  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) There's 32 teams in the NFL. oops, my bad. too much typing in too little time.
  2. anyway only 8 teams out of 30 makes the playoffs, or 26%. in the NFL it's 12 out of 32, 50%. NBA it's 16 of 30, 53%, same as NHL. so baseball's regular season is the most meaningful of the 4, so no changes are necessary.
  3. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) If I was in charge of Mlb I would make 4 divisons and have the DH play in every park and their will be no wild cards making the playoffs.. Division1 would be the Sox,Cubs,STL,Milw,Clev,Cinn,Det Division2 would be Balt,Bost,Yanks,Mets,Phillies,Wash, Pitt Division3 would be Angels,Seattle,Oak,SD,LA, SF,Colo,AZ Divison4 would be Toronto,TX,Hous,Minn,Atl,Fla,TB What changes would you make.. you forgot the Royals...
  4. he wasn't good for Oakland last year, which was a season he spent in the AL after 2003 with the Marlins, where he did well. he was so-so in 2002 with Detroit and has been pretty good this year with Pittsburgh. for some reason, that pitcher's spot has helped his numbers signficantly (although offenses tend to be better all-around in the AL, anyway), so nay.
  5. been in some good movies the past few years (Old School, Dodgeball), and we now have one up on the Red Sox in terms of celebrity fans (Ben Affleck sucks).
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) The same thing happened to Foulke with us that's happening to him now...he lost the bite and location on his changeup back in late 2000 or in 2001...that's why he ended up in the minors and that's why we traded him to Oakland. Foulke is just a roller coaster. He has these absolutely amazing highs like he hit last year or like when he got our closer role in 2000, and then he just loses it for a year or so. Boston just has to hope he finds whatever it is he lost before the end of the year. On the other hand, he'll probably come at a reduced price if anyone does want to trade for a closer. I don't want him back...if we need anything we need longer relief, but he's a good guy to take a chance on. he lost it for the first half of 2002. numbers that year: Pre All-Star - 41 innings, 40 hits, 22 ER, 4.83 ERA, 31 Ks, 10 BBs, 5 HR Post All-Star - 36.2 innings, 25 hits, 3 ER, 0.74 ERA, 27 Ks, 3 BBs, 2 HR other than that first half of 2002 and this part of 2005, he's been a premier closer. and the final half of 2002, but that's because Jerry Manuel was too much of a bonehead to have the guy that was lights out again close games.
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Why would we want him? I don't know if you guys have noticed, but he is horrendous this year. He has probaly worn out his welcome in Boston, and some GM would be willing to take a chance on him. I could defiantly see him being traded. remember he had this kind of year in 2002? then after the break, he rolled of 20+ innings without an earned run, 10+ of no hit ball, and wasn't made closer, traded for Bill Koch, went on to save 75 games in 2 years and pitched the last out of the World Series? he's most likely not going anywhere, but if he is, I hope it's to the South Side.
  8. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) if you ask me, Uribe's approach to offense and defense is the same: undisciplined he gets by on raw tools.... he takes the ugliest swings EVER at the ball and sometimes muscles it somewhere. just look at how the ball comes off his bat... even on the HR's he always looks like he just missed what he was trying to do. defense: again, bad form catching and sometimes throwing. i'm not a fan of those high arc throws, but he gets by. he gets by on that raw strength. if the guy ever got under control and listened to some advice... he'd be consistent and impressive. instead of occasionally impressive. that's dead-on. also pretty obvious. but dead-on.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) How about a guy with great range and a great arm like Uribe??? I'm just a huge fan of Uribe's defense and princesdye at this time there is no question Juan is a better defender then Vizquel imo. wow, you really are a huge fan of Uribe's defense. Vizquel, I think, is still the premier fielding SS in the game. he's turned some spectacular double plays with Deivi Cruz this year, really a treat to watch.
  10. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Everyone read that one more time. Yes, sox-Royce was better defensively than Uribe. people are treating this thread like Uribe is goddam Vizquel. It's not a slight at Uribe; it is something Konerko believes, no more no less. the only reason we signed Royce was because of his defense. Uribe more for his offense. the first thing I thought after reading this was it was a question about defense, where Royce is still solid.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) I know you weren't suggesting that Mclendon should be on the hot seat but I personally think he does a fantastic job for what he's given but that's jmo. McLendon is a damn good manager, the Pirates really don't have much on that roster besides Oliver Perez (and he's been struggling), yet they're 30-34. they could be in the thick of things if they still had Giles and Kendall.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Correct me if I am wrong.. but Royce rarely moved. Everything within arms shot he got to.. but he was a statue out there was he not..? yeah but he made those plays with the best of them.
  13. can we make a smilie that pats itself on its back, because my last post could really use one.
  14. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) He said he hopes to pitch lights out the remainder of this and next year and get a huge deal from the SOX the year before the final year. He said he is a die hard Cardinal and WHEN THE SOX, THE SOX, THE SOX THE SOX give up on HIM HIM HIM HIM then he would like to pitch for the Cardinals. well I thank YOU YOU YOU YOU for clearing that up.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) That's actually a smart idea. I'll probably do that. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) i have never thought about it that way, that is actually a great idea. i am joining your campaign uh oh, it seems like wherehaveyougoneharold is going to end up with a revolutionary idea. and I'm dead serious.
  16. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) why do you spell guarantee "guaruntee"? well, I guess I'm in no place to criticize. (to steal a phrase from Hawk, "man, I luuuuuuuuuuuuv these smilies")
  17. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Because I cant spell. well that works, just choose one spelling and stick with it. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) and the lakers still wont make the playoffs next year! hey I told you, last year they had no coach or team concept. now they have Phil Jackson, who brings both and the triangle, which is an upgrade over their offensive system the past year, known as "Pass-to-Kobe-and-watch". oh, baseball, right. let's bring Everyday Eddie to the Sox!
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) I think you will see a name change with the new ownership announced today for the Mighty Ducks. that's one problem fixed.
  19. QUOTE(wherehaveyougoneharold @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Well, if nobody wants to help me, I guess D'Angelo Jimenez can go to bed happy tonight seeing my 25 votes. D'Angelo Jiminez will go to bed happy tonight, but that's because the Reds are still required to pay him his salary. he's the highest paid player in AA, at $2.87 M, according to ESPN.com.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) They are not contracting. Neither the player's union (less jobs) nor the owners (less revenue in the overall pot) will let that happen - at least in the short term. And Atlanta and Florida WILL make the playoffs next year. Count on it. I'm just saying they should. the quality of play is better with less teams (as more players who could cut it with 30 teams are left in the minors with 25) and those aren't really sports towns. nobody goes to any games of any sport in Atlanta and Miami, so why have hockey teams there? and with the LA Kings, why have the Mighty Ducks 40 miles away? and don't get me started on the Mighty Ducks, even though they made the Stanley Cup Finals 2 years ago they are a team based on a Disney movie. less teams is better for the game is what I think.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) You're insane.
  22. oh yeah, and Eddie Guardado would be a welcome addition to this team.
  23. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Well guys KW is going to add huge position player at the deadline. This just guerntees it! why do you spell guaruntee "guerntee"? does this make your guaruntee less meaningful, as you also guernteed the Lakers won't make the playoffs next year?
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Ughhh. Why does he keep saying this s***? I'm not worried. he said he'd like to play for the Cards half-jokingly right before signing that extension, so at least it's not the Twins.
  25. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Greg Maddux? I refuse to believe it.
