that rookie with the 7+ ERA is held in pretty high regards, Francisco Liriano. I just hope that the hitters keep their heads about them and do what they are capable of, or it could be ugly...facing Ervin Santana early in the year ugly.

Official NFL General Discussion Thread

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) I switched over to the Letterman show when there were close to 4 minutes left in the game with the Cowboys leading 13-0. When I finally got back to the game at the 2 minute warning, the Redskins were up 14-13. After reviewing the replays, I couldn't believe my eyes. Brunell must have had a horseshoe planted waaay up his ass, as Roy Williams was within inches (seemingly) of deflecting the ball both times. Letterman?...wow, you missed a hell of a finish. I sort of agree on Brunell, those passes were perfectly placed, he hit Moss right in stride. however, even those these athletes have been going further and further, using steroids, making deals with the devil (Kurt Warner, Kenny Rogers' last two first halves), they haven't resorted to sticking horseshoes in their asses. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) We do not suck. But have you ever thought maybe the sox suck? I think he was referring to the Sox as sucking anyway. you see, fans refer to their teams as "we." although some people here seem to be distancing themselves from the Sox.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Lets focus on tonights game first. well you'd better get you're uniform on and play. fans can look forward to this type of thing.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) "Willie Hayes is the name. Hit like Willie, run like Hayes!" it's "Hit like Mays, run like Hayes." don't worry, it'll come natural after you've seen it for the 125th time.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Lou Piniella is being bought out by Tampa. It is still unclear if he must sit out a year. He would look great in the 3rd base dugout of USCF. In my opinion, he's a step up from Ozzie...a fiery manager, except Piniella's baseball IQ is higher. thing is, I wouldn't say Ozzie has done anything to get fired (yet, it really depends on how this season ends).

QUOTE(Nokona @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!! correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Iraq spelled backwards "QARI"? I don't think that means anything.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) doesn't really matter what happens in the bottom half, we probably lose this game somehow I hate everything so much right now it sounds like you're saying, "even if we score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 9th, we still somehow lose this game."

looked like a hell of an at-bat, I need to plunk down the $20 for mlb.tv

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) What does my avatar have to do with the FACT that the White Sox are in position to win the division? you sounded (typed, seemed, whatever) like you're excited about it.

I like it, I love it, I want some more of it...and I hope that song gets stuck in everyone who reads this heads.

Ozzie has to realize that he isn't Tony La Russa and try to refrain from using 4 relievers in less than 2 innings and just let the pitchers pitch.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Man, dare I say Chicago sports are slowly becoming winners - the Cubs? Bears look good, Bulls are good, Sox in position to win Central....wow! you wouldn't think so by reading a lot of things on this board...or looking at your avatar.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) I'd probably juice too if I was a 7th round fullback. yeah, try to stay in the league until I get the pension. then I'd give up the juice.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Where was he last week? He's never going to hold up for a whole season. If he does this year, and runs for 1300+ yards, then you can rub it in my face all you want. Until then, he's just an average back who's been a bust as a top (he was picked in the top ten, right?) pick. I'd say he's a border-line bust as it is, he was picked 7th (?) by the Cardinals. he has shown he has the talent to be successful, but never really put it all together. but last week the Redskins were keyed in on the run, they forced Orton to attempt to beat them. seemed to work, didn't it?
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) When Jones does this for a whole season, against a defense that's just a wee bit better than Detroit's, then tell me he's a good back. he was doing this last year, even when he was the only threat because teams knew Jonathan Quinn couldn't hit any receivers, and the receivers sucked. remember, there was no Marty Booker, our "#1" was Justin Gage last year.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Good receivers come a dime a dozen in this league. There are more than just a few teams with 3 or more capable receivers in this league. Let's see, there's St. Louis, Detroit, Oakland, Cleveland, Indianapolis, San Diego, etc. Now, good RBs on the other hand? Precious commodities. That's why you go for the horse when he's available. There is absolutely no argument. You always grab the potential franchise back and hit the FA market for good WRs, who are everywhere. You don't waste a high pick on one. Well, he's only been in the league for 13 years now. All-Pro Caliber? Yeah, back in 1998. He is nowhere near what he once was. I'm just saying that a RB was the least of our worries going into the draft. 6-5, 230 pound receivers with great hands and good speed aren't a dime-a-dozen in this league, though. Mike Williams will help this team out more this year than Benson, but now that I think of it, keep starting Jones, raise his trade value and bring in some WR help for next year. and read my post about Wilkinson again. I said when he's on his game, which, unfortunately for Lions fans, is about 2-3 games a year.

I just can't believe, with the way it started out and continued through July, that it is actually coming down to the 6 games vs. the Tribe in September.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Thomas Jones might kick some ass against a defense like this, but let's not forget that he's slightly above average at best. Would he make a Top 25 list of RBs in this league? Perhaps, but barely. Now, Cedric Benson? There is a good possibility that he could be Top 10 in his prime. Oh, and Soxfan101, I consider Wilkinson to be merely adequate at this juncture (why he's not listed despite the fact that he starts over Bell), and I believe that Bly can sniff out big plays, but he's nothing more than adequate on coverage. you see, Jones is above average, which is better than we can say for the receivers and O-line (which has improved, it seems). drafting Mike Williams would give Orton two quality receivers to throw to, thus improving the run game and passing attack because defenses would have to worry about a receiver not named Muhammad. look at the stats for today, Muhammad caught 6, nobody else caught more than 2, and only Gage had more than 10 per catch, while Jones ran wild. and Wilkinson is a head-case, but when he's on his game he's All-Pro caliber.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) Thomas Jones is a good NFL starter in my opinion. That's why I never got the Benson pick. That said, looks like a big win for the Bears today and Joey Harrington not having a good day. This division blows. Let't see how Green Bay responds today. The BEars might have the only c-plus or better D in the division. Detroit's is a bit overrated after last week, Minnesota's is obviously overrated (even to my surprise) and we all know Green Bay's hasn't been good in years. I've been saying that since April. going into the draft, we had bigger worries than RB, if we draft Mike Williams we'd be drafting the receiver we thought David Terrell would be.
