  1. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) St. Louis is about a million times better than LeClaire. I am sure more hockey fans will be interested in this is that a poke at my thread? LeClair will do lots for the Pens' powerplay. but the reigning NHL MVP being locked up on the reigning champs is bad news for 31 other teams.
  2. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) Ok then, I'm completely wrong, Giguere's weakness MUST be his glove... what in the hell is wrong with you? I'm going by memory of something said in 2003, and have found some evidence to back it up. he also plays like crap when he's not positioning himself well, because getting in good position is his bread and butter. you haven't brought me anything raving about his glove, and I've been looking myself too. and various sites have players and coaches quotes about him, and none of those say good things about his glove, just footwork and positioning (what a coincidence! all the quotes about him in those pages are positive quotes!)
  3. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) I'll disagree again, I've seen him play more than a year... I always thought he was gonna suck until 2002. But the guys writing on that site are biographers who did guys like Jason Kidd and Marshal Faulk, not hockey analysts... no I said you haven't seen him play since last year (remember, there was a lockout?). and the guys at that site probably get their scouting info from the guys like Peter Gammons or Barry Melrose. I've been skimming over random MLB players' bios on there, and it all seems to be compiled from other sources. edit: IN FACT, everything in Derrek Lee's bio is mentioned in the story SI did about him a few weeks back.
  4. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) LOL, what a credible source... JockBio.com, I think Peter Gammons and Bruce Levine write for them. hey it's all I could find, I didn't exactly record the 2003 Finals or have anything else readily available. the point is there's someone else who agrees, and that was way too long to be written by someone who has no idea what they're talking about. you're in the same boat as me, neither of us has seen him play in more than a year, and I'm the only one with a smidgen of proof, other than "I'm a goalie," which doesn't mean much because I've also played hockey my whole life, and while I suck at goalie, I'm still somewhat knowledgeable about it.
  5. BAM! go here--->My Webpage scroll down to "Jean-Sebastien The Player" that'll wipe that smug look off your face (if in fact there was one).
  6. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) I'll disagree here, being a goaltender myself, Giguere was a butterfly goalie, go down and use your enormous padding to stop shots. If anything is his weakness, its his post to post movement. I've never heard him be criticized about his glove hand before. I've heard him criticized about puck handling though... glove, side-to-side, puck-handling. they mentioned it all during the 03 Finals.
  7. where's Rich Harden? last season he topped 95 MPH more times than anybody.
  8. appearantly there was a deal done on July 31 for Griffey but it was nixed by the Reds owner. we know so little about what's going on here, but I'd bet if this deal is done, it will be last minute, and KW will be giving up a lot to get him. but I know as little as everyone else, so... and another thing: why not just let the Reds totally off the hook for Griffey's contract? or have them pay some, but money should be no object in the pursuit of a World Series. I would feel let down if that could be the breaking point, just paying Griffey instead of the Reds.
  9. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) NOT to sound facetious, but where would he play? DH, I wouldn't want to see him on the field at all. not to reduce the risk for injury, he's just not a good fielder.
  10. QUOTE(OilCan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) I like the Pens "O"...but what about their D? Gonchar, Orpik, Jackman and Tarnstrom doesn't exactly scare anyone (except Orpik, who would look DAMN good in a Hawks uniform). I'll take the Hawks' new D any day of the week now. Aucoin-Vandermeer-Spacek-Cullimore-Simpson-??? Duncan Keith? Paging Duncan Keith...your table is waiting.......... the Pens are really built assuming the NHL is more offense-based. Gonchar helps the offense a lot from the point, and Tarnstrom (I forgot about him when I started this thread) had 12 powerplay goals and 26 powerplay assists in 03-04, so with him the Pens have two damn good powerplay quarterbacks.
  11. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Where do you get this, improves his glove? You must be a goalie or a goalie instructor... well I haven't seen hockey in a while, but there were a lot of people criticizing JS Giguere's glove hand, calling it his one weakness. but I do remember a lot of straight shots that scored on him were glove side.
  12. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) Like I said, I liked him. Which means, a solid goaltender. Solid goaltenders take teams deep into the playoffs. See J-S Giguere, Khabibulin, Irbe (with the Canes that magical year). It can happen. Khabibulin is more than a "solid goaltender". Irbe played over his head, and Giguere could be an all-time great if he improves his glove.
  13. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Not to sound like a jag, but I always like Kipper when he was with the Sharks... well yeah, but did you see him taking a team to the Finals?
  14. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I don't care about the "new nhl." Playoffs = Goaltending. Pens don't have a shot with thibault, he's not a cup goaltender goaltender's can pop up out of nowhere, and when Thibault was with Chicago he was always facing a barrage of shots. he'd lead the league in saves and shots faced, and still still 60-65 games. and 3 years ago, how many people would say that Mikka Kiprusoff would be goalie for a team in the Finals? by the way, I said if the "new NHL" is as-advertised. I'm not fully convinced about it, either.
  15. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) the penguins will probably make the playoffs, but i don't think they have a good shot at the cup with thibault in net Thibault was always solid, and they will score a lot of goals, and if the "new NHL" is as-advertised, offense will become more important than defense.
  16. I just saw this, and the Penguins power-play is going to be a force this year. Lemieux, Crosby, LeClair, and Gonchar? they will be running a clinic this year.
  17. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) the only thing i would take issue with here is that the reds do need everything. people think they don't need ofs because they have pena, dunn, griffey and kearns, but after that their system is absolultely depleted of talent. young and rogowski would be better than anyone they currently have in their system and would immediately become two of their top prospects. the second paragraph i agree with totally. they don't need everything. they need a starting 2B, and they can stock up on bench players in the offseason, because Kearns, Dunn, and Pena are all young and should be productive for 5+ years. pretty much, their system is depleted because the big club needs the system now.
  18. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) Did you ever think that maybe...just maybe...Cincinnati ain't buyin' what we're sellin'? Just because you would offer everyone to them doesn't mean they want them. Even BMac. They probably want someone that's ready to step into a #1 role RIGHT NOW. BMac ain't that guy. They don't need any more OFs at this point. They don't need a 3B. Seems like they are fine with Lopez at SS. So what does that leave? Rogowski at 1B IF they can dump Casey and the Reds might not want him. Sorry dude, there are two sides to every story. And we don't even know one. And one more thing...earlier this year, everyone is talking about how aggressive KW is and that he'll get a deal done. How do you know that he isn't? Let's just let this play out and see what happens. when it comes to position players, all the Reds need is a 2B. they're set for years to come everywhere except 2B. but their pitching is awful from top to bottom. I'm guessing they want 2 close-to-ready starters and maybe another pitcher for the bullpen.
  19. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) I hope this chair kills me... or how about this hammer.. maybe this punch will kill me sorry, guess im not that funny.. :headshake :puke maybe if you went in reverse. if the chair and the hammer don't kill you, the punch definitely won't. or you could drink yourself to death. or hit your head against the wall repeatedly, though you might pass out before you die. :banghead (had to play along. I leave for college in 40 minutes, and decided to sleep on the drive down. not-so-long story short, I desperately need something to do, and by the time I go through this and fix all the type-os, I will have burned 3 minutes. so thanks for bearing with me.)
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) It WAS getting better ratings than hockey telecasts. That doesn't mean that the WSOP is BETTER than hockey ( I find the poker shows interesting, but I'd watch a hockey game before that any day of the week ), but ratings = legitimacy as far as the networks are concerned. I don't even know if I have the Outdoor Life Network on my cable package. I'd guess that I do, but I've never tuned in once to that channel. I didn't know that OLN has progamming when the Tour de France isn't going on. then again, I didn't know there was an OLN until 2 years ago.
  21. read this quote from McCarver: "'Where would you put Junior?" McCarver asked. "He can't play defense like [Aaron] Rowand. And how long would you have to pay him? That would be an expensive deal.'" what do you think the odds are he called Aaron Rowand "Eric Rowand" and they added the "[Aaron]" so he doesn't look like a fool, like when he calls Bronson Arroyo "Brandon"?
  22. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) there's just something about Ronald that makes things funny. but he's still a good father. "You're a McDonald, not a whore."
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) I never know which stance to take on Jones, but I'm going to side with DBaho. He really isn't that great of halfback. In fact, The Football Outsiders has him ranked in the bottom third of the league for running backs. he was a borderline bust before coming to Chicago, which explains the low ranking there. he still could end up a bust if he reverts to how he was in Arizona.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) It'll be interesting to see if he starts, what type of runs Turner has for him, because he's the type of back who would look perfect for the Denver Broncos just cuttting back. weird, I was thinking earlier that Jones would be great for Denver, I was going to post something about floating a trade idea towards Denver involving Jones, but decided not to say anything because they've got Tatum Bell and Maurice Clarett, and even if they didn't Shanahan's so confident that any running back will work in his system he wouldn't offer more than a "You'll be in my prayers" for Jones.
