QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Willie will like Charlotte. The groupies are easier in the minors a lot of the time than they are in the majors. he's a big-shot in the minors, he can stories about how life is in the majors. you can order whatever you want whatever time you want from room service.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Willie's being in the line-up in the 2 hole has cost the White Sox 2 runs so far tonight. I think he is probably punching his ticket to Charlotte. well I've heard Charlotte's nice this time of year, and besides, Willie is more of an East-coast guy anyway.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) You have that mentality your lead is cut in half before you can blink. yeah, but with a 5-game lead you're only just starting to sweat.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I was really hoping that no one would use the record as the answer to my thought. I don't know what our record has been lately with our "Sunday" lineup in the game, but everyone here knows how much we struggled at the beginning of the season with these types of lineup. you're right, but keep in mind it took him a while to realize that when bench players are subbed into the lineup, they don't have to take the place of that player in the order when the game hasn't started. actually I think the record might be the motivation, maybe he's going with the "you don't have to win them all with an 11 game lead on the division" mentality.

ooooh close. 43 steals for the All-Star.

nope, nevermind. last inning.

didn't Hatteberg's 6-3 DP come this inning?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Oakland owns us. Not a lot more you can say. well, it's only 1-0, they haven't swept us yet.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) If only we had that Kendall shift that we had on last series, that would have been a routine DP! what the hell was with that shift anyway? Kendall's all about placing his grounders/line-drives. I have to say I saw that hit he had in the last series coming.

was I the only one that heard Hawk say "God damn it" after Swisher's double? or was it "dag-nab-it"?

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) He's not that much better then Rowand... I say showing loyalty to him does more for team image in the long run... Rowand is more of a hard-nosed player, Wells seems a to be more of a slacker (at least that's what they make him out to be after BBTN grilled him for not getting the ball in quick enough on a single by Tejada, he sort of non-chalantly picked up the ball as Tejada went for 2nd).

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) How many times have Sox players who were clearly better been screwed out of an ASG spot because of voting? For that matter, I'm still angry about Thomas getting screwed out of the MVP back in 2000 by roid -freak Giambi. I totally think Pods should be there because while the only stat he has that stands out is his steals he does so much for this team. Between him and Gooch they carried the offense while the sluggers were struggling. He helps other hitters get good counts and better pitches to hit because his presence on the basepaths is a major distraction to the opposing team. Not everything a player does to make a team better gets counted in the stat column. What has Jeter or Matsui done to make their team better? well, besides keep them afloat, nothing I guess. but I agree with the rest, Pods' average isn't too shabby, neither is his OBP, and his OPS is so low because he doesn't hit for power (why should he, he gets on 1st and then steals 2nd, that's as good as a double right there). I'd say his 41 steals along with the solid average and OBP makes him a legit all-star.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Everyone in baseball knows the White sox have a shot at going to the big game, if one of the big fish are approached and they've got a clause in thier contract, they'll come. Say, Andy or Roy....We're thinking about sending you to a team that with your help is a shoe in for the world series, it's a three month loan so think about it....all those dudes want rings. I think its a pretty easy move on thier part. you'd think so, but remember Rafael Palmeiro last year? -
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) "Ah, Jesus. I like him very much. But he no help hit curve ball." are you saying that Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) So did Sasaki, and he was like 35 at the time. And Shingo came in second last year, I think. He finished behind Bobby Crosby, the most undeserving ROY in the history of baseball. same thing happened to Hideki Matsui in 2003.

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Thing is we cannot pick and choose when players are good. If that was the case we could take away vizcaino's four worst outings and he would look solid. I never really understand the why people say "" you take away that game he gave up 11 runs he would have a really nice era''. Well guess what? He did give up those 11 runs and his era doesn't look so pretty. that's because the numbers are deceiving. for example, Trevor Hoffman's ERA this year is 3.95, but he gave up 4 runs in his first outing. with the few innings that relivers pitch, one outing can really make them look like they're having a bad year, but Hoffman's ERA had he not pitched that game is 2.70. he's been his usual self besides that game, which is why they say that. -
What Former Sox player should have his number

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Retired numbers should be reserved for HOF'ers, IMHO. Hall of Famers, lifers (like Barry Larkin and Frank Thomas), or players that were an integral piece in championships. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) Aurillia is not their primary two hole hitter... not even close. He is hitting .250 with men on and .189 with men in scoring position. Men not being on is not the case in this situation. you don't need stats to tell you that. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) I wonder what we could get from the D-Backs for Vizcaino of he has a few more scoreless innings. Maybe a bucket of balls? every baseball team needs balls. we might have to throw in Timo. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) I gotta go for now, so I'm going to make this really simple. Jason Schmidt's ERA this season is 4.81. He's had only 4 good starts and loads of other mediocre to poor starts. Until he drops that number quite a bit or can string together 3-4 more good starts, I don't even want to consider giving up our top two prospects and eating a bunch of money to acquire him based on the CHANCE that he could pitch like the Schmidt of old and get us to the Series. Until I see some indication that he can consistently pitch like Garland or Garcia, I don't want to give up that much for him. thankfully there is another month until the trade deadline. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) The problem with Zito is he is signed through next year too. We've already got 5 starters for next season, plus B-Mac and potentially some other prospects may be competing to try to sneak into the rotation. Then you'd have 6 major league starters plus the other guys. that would be a great problem to have. you can always trade the guys you don't need. -

I really like seeing Atlanta starting to get hot, because the further out the Marlins get the more likely Burnett is to be traded. that seems like a KW move. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) The point is that unless something bad happens getting another starting pitcher is a waste of talent and money. If you acquire someone like Schmidt, either Jon or Freddy or him will have their effectiveness drastically minimized in the playoffs, which is supposedly what the deal is meant to help us with. I don't see how. too many starting pitchers is a great problem to have come playoff time. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) He only had 5 K's in the first one against our division rival, and there were 18 flyball outs in those two games. I didn't watch the games, but I gotta imagine at least one or two balls would have done more damage in the Cell. the second one he had 10, the jury is definitely out on Schmidt for a while. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) I hope it's not too late to get back on the Barry Zito bandwagon. so far tonight: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 K, and he gave up a homerun to Ichiro.
