Moss admits to marijuana use 'every blue moon'
AirScott replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) It's obvious it's widespread in all of society, and his use was already known about (as well as with it being found in the car which was already mentioned), but what is the point in saying this? We good could it do, street cred? it's Randy Moss. he's saying it because he was asked about it. what do you expect him to do, the smart thing? say his friend had left it in his car, and he thought it was pencil shavings? -
QUOTE(Reddy @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) why would you wanna keep a griffey who will undoubtably get hurt again (ie no production) over a konerko who, granted, can be streaky? if we acquire Griffey, which we should because another bat is needed, we're essentially stuck with him. his contract and the fact that he's injury prone would make him difficult to trade again. just hope he doesn't get hurt again.

this just seems out of character for pro athletes. in this week's Sports Illustrated, it says when Colorado couldn't resign Forsberg because of cap issues, Forsberg signed with Philadelphia, reportedly for less money than a Western Conference team offered him, out of respect to Colorado, that way he likely won't have to play against them. then Jeremy Roenick waived his no-trade clause when Philly dealed him to LA, saying he wouldn't want to stand in the way of the best player in the world coming to Philly, thus helping out his old team. I was just surprised by this is all, athletes being selfless in their actions.

Canucks, Cloutier agree on deal
AirScott replied to Ozzie Montana's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
does this even qualify as news? but Cloutier is a good goalie, the Canucks should be a contender this year. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) Angelo should of never drafted Benson. But they would not be the Bears unless they made decisions that hurt the team. Also, its just as easy for Benson to say yes. SB I'm against the Benson pick, but the pick didn't hurt the team. it just didn't help is all. there's bigger problems, that being the offensive line and receivers.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) why is it everyone hates pauly so much? he's one of the best offensive 1st basemen in the league... you're all yelling and screaming to aquire another bat. ok fine, we get another bat - then with that added contract let bat X and pauly walk next season? wow so much for an offense at all. .270 with 30 homers and 80 ribbies (rounding) at this point in the season is awesome - wheres the problem? and with that comment of his he was just defending his teamates. i've got tons of respect for pauly and always have. he's the team leader and he's got the offensive numbers to match. without pauly we're just not as good a team. straight up. so lemme hear why y'all wanna dump him. i'm curious. right now we need to keep Paul and add another bat. then see how Pauly and that new bat (to make it easier, let's call him Griffey) do in September and October. then we'd probably have to keep Griffey, and make the decision on Konerko based on how well he does in the playoffs.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) You dont know anything, I MEAN ANYTHING, about Football. That is the most ignorant statement regarding Football I've ever read. ugh you kidding me? I was talking about THE BEARS' offense. seeing as how this is a discussion about THE BEARS, and I followed it with a sentiment about a BEARS RUNNING BACK, I figured the connection was simple. guess I was wrong. but now that we're on the subject, the quarterback position is overrated. Moses Moreno could've lead Elway's Broncos on the 98 yard drive.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) The thing that is a little weird is that he can't/won't be suspended for this because he didn't test positive when he reported for Raider's training camp. He can smoke all he wants after that because there are no other tests for weed throughout the season. The only way he could get suspended is if the league decides to place him back into the substance abuse program based off of these comments. Even though that doesn't guarentee that he will get suspended, it would mean that he would be tested up to ten times a month during the season. Honestly though, is anyone really surprised by this? they found some in his car after he took the traffic officer for a "ride". -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) Thomas Jones isn't a starting running back in this league. He is a slasher, the Bears want a power runner for Ron Turner's offense. He hasn't shown he can be durable for a whole season, and only had 4 games last year where he rushed for over 100 yards. He's going to need to double that this year if he's startin, which I can't see happenin. you're right in one aspect, Jones isn't the back for Turner's offense. but Jones showed last year he could be a starter, four 100 games behind that line ain't bad, specially since he isn't the right back for the system.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Yep that'll work extremely well. The Bears waste the #4 pick, and don't get a big need on offense filled at the same time. RB is not a big need on offense, Jones did well last year, he was the lone bright spot (on offense). that line is the biggest need, if I were QBing for the Bears I'd lobby for a blocking sled over that line.

QUOTE(Gldfinger5 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Does anyone else think that a possible reason the White Sox called him up and that he has started the past 2 games is to showcase his talent for a trade? no, he was called up to fill in for Pods, if they were going to showcase him for a trade he would have been called up 30 days or so ago.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I wouldnt put KGJ in LF because it is harder on your legs to play corner OF positions, not to mention CF is his only real position. He would be more than ok until PODS gets back and then put him in the DH role and leave Carl for spot duty and PH. Rock, in regards to your sig, would Griffey wear 30 with the Sox? that is Raines number.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) So, basically bench depth going into the post season is a problem? I don't let Griffey play the field, I DH him and platoon him, Carl and Dye. why not put him in LF, and platoon Everett, Griffey, and Pods at LF/DH? that way, Pods recovers quicker by not playing the field as much, and Griffey isn't fielding everyday, cutting his chance for injury.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) It would put the ultra-clutch, offensive leader Carl Everett on the bench. :rolly but we were prepared to do that when Thomas came back.
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) I can appreciate what you're saying - I do know that we've had a great season up until right about the all-star break, but we're now 17-18 in our last 35 games. When does this become a trend ? remember everyone saying with the start the Sox had, they could go .500 from here on out and still make the playoffs? well, why not test that theory?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Is Pods causing Dye to hit below 200 in August or Crede to hit below .140. Pods is responsible for Timo playing at that is it. Uribe and Crede killing rallies last night was the reason for the loss. They were walking Arow like he was barry bonds to get to the blackhole of the lineup. URIBE POPS IT UP on the first pitch!!!!!!!!!!!! CREDE POPS IT UP!!!!!!! Uribe's been a better hitter recently. he took a walk from Radke, and Radke has about as many walks as wins. but Crede and Uribe is a blackhole, Ozzie should at least put Anderson between them. as for Griffey, I'd say bring him in as a replacement for Thomas' bat. and put him in LF, and DH Pods. then play Carl like he would have had Thomas stayed healthy. now the hurdle is acquiring Griffey, which JR and KW should do everything in their power to do, whether they have to pay Griffey everything he's owed.
-
I'm not too worried about Hermanson, he's been pitching over his head all year anyway, never overwhelming hitters but still getting it done night after night. keep in mind he only gave up one hit tonight, thought it was a long one. when it comes to taking out Konerko for better defense late, that's just one of those moves where it looks smart if you win and stupid if you lose. Blum made a nice scoop, but Konerko probably would've done the same, he almost always catches what he can get to. that said, I was encouraged by Anderson's night (two really good at-bats, fouling pitch after pitch off, getting a nice hit in one of them), and it's probably not such a good idea to put Crede and Uribe back-to-back, that killed two chances at scoring when Rowand was intentionally walked.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. Mine is that hawk was absoultely right about Griffey. Where WOULD he play? IMO 35 isn't too old to play in the field, but our outfielders are doing fine and we already have backup outfielders. Maybe if we got rid of Timo........ And TheDybber, I whole heartedly agree with you. just DH Pods and put Griffey in LF. Pods isn't that good of a fielder outside of his speed, though he has his moments.

QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) It has gotten to the point , for me, that I will watch the opponent's feeds on DTV before I will watch the Sox Broadcast because of Hawk & DJ. I am an out of towner, so I get this option. The Hawk rants are just so over the top. He has become nothing but a JR spin doctor. Is this latest episode over the Ozzie "homosexual/pedophile" blurt? If Hawk is defending that one, I am totally lost on this guy. are you saying if Hawk is defending a common joke made by Ozzie, you're totally lost on him?

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) I love the Bears defense. If they were to lead the league in takeaways, I wouldn't be surprised. On the other hand, our lack of depth at LB and CB are major holes that can not be taken lightly. We can get by with adequate players at oen particular DT slot, there is no question about it. The NFL is a confusing league. It's difficult to know anything definitively because of injuries, shelf-life, roster turnover, etc. One thing I know for sure is that depth rules all. That's why I have the Patriots at #1, even without Johnson (who retired on July 28, right over my head) and Bruschi. I'd say that they're a no-brain pick for best defense, and the only team that comes close in my eyes is Jacksonville. And just because Buffalo and Carolina have excellent defensive squads, it doesn't mean that they are both locks for the playoffs. Same with Jacksonville, Baltimore, and Chicago. They all have major holes on offense that could turn them into mediocre overall teams. Carolina is my Super Bowl pick in the NFC, but will I be surprised if they don't make the playoffs? Nope. The NFL is crazy like that. I agree with your last segment, in terms of the NFL being crazy. Carolina wouldn't be my pick for the Super Bowl, but when it comes to making the playoffs, the only teams in the NFL that I can't imagine being there are San Fran, Cleveland, and Miami. in case you're wondering (my guess is no), I'd pick Atlanta to rep the NFC in the Super Bowl. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Steve Stenstrom, Dave Krieg, Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart, Shane Matthews... damn, we forget Stenstrom, Krieg, and Tomczak. I just don't remember them starting any games. probably before my time, because the entire list is forgettable. except Stenstrom, I should've remembered him. -
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) I find this feud funny. It's like watching a train wreck. They're both just going to keep taking shots at each other until one or the other goes away. Until then, on with the train wreck! my thoughts exactly. it will be interesting/funny to see how this plays out.

things like this just make me like Hawk even more. it may be unprofessional, and it may be a bit childish, but damn it it's funny.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Don't think the Brew Crew is really to concerned with the IF. Feilder, Weeks, Hall and Helms should be fine for the next few years... The Brewers will be listening to alot of offers for Overbay in the off-season, and I hope and expect the Sox to be one of those teams calling. don't forget JJ Hardy. outside of July he hasn't produced (at all) offensively, but he could be a Gold-Glove SS in 3-4 years.
