QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) There are a hundred different kind of steroids, so maybe some do just what you said. Many of the details I've read say that stamina also increases. Unless you mean that testosterone shots are taken, because most steroids are taken in conjunction with another drug. yeah they give you stamina to go longer, but for example, the results of lifting steroid-free for 2 hours could be acheived after 1 with steroids.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) No, that's really not how steroids work. I don't think you know what you're talking about. If you take steroids and sit around, you become a fat waste. If you take steroids and work out, you can work out long than you ever could, and your results are much better. I've done a lot of studying about steroids. it's just extra testosterone, which is converted to muscle, and working out enhances the effects. you make steroids sound like metabolife or ephedrine (sp?), which give you more stamina to work out longer.

ESPN Loser Has This To Say about the Sox
AirScott replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not worried about the Garland comment. the only reason everyone is saying he won't keep pitching like this is because the past few years he hasn't pitched nearly as good as this. but the thing is, he isn't walking anyone. he's walking half as many batters than any of his previous years, so it just shows that these people really aren't looking into the reason he's been successful. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Steroids give you the stamina to work out longer and get you better results from that exercise. they still give you more for less. one could take 'roids and just sit around and gain some muscle.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) I wouldn't let Abreu off the hook. 24 homers in the first round?! Damn, Sosa did less than that and he was dead by the final round...but Abreu hit another 11 in the finals. That's just too fishy to me. he took at least 1 pitch between swings, plus he's probably got more stamina than Sosa ever did. remember, if Sosa took steroids, he wouldn't have to work out as long to get the muscles, so he's all power, no stamina.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 07:35 AM) Does Kenny Mayne still work for ESPN??? Is this the only thing he does??? I think that was his voice for the Sportscenter special on fake names, but I'm not sure.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) One of the biggest stories of the AS Game will now be how bad of a reaction Rogers gets. why? it won't consume more than 1 minute total. the announcers will probably ignore it the way the NBA guys did when Kobe was booed at the All-Star game, so they wouldn't be able to drag out the story more than it already has... scratch that. 1st & 10 just came on, and these people are making it a distraction. damn hypocrites, he apoligized, now it's on YOUR shoulders to make this thing go away. this is such a non-story (now I'm the hypocrite, I started this thread). he's going to the all-star game because he was voted in by the players because of the season he's having, and it's not like his ERA rose or he was charged a loss for attacking the cameramen. I would have mocked the arguements these people could make about this situation, Skip Bayless and Woody Paige just made more of a mockery of it themselves.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 06:57 AM) I pose a question for everyone: If rogers did not go, who goes? Do any of you think Freddy would have had a good shot? a lot of people were saying Jeremy Bonderman would have gone had Rogers not.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) How can they have someone like Hee-Seop Choi who has 13 home runs and Ivan Rodriguez with 5 homeruns in the derby? It seems ridiculous that people like Ensber, Ramirez, Pujols, ARod, and Konerko aren't in the derby just because of the "country" rule. Do you have to be in the all star game to be in the derby? I don't like the set-up this year. Choi isn't even in the commercial.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar05/ne...tory?id=2105087 my question is, why wouldn't he have gone? will he really be much of a distraction? what's left to ask him about the incident? "All things considered Kenny, would you do it again?" all that will happen is when he's brought in to pitch, there will be some boos, and maybe Joe Buck will have to take a second to explain why he's being booed. like he said, he's an All-Star and deserves to go.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) I blame all this on Moises Alou. If he hadn't acted like a god damn fool, no big deal is made. The funny thing is, Moises acts like it would've been an easy routine catch had Bartman not gotten in the way. That was gonna be one hell of a difficult play either way. Anyway, you're still my hero Mr. Bartman. you're right about that, Alou threw more of a fit than the Orioles right-fielder did in 1996, when Jeffrey Maier interfered and caught Jeter's hit.

QUOTE(brijames @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) The White Sox are not a 30 game over .500 team. you're right, they're a 28-game-over-.500 team. not quite a 30-game-over-.500 team.

hell yes, just as they were talking about Haren giving up homeruns...CARL EVERETT DOESN'T BELIEVE IN JINXING.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Hey...Frisco...THANKS FOR TAKING THE WORD OF TOMKO OVER AJ. I knew the moment he handed that $100 to Borchard in the Spring that i was gonna like this guy. I said the same thing when I heard that and the story of him kneeing Stan Conte in the nuts as well. funny s***.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Is anyone else getting REALLY annoyed when Sox players, esp fastball hitters, let a FAT first pitch, heart-of-the-plate fastball go by for strike one? A few games ago there was a stat I heard (I think it was actually a Cubs game) where in the MLB as a whole, hitters are batting in the vicinity of .220/.230 after the count is 0-1 and are batting .270/.280 after the count is 1-0 (they gave exact BA #'s I can't remember). I have a feeling that the Sox collective paltry .255 team BA is being affected by this phenomenon. Mr. Paul O-fer Konerko has been letting all kinds of first pitch fastballs go by him lately. I dunno if this is of his own accord or Greg Walker's doing, but it has got to stop! Do what has made you successful! Yesterday Zito gave him a couple first pitch fastballs. Zito gave a lot of Sox hitters first pitch fastballs, yet he knew they'd stand there with the bats glued to their shoulders. If Zito gives you first pitch fastball strike, YOU GOTTA SWING! Once you're down 0-1, all you are going to see is JUNK. And junk is exactly the kind of stuff that will strike out most of our Sox hitters... which is just what happened. Meanwhile on the other side of the plate, Oakland hitters have been doing nearly the same thing. The bats will NOT move from their shoulders on the first pitch (there were some exceptions). They do NOT swing at breaking balls in or out of the strike zone unless there are 2 strikes. They wait there till our pitchers outthink themselves and have thrown them a 2-0 count, then they wait on a fastball in the zone. They're contact hitters that wait for fastballs in the zone after they're up in the count. That's it! That's the great mystery to why they've beaten us. Buerhle had the right idea yesterday when he was doing first pitch strikes only his defense let him down (as his own did last time). Normally Garland pitched like that too only two days ago he didn't have location of his pitches and fell behind many A's hitters. In conclusion: Konerko, swing at first pitch fastball strikes... Frank Thomas was good enough in his hayday to get away with letting the first strike go by, YOU ARE NOT AND NEVER WILL BE THAT KIND OF HITTER Rowand, do what made you a .310 hitter last year, swing at first pitch fastball strikes! Dye, hey you got hot because you stopped letting that first strike go by unchallenged! Ozzie, you wanna win, right? Stop starting Willie and Timo! Aaaargh!!! Oakland is NOT that great of a team, we just make it look that way. a lot of teams can say that, Oakland has always been a scrappy team, and for some reason they just match up really good against the Sox. their pitchers seem to have our hitters' numbers, and they always seem to capitalize on our mistakes.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) was it day that had pinetar or sandpaper in his glove in a game at colorado? I like day, I kind of hope we get him.. he's a sinkerballer, so if he does what he was successful with before this year, he'd be a great addition to this team.

great play. if he could've gotten the runner, it would have been a fantastic play.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I just figured after we failed to do so they would do it and make us look stupid. but, also what Billy Beane was envisioning when he traded for Kendall.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Kendall will move him over with a grounder to second. Chavez will fly out to right and that will be a run. now that's textbook pessimism.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Holy f***! I just realized I was doing PbP in the Pod's Girlfriend thread. Holy s*** I just lost track! Is there any way an Admin can put them in the right thread???? just copy and paste. and leave them there, too. remind everyone of your mistake.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) I was going to say that, but didn't want to get labeled as a pessimist. We probably have more cheap runs this season than the last 3 years combined. Speed does have a lot to do with that though. yeah speed has a lot to do with it. hustle too. but it doesn't matter how you score them, as long as you score them, and I wouldn't call saying that pessimistic.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Against Oakland, off all teams, who seem to get atleast 2 runs a game off us cheaply. I'll take a few many pathetic runs. this team has scored a lot of cheap, pathetic, gift runs. there should be a recorded stat, CPGR, and I bet this team would lead MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) pathetic way to score a run, but i'll take it i guess a run's a run.
-
forgot to say, but nice job breaking up the DP by Timo. that won't show up in the box score, but it should.
-
ok that'll do. just bring Dye in.
