  1. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) With performances like these it wont take long to forget about that guy we all wanted from Cincy, what was his name again???? I think his name was Griffey.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines This addresses a few of the most common complaints about the lack of trades. The fact that there were 16 teams with self-percieved playoff shots, leaves 14 realistically possible trade partners. Eliminate the AL Central teams, and we are down to 10. One of those being the Cubs, which is an iffy proposition at best. Someone mentioned we should have acquired Graffanino. See the bold print in the second quote. Unwilling means unwilling, period. Others have said we should have overpaid to get something done. KW agreed with you and made offers accordingly. The only he could have done that he didn't was to put a gun to other guys temple. You may call them excuses. I call it reality. That was the nature of the beast, this year. that's the reason I don't blame KW at all for not making a trade. it seems he would have gotten Griffey, but since Lidner is selling something like 40% of the Reds to a group that won't buy if Griffey's not there, the Reds wouldn't part with Griffey. stupid on the Reds' part, because they had a chance to really improve their pitching with this trade for a couple of prospects.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) 10 million a year is a bit much for someone who didn'y even start most games...he'll be worth it though. Easily capable of 12 pts, 12 bpards, 4 BS. in the NBA just being 6'10'' or taller and not tripping over your own feet when you run nets you $7 million per year. so the defensive skills and hustle got Chandler that extra 3.
  4. I guess sometimes it takes a few weeks to realize that it's easier to run the routes when you know which route to run.
  5. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) haha when I first read that, I thought it was resigning as in leaving. same here, it confused me.
  6. anybody know where I could get video of this?
  7. well you have to score runs to win (obviously), and it's rare you score a run by taking a walk. so player B.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) How about this...Timo and Ozuna were going to be on the team no matter what because ozzie loves them, Widger has to be on the roster cause he's our backup catcher, kenny made a bid for Graff but didn't get him. Basically there are 3 guys on the bench that were going to be there no matter what, that leaves one spot open if we carry 12 pitchers which we have been doing lately. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully for the playoffs we carry 11 pitchers and Ross Gload is the extra bat off the bench cause Ross can hit. correct me if I'm wrong, but since rosters expand to 40, it doesn't matter how many pitchers we carry if we want Gload up here.
  9. I especially liked this line: "Instead, much like his claim in June that Greg Maddux throws spitters, he sounds like a wannabe gossip columnist spewing nonsense." sounds like Mariotti has found his protege.
  10. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) That's BS. Look at the history of this club. Hasn't won a WS since 1917 and the Sox have been to the playoffs sparingly and they have been to the WS even more sparingly since 1917 with consistent LOSING results. well if we start Joe Jackson in left field today, you've got a point.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Along with half the board. But if you think Borchard is gonna somehow be good, you go right ahead and believe that. He sucks. I bet even he knows it. And if you think those minor league players are going to help us when we're already in the middle of blowing a gigantic division lead, you go right ahead and believe that, too. you're so negative. although I'm with you on Borchard.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Or that the 271 and 279 months were when this HOF type hitter was hitting 3rd and went on the DL late in July. Then that + pods = bad. which supports what I'm saying: we need another bat and Pods in the lineup...c'mon KW, you've got less than 7 hours.
  13. or you can look at it this way: this month, the Sox are hitting .244, 26th in the majors. in June they hit .271 and July hit .279. even in May the team average was .254. or you could say it's a complete coincidence that the team's worst month in terms of average happens to be the same month that their leadoff hitter misses 2 weeks and hits .211.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Some fans are in massive denial about this team's problems. It's ok though, that's the way they view things. we've still got problems, and are in need of a quality lefty bat. but it won't be as bad once Podsednik can play every day.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) You think the difference in everyone's AVG in August is due to Podsednik being on the DL? Oh boy... well this month only Konerko, Everett, and Dye are hitting over .280, and in May thru July Pods hit .304, .296, and .308, which were months where Iguchi hit .275 then .244 (an aberration) and .293, Dye hit .275 then .337 then .293, and so on. so Pods' best 3 months happen to be most everone elses' best 2 or 3 months.
  16. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) When all 7 come against good, or playoff-caliber teams, i call that more than a random slump we knew would happen. like I've said, we didn't have Podsednik in those games. he comes back, goes 0-5 and we lose, then goes 3-5 and we win, and currently is not playing and we're losing. it's more of an unfortunate time to play those playoff-caliber teams.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Would fading be a better term? Any team that loses about 7 games from their divisional lead in one month will get classified as choking in baseball. The good news is that there's still plenty of time left to regroup and play better baseball. The bad news it that there's still plenty of time left to lose more games from our lead. This isn't even me being pessimist....just a realist (I think!). I knew once Pods was DLed that this would be a rough 2 weeks. and it was. he's really the most important player on the team. so maybe the best term would be "looking-like-they-might-fade-if-they-don't-turn-it-around-soon". and losing 7 games of a lead in a month would be choking if that lead was normal, 9 or 10. but it was 15. and I'd say you're more leaning towards being a pessimist. right on the fence of pessimist and realist.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) I said they're choking...not that they choked. I was going to say they're collapsing, but with all the struggles going on with the hurricane, I thought I'd use a different word. I wouldn't even call it choking, they're still 6-4 in their last 10, playing without the player who pretty much goes where the offense goes. this isn't a good hitting ballclub, and they all hit better when Pods is on base and the pitcher has to worry about him. now Pods is back, so things should go back to how they were.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) That's the definition of choking. don't you actually have to lose to have choked? if a team is favored in a 7 game series, wins the first 3, loses 2, then wins the next and wins the series 4-2, is that considered a choke? no, so neither is losing half of the lead in the division when the other team is surging and one team is struggling, playing mostly without Pods, and before he was on the DL, he was hurt.
  20. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) They project we go 3-13? LMAO Open to all bets . We will win more than 3 games. anybody know what Vegas' is setting the Bears at for wins? cause if it's 3, I'd definitely take the over and make a cool...well $20, since that's all the money I've got right now.
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) brutal, so you mean to tell me that this team was prepared at teh QB position? apparently in teh offseason hutchinson could back up grossman, but now he cant even back up orton. this front office i must say did a decent job this offseason with mushy, but please. this is a joke. we shoulda signed jeff garcia or kurt warner or someone no, not Kurt Warner. he's a statue back there, with this line he could fumble 20-30 times.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) ding ding ding, we have a winner. Dont forget that Crede was also an offensive power in the minors as well. Crede showed some promise when he first came up, too. what happened there?
  23. hey, a good special teamer, and another fun name to say to go along with Adwale Ogunleye.
  24. I just figure I'll critque you're team. I would have stayed away from the Detroit guys (Williams and Jones) because there's not enough to go around. On second thought, Jones is a good decision, teams will always have to respect their passing game, so the only selection I have a problem with is Williams. still, Collins will make or break your team, because like Bill Simmons' column said today, Collins' always has the highest ceiling and lowest basement. but having Randy Moss should make Collins look a little like Peyton Manning this year.
