White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) Wait, what does that mean in terms of Podsednik? I could see either Rios or Beckham leading off on days Pods isn't playing, but I'd expect Rios, Pods, Thome, Dye and Quentin all rotating giving each some rest and plenty of playing time.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) does this mean Pods is out or something? Rios OBP isn't stellar this year. If it's something they want to work on with him in ST (I believe he's only 28) for next year cool, but this year? I wouldn't believe anything Cowley writes, or at least I'd take it with a huge grain of salt.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
I'm very happy to hear the Sox got Rios. I just hope some of the stuff I've read about him not hustling and being afraid of walls is exaggerated or not true. I always liked him but I've only seen him when he played against the Sox. Anyway, we finally have a major league centerfielder for the first time since 2005.

Guillen threatens to start beanball war
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Are you Jay Hineybird? Jay's back. Sounds like a personal attack to me.

Guillen threatens to start beanball war
Ozzie needs to keep his mouth shut and just do what he has to do. Now that he's run his mouth, the next time a Sox pitcher hits a batter there will be warnings and suspensions.

How many more starts does Jose get?
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) I say 1 but am hoping 0. Get this guy out of here. Edit: This was supposed to be a f***ing poll. Barring injury, Jose stays in the rotation for the rest of the season. Who else is there? Torres? Whisler? Give me a break. Carrasco wouldn't be bad but he's proven to be too valuable in the role he's in. Anyway, when Peavy is ready, Jose will be the number five starter. That's a better number five than most teams have. He's still has some good games left in him.

The Sox should settle the matter Prince Fielder style.

Is Dye being traded for Rios???
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) He really is atrocious. It's not really about dropping the ball as it is being probably the slowest OF in the game so he doesn't get to many balls and when it comes time to throw he often f***s that up with s*** positioning and mechanics. His bat is pretty studly though. I agree he is pretty bad in RF. I always call him "Ol' Cement Shoes" when I'm watching a game with my daughters and he's trying to chase down a ball slicing toward the line. And you're right about his throwing mechanics. It's painful watching him play RF day in day out without too many off days. However, he's not "atrocious" out there in the same way guys like Adam Dunn or Josh Fields when he "played" LF are. Dye at least is pretty solid catching balls he gets to (last night was an anomoly) and every now and then he does come up with a nice play. But I agree that if he's back with the Sox next year I want it to be as a DH and definitely not as the starting RFer. And yes, his bat has been rather studly during his White Sox tenure.

Did Hawk call Williams "Widger" after that strikeout?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) I missed the first few innings and the discussion on here....why is Wise playing instead of Kotsay? Because Ozzie makes the f***in' lineups!

I don't want to see Torres start another game for the Sox this year.

I hope Masterson hits Wise and Wise charges the mound and beats him silly.

Peavy's return timetable
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Stone said yesterday that he was supposed to throw again today. Looking forward to hearing how that goes. I wonder how many rehab starts he will need Jake Peavy to start Thursday at Charlotte By Mark Gonzales After throwing a bullpen session without any discomfort Saturday, Jake Peavy said he will make his first minor league rehabilitation start Thursday night at Triple-A Charlotte. Pitching coach Don Cooper and general manager Ken Williams said Peavy will need a minimum of three rehab starts, which would make his first major league start with the Sox on Aug. 28 at New York. But Peavy's first start could be moved up to Aug. 23 against Baltimore or pushed back to Sept. 3 against the Cubs, depending on how he feels. Peavy said he conducted fielding drills as well as throwing 52 pitches to test his right ankle. Both ankles were taped. Peavy said a tentative schedule was mapped out but that each start would be set after each outing. Peavy warned that because he hasn't pitched in nearly two months that his body feels like he's in late February of spring training.

QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) We will get a win today. Book it Can't win if you can't catch the ball. Sox need to tighten up that defense if they expect to win more games than they lose.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
Anyone who watched tonight's game and saw Q and Pods in the outfield (and has been watching Dye play RF) knows why the Sox should try to land Rios for CF.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Where would Rios play? RF = Quentin, CF = Pods, RF = Dye It's not the Whitesox. Rios would fit in nicely. For the rest of this season Ozzie could work Rios in by DHing Quentin on some days and have Pods LF, Rios CF, and Dye RF. Other days he can rest Pods and have an OF of Quentin, Rios and Dye. Still other days he can sit Dye or DH him and have Q in LF, Pods in CF and Rios in RF. Still other days Rios can sit on the bench in place of Wise and come in as a defensive replacement when Buerhle has another perfect game going.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) How about Wise for Rios. Now I'd stand up and applaud that. Wise would have to clear waivers first, and Ozzie would be too worried that someone else would claim him.

According to Cowley, Beckham is staying in the two hole when Ramirez returns.
