Eloy rehab starts again 6/21
No, but I knew Eloy and Yoan weren't going to live up to the hype and were not the type of players to build around.

Well if he's injured why the hell hasn't he been on the IL? If he's injured there is no place for him on this roster.

Not the same thing. I suggested trading Yoan and Eloy a year ago. Eloy and Yoan will never be part of a championship team like Bryant and Baez were. If the Sox are still counting on Yoan and Eloy to be at the center of their so-called "championship core" then their core is hollow and their rebuild is a failure.

I wish they would have traded him and Moncada when they had a chance.

Moncada's defense is definitely not as good as Harrison but probably just as good as Leury's at 2B. And if not, there's no place for him - send him to Charlotte.

If you leave Burger at 3B where his defense hasn't been bad, let Vaughn and Abreu alternate at 1B/DH, and keep real outfielders Pollock and Engel in the OF corners, you have a decent defensive team and the best offensive lineup you can play at this moment.

If Moncada sucks that bad on defense at 2B then there's really no room for him on this roster because he sure shouldn't be starting at 3B ahead of Burger right now. Let him play 2B until if/when he gets his hitting back on track. Then if Burger begins to falter you can always move Moncada back to 3B. If his defense is so bad at 2B that he's costing games send him down to get his act together at Charlotte.

Harry & Jimmy used to do it back in the day. In fact, Jimmy got fired from his post game show gig for criticizing LaRussa after a loss. LaRussa sucked when he was managing the Sox in the '80s and he's even worse now.

Still waiting for them to "flip the switch" LOL!

He wants to rest so he's fresh for the playoffs.

I wonder if moving Moncada to 2B would maybe wake him up or something? Maybe standing behind the pitcher will give him a different perspective or something? I don't know, but there's no way he should be starting over Burger at 3B anymore.

There's something seriously wrong with this organization (actually a lot of things). Rather than being able to develop players, it seems like players in this organization often regress.

GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
let's keep playing first basemen in the OF. What can go wrong?

But he's been getting comfortable lately!

Good job by AJ. I wouldn't blame him if he swung at that after those two bad calls.

This ump is drunk.

GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
It's funny we can't play Moncada who came up as a 2B at 2B to make room for Burger, but it's no big deal making Vaughn play OF.
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
And yet people will moan about Vaughn not getting to balls that should be caught.
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
So play him there so we can find out and so he can improve his play there if need be. How is he going to improve his defense at 1B by playing corner OF where he has no future anyway?
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
Well, same goes for Abreu. Let him DH for a while. Put Vaughn where he belongs. Play Pollock and Engel in the outfield corners. Improves the defense at all three positions.
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
He's not going to improve by not playing there either. They should quit screwing with one of their top prospects and let him settle in where he belongs already.
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
I would have had Burger at 3B, Moncada at 2B, Vaughn at 1B and Abreu at DH. Vaughn needs to start playing a lot of 1B for his development. He is the Sox future first baseman and his development is being stunted by playing him out of position in the OF or sitting him to get some weak LH bat in the lineup. He's got to get ABs against RH pitching and play 1B as much as possible.
-
GT 6-4: Dodgers @ Sox (7:10pm)
Let him get his ABs while playing 2B. Allows Burger to be in the lineup at his natural position everyday and gets Leury and Josh out of the every day lineup. Kills two birds with one stone.

Jermaine Dye comes to mind, but he was getting old, not in his prime like Moncada is supposed to be.
-

But you're improving OF defense by allowing Vaughn and Abreu to play 1B/DH and playing Pollock and Engel in the corners. Overall I would say the team is better off with Pollock LF, Engel RF, Burger 3b and Moncada 2B over Vaughn LF, Sheets RF, Moncada 3B and Leury/Josh 2B. And if Moncada is such a big dropoff defensively at 2B and doesn't get his hitting turned around, just put Leury/Josh/Mendick back at 2B and let Moncada be the utility guy. His bat this year hasn't earned him a permanent starting position anymore.
