  1. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 07:47 PM) And that's all it should take if we aren't asking for any $ back. Give them Mike Recchia and Jason Coats or something like that and I'm sure they would jump at it to rid themselves of the contract. The whole question with Victorino is how his medicals look. 34 year olds with bad backs are scary. But if our doctors feel ok with his back I would have no problem with him in LF for 1 year. Who cares about the $13M? That's JR's problem and it wouldn't affect the team what so ever for the future. Victorino and eaton are sure bets to get hurt next year wether it's a 15 day dl stints or day to days etc they just can't play a whole season. Then what happens? Especially if it's at the same time. Some combination of danks,Leaury, campana, viciedo?
  2. He'd be such a great fit and you don't have to trade any assets to get a LFer. Offer 48/4y
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) According to mlbtraderumors, Mariners have offered Melky a 3 year deal. I say go for 4 years and get it done. Also saw that I think the royals are only comfortable going 2-3 years so yes let's try to sign him
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) Dombrowski says that they aren't talking to Scherzer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he returns to Detroit. That's another reason why I want the Sox to sign him. If he joins our rotation, the Sox would be consensus picks to win the Division. If Detroit signs him, they are still the team to beat. The Sox don't have a single big long term, expensive contract. That's the one that would put them over the top. I would love scherzer but don't want that contract on this team. But anyways, I agree, I don't believe the Tigers are completely out on scherzer like dombroski claims. He said the same thing about fielder then signed him like a week later lol. Also, there just aren't many options for scherzer. Only big market/high payroll teams can afford him and a lot aren't going to sign him that are known like LAD, LAA, Cubs, at this point most likely not Red Sox with all their pitching additions, Giants I don't think since they would have got lester instead, so that leaves the Yankees and tigers? And haven't really heard much on the Yankees getting him but they probably are quietly doing this?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 07:14 PM) The line about too LH makes no sense to me. You have Avi and Eaton out there, with Shuck probably the 4th outfielder. If the Cubs sign Gomes, I wonder if they'd make Ruggiano available? I remember seeing on mlb network I think it was, a projected sox lineup for next year and it had danks as a starting ofer, so maybe he was thinking danks and eaton are starters
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) http://blog.thenewstribune.com/mariners/20...o-upgrade-club/ Damn you, Rios! I don't know if the link was posted already but I saw this from the Seattle times too
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) He's going to be bad in the AL. He was bad in the second half , 5th starter. I think the Tigers are a better team with Porcello. Cespedes is pretty much replacing hunter and Simon replacing porcello
  8. They're getting Simon. I was worried it'd be Latos or somehow cueto. This past season was his first as a full time starter, at 33 years old and made the all star team but sucked in the second half. Now moving to the al
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) Brandon McCarthy knocking down a 4-year deal with LA https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/542897400767971328 Incredible what that half season with the Yankees did for him
  10. Just saw the signing bonus is actually for 30mil lol
  11. Olney says Lester gets a signing bonus of around 20 mil.
  12. Longoria for 8 seasons? How would that end up lol
  13. This was awesome lol: @AdamSpankyEaton: “@Cubs_Chatter: @MitchellDean22 @AdamSpankyEaton we have World Series rings idiot” did they make rings then?
  14. "@RealJoshReddick: ......." Send him over with samardzija lol
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) One of the reporters on MLB Network called the Sox his "sleeper team" for the meetings. Also brought up Scherzer again. I would only feel comfortable giving scherzer 6 years at about 25 mil but he already turned that down so ...should be interesting
  16. I don think anyone will give melky five years. Yes, markakis is a year older but has been a steady, good player his whole career and Cruz , well the Mariners were the only team to offer 4 years but were desperate for his power. Just don't see it. It's one thing what he wants and what he gets(like Erving Santana as well)
  17. Reading that fan graphs article about him doesn't excite me that much, a worse version of yoenis but he's young I guess?lol
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:43 AM) I was reading something yesterday of Howard 1b of Phillies, and Phillies attempt to trade him. it mention that the Phillies will throw in a huge chuck of change to make it happen. of course they need to supply a prospect with that order. 2 question, is Howard shoulder that bad and would he be a nice pickup for the sox. No more Adam Dunn types please lol , super low average, k's a ton, slow, etc. and as rooftop shots said, no more past their prime types, don't want hunter. I wouldn't mind as maybe a dh but not as a starting OF
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Abreu did address that when they interviewed him when he won ROY. He says they were a crucial part but he said he understands that its a business. True , I forgot. And how he mentioned that maybe he could end up somewhere else too
  20. Sorry if this is dumb/been discussed already, but should we worry about trading alexei and viciedo and the effect it'd have on abreu? Just wondering because the whole Cuban thing and him mentioning when he won Roy how having both has really helped him, etc (with him having the opt out etc)
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) A couple of points: 1) If Martinez signed for 4 years, $68 Million, with the Tigers, it would have cost the Sox more. Didn't he indicate that he really wanted to return to Detroit, if they were close on their offer? 2) The Sox do not need just another left handed bat. They specifically need a MIDDLE OF THE ORDER, left handed bat. Therefore, names like Colby Rasmus do not qualify. Melky Cabrera, perhaps, but I'm not holding my breath. Vmart really liked the idea of playing In Chicago and with abreu but yea would have taken at least 19mil from the sox and I agree, they need a big time bat to go behind abreu even someone like melky but not Lind or butler etc. but hey maybe Hahn surprises us with a trade. The wait is killing me lol
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) You're assuming we can get him for $8 million a year. I think he might get more. That's just what the market dictates right now. Wasn't Sorias option worth 8mil? If so I can't believe the Tigers picked it up with so many good options available. Maybe they liked that it was a one year gamble or that it was a fluke how awful he was for them, who's knows.
