for 2 hours could be acheived after 1 with steroids." but roid-free Abreu works out longer, thus giving him more stamina than roid-chocked Sammy Sosa, who works out less but gains more muscle.
