I think this would only happen if a floor was in place as well. Teams in other sports may spend to the cap but I'm not sure that other sports have the disparity in revenue that baseball has. you're right that it's more owrk than it's worth but the MLBPA has kept the oweners for getting what they want more than the other sports.

I would've thought the opposite. If there is a catch and a fumble out of bounds the receiving team gets the ball at the spot of the fumble because there is no recovery. This seems si liar to that more than an incomplete pass.

This is the true problem with free agency. Agents can say anything they want because its negotiations and the teams can't officially state the terms because its collusion. The agents have all the power.

Listening to MLB radio in the car earlier and their speculation was that with the new Nats offer of well over 300 million, Harper was going to have a hard time choosing between LA and the Nats. They also said that Machado seemed to be deciding between his desire to play for NY and the Phillies money. At the very end they said the White Sox are still talking to both.
