QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) willie has more years left in him than timo, im sure some team out there is looking for a left handed bat off the bench, maybe we could somehow package him and ozuna "Mr. DePodesta, we have Ken Williams on the line." DePodesta: "What is it Ken? We haven't talked since you tried to trade me Billy Koch for a turkey sandwich." KW: "How about this? Willie Harris and Pablo Ozuna for Yhency Brazoban." DePodesta: "Nice try." KW: "How about you buy me lunch Friday?" DePodesta: "I'll think about it." (I edited in Harris for Perez, the joke is the same, but more accurate to what you were saying)

Does your White Sox Fandomaffect you Fantasy Team?

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) i have another issue where i just dont like playing one of my batters versus an opposing pitcher that i have starting, or a white sox guy vs one of my pitchers, who do you root for when the Sox played the Indians earlier this week, I was going to sit CC Sabathia. it's a thought that crosses my mind pretty much every time, but I know where my heart's at. (a personal milestone: the first time I used a "smilie") -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) I have Morneau on one team and Santana on another. It's easy. You hope they have a good game and the twins lose. I have Joe Mauer and Jaque Jones. the only problem is the conflict of interest thing. you don't want to be like the guy in the Best Buy commercial that shouts "THAT GUY'S ON MY FANTASY TEAM!" after a TD is scored against their team and everyone's bummed out. just remember, the real life team comes first. but yeah, I have Konerko and Iguchi on my team. I took Gooch late in the draft when I needed a backup 2B, and only ended up with him because Chase Utley was taken right before my turn. there were really no 2Bs, and from what I had heard about Gooch I figured he'd be a solid backup, but until this week he's been my starter over Luis Castillo (who had been injured). -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) He has always dominated lefties, it's not my fault he has done the exact opposite this season. I don't believe i loved him either... i thought he was passable. he didn't seem like an ideal choice to upgrade the bullpen, but he was better than what we had.

man I dont like that WGN theme.

12+ years, maybe since i was 5 or 6. an early memory I have is playing RBI 94 for Sega, and throwing a complete game shut-out with Wilson Alvarez. on the real-life side of it, I remember a lot of plays from Ventura and bombs from Frank Thomas.

still doubt timo in the utility role, haters?
AirScott replied to robin_ventura_eternal's topic in Pale Hose Talk
yeah it sounds like the one to beware of is Gene Honda Civic. -
my problem with the Twins being so close right now is that we have the best record in baseball. we're 41-19, and only have a 5.5 game lead on a 4 game winning streak.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) If you're only a week old and can type coherently on a message board you must be some kind of uber-supergenius. yeah it's taken me 5 months to hone that skill. -
its true, plus that way it makes for a more exciting race all season.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) he has lost us one too so he's 2-1 for us. that's about our winning percentage this year, so he's been up to par with us.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Last three starts = one good week. Big fat hairy deal. Granted, he's pretty good, but I don't think he's that good. he obviously won't shy away when the pressure's on, so those three starts showed his character and make-up, which are important qualities in a pitcher. the fact that he did it late in the season tells me he won't break down. sort of sounds like a righty Buehrle with a little more velocity and a great curve.

it's a great point/post, and smart thinking from Ozzie. if we can keep winning 2 of 3 in every series and everyone's still relatively fresh come September and October, it will help us in the 1st round, especially if that team had to make a late push.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) Did they make him a closer in Major League 2? Because I swear they had him closing games in the playoffs (against none other than Parkman and the White Sox). I don't remember Major League 2 as vividly as the first (as you can see), but he probably did because of the whole "It's-a-sequel-so-we-have-to-repeat-what-we-did-in-the-original" rule.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:11 AM) Wasn't wild thing a closer? And that first picture looks like it's from the 70's. He looks like such a douche. he closed out the series vs. the Yankees. they skipped him in the rotation because of his struggles against them. then he came in from the pen and struck out Clue Haywood on 3 fastballs.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) I think 3 lefties is fine in the bullpen anyway, especially if you have 7 guys in there. Seattle had like 4 at the start of the season IIRC. yeah but we have more pressing needs, and that's a pitcher too many anyway. I really wish Vizcaino was working out for us, it would make things a lot easier.
-
think if he went back to that look the karma from Rick Vaughn would guaruntee him 20 wins?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Marte and Cotts. I am counting 2 unless you included the almighty Kevin Walker. no I meant with Guardado we'd have 3. probably should change it to 2, it makes more sense that way. in fact, consider it done.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) I would have guardado close over hermanson i. I know no one else will agree with me because '' he has earned it''. But i think it is pretty clear he is pitching way over his head. He might have a flukey year and posts crazy numbers but chances of that happening seem slim to me. With guardado you know what you are getting more or less and i would feel safer with him in big time games. Another reason i can see guardado over hermanson is because we would not have three left handers in middle relief ( cotts, marte, guardado). If we put hermanson as our closer we would have one right hander out of the pen we can rely on ( politte). having 2 lefties in middle relief makes a Guardado trade less likely, and because Hermanson is in fact pitching over his head, there won't be a trade for another closer until he comes back down to earth.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) So Paul Konerko could hit over .300 if he took that kind of mentality as well. Gotta remember Greg Walker is our hitting coach. Konerko never did that. Griffey did and could, if he'd adjust. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) You keep talking about Griffey's prime years. He is 35 years old now. Even star ballplayers eventually decline. Ken Griffey and Frank Thomas both have. Although I'd rather have Frank than Griffey at this stage in their respective careers because of Frank's high OBP due to his ability to draw a ton of walks. Griffey doesn't walk much. He strikes out a lot though. I'd still take them both, though, if Griffey altered his approach. that's all I'm saying.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I don't think there's any way Griffey's going to hit for .320 again in his career again. if you don't remember, he used to spray line drives everywhere back in the day. he could still do that now, but he insists on trying to swing for the fences every time. so he could, but his homerun totals would be down.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Adding a 35 year old player with $66 million left on his contract with the hopes of him reverting to his 90's form is not a very good idea. that $66M could be $50M for us, and I'm not thinking of reverting him to 90s form, but he could still be a .320/20/100 guy, but he just tries too much to jack it out every time. but with Brian Anderson waiting, it's not a great idea. unless we spin off Brian Anderson for an absolute stud, it doesn't really make sense.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) Even without looking at the negatives to Griffey (old, injury-prone, bloated contract), it would still make no sense to add him. We have Podsednik and Dye for 1 more year, Rowand for 3 years, and good prospects like Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney coming up the ladder. Anderson could be ready next season. It would make more sense to spend money on a stud 3rd baseman, dump Konerko, and sign a decent 1st baseman like Scott Hatteberg. what if we were to get Randa in the deal?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Yes, Griffey's inability to stay healthy is one of the reasons the Reds can't find a taker. No team wants a 35 year old, expensive, injury-prone CF'er. I guess I just don't understand why fans would want him either. I think they are just too in love with the memories of Griffey in his prime. That is the player they want, not the present-day, declining Griffey. he's still a good player, and any chance that he returns close to the form he was in the 90s is why I'd want him. maybe if he'd stop trying to hit homeruns every swing and hit like he used to, he'd be using the whole field and getting hits, just not as many homeruns. more of the smart-ball player we need.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Ok my thoughts; 1) I give Griffey until the end of the month before he gets injured again. 2) PK's deal runs out at the end of this season. Even if we don't resign him, that's $8 million that can be spent in the off-season. Payroll will get increased by another $5 to $7 mill for next season, so that's $15 mill to spend right there. 3) We want to spend our money on players who are coming into their prime and can contribute for a number of seasons. Yes Griffey is hitting the ball well this MONTH, but you don't seriously believe that's going to happen over a 4 year period do you? 4) Willy Mo Pena and Austin Kearns are better trade ideas than Ken Griffey Jr. 5) Why would Cincinatti trade for PK when they already have Sean Casey at 1st? 6) How good is Jermaine Dye going to defence at 1st? about #1 - I really hope not, I'm pulling for the guy. #3 - all I want is to win now, and if Griffey hits well for any number of reasons and can help this club win this year, I'm happy. #4 - Kearns isn't doing to well, and before Pena got injured he was mashing the ball. #5 - well, I'm not the one that brought up Konerko. I think we might be able to get him for less, and Griffey could help this club. or create a log-jam in the OF.
